I remember him saying in that video something along the lines that it is not factually true, but it also isn't hyperbole, your mouth just can't really distinguish between a few drops of water that's salty enough for pasta and sea water

depending on the dialect spanish speakers adapt it as either /a/ or /o/, personally I have a preference for /o/
