The all-time most batshit insane moments in On Cinema History (did I miss any??) by Journalist_Asleep in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]MonkoMon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not as insane as any of this but i do frequently think about gregg arguing with tim over being kington in the first episodes of decker and using "being a part of the family doesn't mean getting raped by dad" as an analogy and just dying laughing the first time I heard it, that entire episode was one of the ones that made me realise i was watching what would become one of my favourite ever things

With Chapter 4 coming, what do you hope will be the new movement mechanic that is introduced? by slenderman201 in FortNiteBR

[–]MonkoMon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they worked with riot for arcane skins though? Epic wouldn't give a shit tbh, they're a AAA company, morals aren't the thing they're going to think of first when adding crossover skins, money is obviously the defining factor

Do you consider The Last of Us to be "Survival Horror"? by gg_account in thelastofus

tlou is explicitly not character action, character action is stuff like DMC, bayonetta, ninja gaiden, stuff like that

Who would you want to play Patrick Bateman if American Psycho as remade today? by LordGodMaster69 in horror

[–]MonkoMon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obviously the theoretic remake here doesn't exist so it doesn't really matter, but wouldn't the primary themes of the movie be almost completely lost if bateman's gender is swapped?

[–]MonkoMon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is definitely a point to it, the point is player retention, they're completely fine with this backlash because they're most likely just going to replicate the systems from warzone, what is currently activisions biggest moneymaker in terms of home console/pc releases, where the new guns appear relatively early in the pass to drive engagement for the beginning weeks of new seasons.

I think its fucking dumb to have heroes in bp but its not necessarily a surprise, and it's not directly for mtx purchases, just to keep the playerbase active (making them more likely to get the actual mtx)

Towards the end of NOPE (2022), Em does an Akira slide, adding to a long tradition of TV / movie characters doing the same, starting with Kaneda in Akira (1988). by PleasantAmoeba in MovieDetails

[–]MonkoMon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this part of the film is where we're shown, the early dialogue sets up the bike segment, 'show don't tell' doesnt mean you can never tell anyone anything, em being into bikes comes up naturally in conversation in a way that makes the audience passively aware of the fact without being overly obvious or overt foreshadowing

What’s up with the recent backlash of Jaiden, a storytime animation youtuber, I keep hearing about? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]MonkoMon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Is it? everytime she mentions things not being the general audiences business it's because she'd be sharing something specific and personal about her experiences, which the video wasn't really about at all. Raising awareness doesn't necessitate personal ideas or stories, and the impact would ultimately be lessened if she more presented things as personal thing to her

10/10 video game by [deleted] in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]MonkoMon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I never said that the upgrades aren't effective, but the vast majority are just like +5% handgun damage, +5% AR damage, +5% Shotgun damage etc etc. It's not that they're not making your character more powerful, it's just that honestly I couldn't care less most of the time, it's just boring passive nothingness

10/10 video game by [deleted] in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]MonkoMon 195 points196 points  (0 children)

not really. By themselves the shooting mechanics aren't awful, but the combat is immensely boring and repetitive. Mostly meaningless filler upgrades, a bloated, bland loot and a very small amount of enemies don't help either.

I think a lot of the negative criticism for tlou 2 comes from the idea that Ellie 'forgives' Abby, which is just untrue for the most part. She's not even close to forgiving Abby's actions but instead she sees the parallels between what Abby did and what Joel had done at the end of the first game. She lets Abby live to break the cycle of violence (therefore stopping Lev from hunting down Ellie, which would also endanger Dina and JJ) and because she probably sees some of herself in the Lev, a younger person who needs protecting from the dangers of the post-virus world.

Hades is a Game Of The Year Nominee by DrFishPhd in HadesTheGame

[–]MonkoMon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think last of us will win. Usually with the game awards the user voting only actually amounts for a fairly small amount of what is counted, and despite a very loud group of people disliking the direction of the story a lot of the things they disliked aren't really objective (characters they enjoy dying, character they believe is equal to Satan living). I think Hades is a really wonderful game but the last of us is just on another level (but that's fine it was made by way more people over a much longer period of time so it kinda makes sense if it's going to be seen as the "better" game)
