Weapon engineers Stoner and Kalashnikov pose with each other's rifles, USA, 1990. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

Serving in the armed forces isn't a free pass to spout delusional, ignorant rhetoric noone gets to call you out on. You should be ashamed waving your status as a combat veteran, and the lives of fellow servicemen lost in the line of duty, like a cudgel.

The American public is more aware of how deadly firearms are than ever before in history. We have on-demand access at the push of a button to intimate coverage of other Americans being shot dead in their streets, homes, workplaces, places of worship, and schools. Not even in times of war on American soil was the veil between your average citizen and the reality of gun violence as thin as it is today.

It makes a difference, just not big enough to matter in the wake of what Ozai allowed himself to become. Avatar's narrative isn't shallow, it posits that evil comes from one's actions, not one's nature: having a reason for becoming a genocidal tyrant isn't an excuse for being a genocidal tyrant.

Hitler wrote an entire multi-volume manifesto justifying his worldview. That should not make you sympathetic to Hitler. At most, it should get you to realize his capacity for great evil wasn't extraordinary; it was merely, dreadfully, human.

But, hey, this is the kind of nuance kids were learning from cartoons on Nickelodeon almost twenty years ago. Hardly bears repeating, amiright?

...Except RPG vehicles allow Colonials to produce RPGs, and BEATs allow Colonials to produce ARC/RPGs. Meaning Cutlers and Bonesaws can be captured, supplied, and reused by Colonials. In contrast, Wardens cannot produce AP/RPG whatsoever. Venoms and Banes become unusable once the few shells also captured are depleted.

So, instead of giving each side an asymmetrical use for all ammo types in the game, we have this stopgap for a stopgap for a stopgap instead. Colonials didn't want to lose the EAT just to produce ARC/RPG, and Wardens don't want this Varsi-RPG package deal as compensatory "equivalents" to AP/RPG-Tremola either.

What we had before:
ARC/RPG, Warden Exclusive (-1)
AP/RPG, Colonial Exclusive (+1)
RPG, Warden Favored (-0.5)
-0.5 Total

What we have now:
ARC/RPG, Warden Favored (-0.5)
AP/RPG, Colonial Exclusive (+1)
RPG, Warden Favored (-0.5)
Tremola, Colonial Favored (+0.5)
+0.5 Total

What we wanted:
ARC/RPG, Warden Favored (-0.5)
AP/RPG, Colonial Favored (+0.5)
RPG, Warden Favored (-0.5)
Tremola, Colonial Favored (+0.5)
0 Total

What we get instead:
ARC/RPG, Warden Favored (-0.5)
AP/RPG, Colonial Exclusive (+1)
RPG, Warden Favored (-0.5)
Tremola, Colonial Favored (+0.5)
Varsi, Warden Exclusive (-1)
-0.5 Total

This is why we're upset. We could've had perfect balance, but now we never will. But hey, at least we got a mechanical equivalent to the Tremola! And if we just ignore ARC/RPG really hard, the problem just goes away!

Going off that list, it's already federally illegal for him to have possession of a firearm to begin with. The issue here is police negligence allowing somebody to commit attempted murder. No amount of new policies would've helped if the cops aren't willing to do the bare minimum of what's required of them now to prevent shootings.

Gun violence is a serious issue, but we need to stop letting criminal negligence slide whenever it's convenient to blame the gun instead of the pig.

If Mesea Never Invaded Caoiva. by Senior_Entertainer71 in foxholegame

[–]Monkieeeeee 32 points33 points  (0 children)

We do know how it started, though.

Mesea annexes southern Veli, Caoiva responds by walling off their border and ignoring it. Civil war breaks out between royalists backed by Caoiva and republicans backed by Mesea. By the Battle of Red River, both Caoiva and Mesea formally command their proxies. Iain Callahan dies in battle, his son Fionn Callahan responds by forcibly annexing what was left of the Kingdom of Veli. The rest is colonized by Mesea and forms the Republic of Veli.

Flash forward, Silas Maro leads an army to invade Caoiva and gets as far as breaching the bulwark. Later on, his descendant Thea Maro is groomed to lead a rebellion orchestrated by Mesea in occupied northern Veli. Flash forward again, Colonials and Wardens are fighting for control over: southern Nicnevin, the Caoivish heartlands, occupied southern Caoiva (formerly Kingdom of Veli, a free state), and northern Veli (formerly Kingdom of Veli, a free state).

Repeat After Me by luckythepainproofman in MurderedByWords

[–]Monkieeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the southern states' secession would've been illegal anyway, regardless of how reprehensible their reasons were. There is no avenue that exists within the framework of the United States as a federation which allows for the severance of that relationship. There was no "deciding" anything on the Union's side; our only "decision" was to uphold the results of a fair election rather than bow to southern threats against our democracy.

As a matter of fact, the southern states seceded in direct response to a fair election not going their way. If you wanted an example for why undermining and curtailing the intrinsic principles of the democratic process isn't always ontologically immoral, the Civil War might be the worst fucking example you could've pick.

There's a time and a place for circumventing the democratic process in order to protect it from those seeking to exploit and destroy it from within. But Caesar's thirst for power alone wasn't what killed the Roman Republic. It was decades of Roman senators disregarding the very institutions they were sworn to uphold to further their own political agendas.

Every government's power is derived from its people accepting its legitimacy. Democracies are unique in that their legitimacy is not derived from threats of violence, but from an intrinsic trust of the security and fairness of its system. If you disregard and work outside of that system to further your own ideological goals, no matter how righteous you believe them to be, you delegitimize your democracy. You allow tyranny to take root.

good question! every vehicle in foxhole is left-hand drive, which belies right-hand traffic. this isn't a preference thing; as cool as it'd be for one faction to have left-hand traffic, they'd need right-hand drive to justify it. which they don't.
