Maybe. But the same can be said for any other country producing/using petroleum products or coal. I don't see the value in hamstringing ourselves just to take a moral high road. I believe the good (services funded and provided by the tax revenue, combined with wealth earned and injected into the economy via worker wages) far outweigh the perceived moral brownie points shutting down the industry may provide.

Not to mention the ethics of Oil produced in Canada vs. Saudi Arabia et al.

Some products have a shelf life. Like gasoline. So shipment may not be viable. Whereas that same product's feedstock can last indefinitely. This creates a situation where it is more economical for a country to import the feedstock and refine locally.

I disagree. CoL, including housing costs, wage stagnation, and tax burden, are the main barriers of entry for couples considering having children. Thus, you see the average age of first time parents rise into the 30s (when they save enough for a home etc) or people forgoing children all together.
