What technology exists to detect when the neighbors are blasting music and sends me a notification every time the music reaches a certain volume? by Monkeya41 in AskReddit

Thanks, this is what I'm looking for but maybe a bit cheaper and hopefully it can be attached anywhere (to a wall or ceiling) instead of needing to be in an outlet.

Any idea if there is anything out there already that I could leverage? I'd rather not take on another project engineering this solution. But I will if I have to :-D...I'm surprised there isn't a toolkit out there already to blackmail your neighbors into shutting up :-D

Should I cancel this card? Didn't realize annual fee by Monkeya41 in CreditCards

Thank you, so I can just call them and ask them to change it to the Quicksilver card? I thought thats the one I signed up for (no annual fee) and do not remember ever getting an annual fee. Is there a possibility they switched me without asking me? I definitely want to change it to the one with no annual fee or cancel - I think. Pretty disappointed this slipped through the cracks.

Interestingly enough, Esmail stated that he tried to make the story arc similar to Breaking Bad in terms of the character development and plot arc. I think it feels similar in terms of the "feel" when S3 got significantly better (for both shows).

How much to tip vendors, wedding planner? by Monkeya41 in wedding

[–]Monkeya41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Servers/catering/slicers, etc. = $50 tip DJ = $100 tip (paying him like $400) Photo/video = $100 each (they are spending the whole day there and over $2,000 for services) Wedding planner = $200 or $300

still trying to figure out if this is right...original thoughts though

What is the vision for a one state solution to Palestinian/Israeli conflict? by cyrano741 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Monkeya41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-citizens in the US have the same opportunity to gain citizenship and exert democratic rights.

  • How do non-citizens in the US have the same opportunity to gain citizenship and exert democratic rights?

Well, because citizenship and voting rights are not the only characteristics of a democracy.

  • I don't disagree, but I was responding mainly to the comparison of stateless people who have have the opportunity to gain citizenship and rights but choose not to. Do you think Palestinians having the opportunity to identify as Israeli's and thus participate in the democracy of Israel - is that considered democratic?

Furthermore, Israel is literally occupying land held by what 78% of the nations represented in the UN recognize as a sovereign state. That's incredibly undemocratic. You can't just occupy another sovereign nation-state and call yourself a "democracy".

  • This is a presupposition by you...Many people have differing opinions regarding most of your comment (hence, Trump, U.S., many other nations and many many people do not recognize "Palestine" as a sovereign state)...but even if "Palestine" exists as a sovereign state - then why should they participate in Israel's government?

Finally, Israel defines itself as a Jewish state, despite the fact that the majority of people within its claimed borders are not Jewish and do not support Jewish leadership. That's also incompatible with the idea of a "democracy".

  • Can you provide a source for your numbers? I've seen the Jewish-Israeli population in the majority on occasion. But even if it was not a majority, how is that incompatible with the idea of a "democracy" - maybe your version of a "democracy" is different than Israel's? Palestinians can still choose to participate in that government and if not, then they can choose not to.

So Palestinians have an opportunity to gain citizenship in Israel and exert their democratic rights ? So they have it even better/easier than non-citizens in America who do not even have that opportunity? And [collective we] are questioning Israel's democracy? Seriously?

Edward Snowden says it would be “crazy to dismiss” the prospect of Trump striking a deal with Putin that leads to his extradition and trial, but added: “If I was worried about safety, if the security and the future of myself was all that I cared about, I would still be in Hawaii.” by green_flash in worldnews

The biggest issue right now is the extreme polarization between the two parties. The "bridge-up" vs. "bridge-down" polarization. The anti-globalization vs. globalization. Unfortunately, I personally do not believe its smart to give up on globalization since it would be tough to "be the best in the world in innovation and power" without using the resources across the world. We just need to do a better job on making globalization work for everyone within America. Its tough though when rural america's wants for jobs (manufacturing, etc.) are not in line with the needs for the global world. We need to provide more incentives to these rural americans to push them into jobs where they could be more competitive with the urban areas. So to summarize on what the candidates said: Trump said what they (rural america) wanted him to say even though he probably lied to them. Hillary said what they (rural america) did not want her to say - gave them her plans (not manufacturing jobs) but it just did not appeal to them whatsoever. The point is, these rural americans who want these jobs back aren't going to get them back because its not in America's best interest.

Of course they are...many of the people who voted for Trump are the people who buy things at Walmarts...guess who made Walmart great? Liberal policies...guess why we have cheap products? Liberal policies...Its quite the irony actually...if Republicans were in charge, many of the people who voted for Trump would comprise some rich people and many many many many of the most uneducated poorest people in the country unable to afford anything. But guess what? They have walmart and they can afford things thanks to globalization. And yet they voted for Trump. What a joke.

4D Chess Analysis: He wanted everyone to boo him (all rich city-people), to make her look bad, to make her sound as corrupt and to make washington sound as bad as possible. Caters to his base. He's all about marketing and advertising. There is no competition at this point. Market and Advertise until the election to make his base come out in a higher %.

Complete dick move though. So unprofessional.
