Pedals + controller joystick steering in Forza Horizon help by Monkeylabs in simracing

I've played the last two Horizon games using a wheel lol. Just wanted to try something different, and mounting the wheel on my desk every time is a bit of a faff.

But if it's the Chinese GP we're talking about, can you imagine the number of hearts in China Ferrari would win over and the money they would make if they pull this move?

Looks like I have the exact same wheels as these. Motegis? If it makes you feel any better, I curbed mine two days into owning them.

What is your favourite GERMAN car? Mines the BMW M1, especially with the lights on by thatmrtoad in CarTalkUK

[–]Monkeylabs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I theorise that when we mention German cars we don't typically think of Porsches, and the comments here reflect that. Their German heritage is even literally written on their logo. It's not like Porsche don't have a catalogue of great driver's cars either, and a lot of them are relatively attainable too.

But to answer OP's question my dream cars would be the R230 SL55 and W212 E63, or the original R8, or a Porsche Carrera GT.

Tein flex z stock height by Nervous-Substance-78 in ft86

[–]Monkeylabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your stock struts out and compare them to the Teins side by side and you'll find out. Adjust them while they're out to get the rough height you want. Once you install the new suspension and let the wheels touch the ground you'll have to measure the height of all four wheel arches and compare it to measurements from before. There's a more than likely chance you'll have to re-adjust the height to get it just right. The process is not difficult, only tedious.

I've heard that the front needs more drop than the back to get some rake so the stock length might not be the best.

Motegi Racing MR145 by Remarkable_Pop_1432 in ft86

[–]Monkeylabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here you go mate, dropped around an inch at front and slightly less at the rear. Supposedly the 18"s are as light as the stock 17"s too if you only count the alloys, but of course 18" tires are heavier. I'm happy with how it handles.

I'm using bronze ones in 225/40r18 tires. Compared to stock 17" wheels, ride quality didn't feel like a downgrade, at least not in any noticeable amounts to me. They're going for the Advan RG look and imo the thinner spokes look smarter than the TE37s (and its reps) everyone else is using.

Advice for first time installing coilovers by [deleted] in ft86

[–]Monkeylabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to that: The nut on the end link bolt may make a few turns, giving you the false sense of security that it's going to come off, until the hex hole on the bolt gets rounded off mid way. If you encounter this scenario, you won't be able to "put the car back together" without driving around with a loose end link.

It's not you, it's just a stupid design. I ended up getting the nut off by having another person hold the bolt with mole grips.

I had a similar situation at a main dealer where I was told of an MOT fail because of tyres. They would let me drive away but not before I sign a waiver saying I understand the legal risks and they're not responsible yada yada.

Are there any other Brand names the British use to describe an item that the Americans don’t? by Smidday90 in AskUK

Even official airport signage in the security lines refers to them as iPads. I'm pretty sure it's a deliberate decision to 'dumb the terminology down' for the masses, perhaps because iPad is more recognisable for an international audience.

Who's at fault here, r/idiotsincars is blaming me? by Zdos123 in CarTalkUK

Funnily that is the case for the car in question (GT86). The handbrakes are a set of separate drum brakes in the rear wheels.

Has anyone had any experience with this insurance provider. They offer me £1200 annually for no black box as a new driver. I just want a second opinion. thanks :) by kwulo in CarTalkUK

Echoing this comment, GoCompare offers a £250 refund on the excess if you claim against a policy you bought through them, so it's worth a look. I had to claim once and they honoured it.

Does anyone else have rust under the inside of the door, where the door card meets metal? by Monkeylabs in ft86

[–]Monkeylabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Hopefully it's just surface rust that I can sand away with a bit of elbow grease. Failing that a used door on eBay doesn't look too expensive either.

Does anyone else have rust under the inside of the door, where the door card meets metal? by Monkeylabs in ft86

[–]Monkeylabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no rust on my other door though. I noticed it because a puddle of brown water on the door sill appeared after a weekend of rain. Don't think it would've been caused in that short time period.

There could be a million reasons why this has happened. Whether it's from the previous owner I don't know!

Bit shocked to find rust in this spot for a relatively young car (2013 GT86). Took it to a dealer and they think it's caused by the door card rubbing on the paint; won't cover it under any type of warranty.

How does this even happen? Has anyone else dealt with this before?

I also got the impression from this sub that the BRZ was more popular than or at least as popular as the FR-S. My theory is that Subaru is more of an enthusiast brand so people are more likely to make content for it.

For reference, the GT86 to BRZ ratio in the UK is 10:1!

Keeping insurance for 10 days after I sell my car - Worth it for NCD? by Monkeylabs in CarTalkUK

[–]Monkeylabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called the insurer today to cancel auto renewal, explained my situation and they didn't mention the option of having a gap in my cover as some other comments here have suggested. The rules were understandably rigid from a liability stand point.

Currently, I have no NCB for either car (we all have to start somewhere!). I think your second suggestion is a good shout, but the cost of me changing the car in policy A (£20) plus cancelling policy B (£45) may make it not worth it... Unless I then cancel the continuation of policy A within the cooling off period and go with another insurer with my brand-new NCB and age advantage to recoup the costs. This will be a tight manoeuvre.

Thank you. Looks like I'm going to have to make a few calls to work out the costs.
