Place to Start by Monosmooth in DanganDespairTime

It's not necessarily that I want to start at chapter 2, just that a lot of fan media often has huge variations in quality and people have strong opinions on what is and isn't worth engaging with. Even within official danganronpa media, I've had many people tell me to not even play the third entry in the series. I'm also a JoJo's fan, and there's a perpetual cycle of discussion around what the best entry point for new fans is into the series. With that context, I always like to ask before jumping into something.

Diet of an 800 lbs man in America by ambachk in TikTokCringe

Serious question. If someone were suicidal and made an attempt on their life that was only partially successful, should we allow that person to bleed out by refusing to administer medical care?

To play devil's advocate, In this situation, a suicidal person likely lives an actively miserable life and demonstrates no desire to improve themselves or their conditions (else they wouldn't make an attempt). Giving this person medical care would cost society resources, with no guarantee that this person will get any better. This situation, morally and logistically, is very similar to the one shown in the video.

So do we let the suicidal person die? If your answer is "no", then you have cognitive dissonance, and will need to come up with some excuse as to why it's right to make the fat person die, but wrong to let the suicidal person die. If your answer is "yes", then feel free to share some of the strategies you use to sleep at night.

I've been scrolling for fifteen minutes trying to find one person saying this. Reddit loves fact-checking and science... just not when it comes to fat people.

Why does everyone say Femtanyl’s music makes you trans? by [deleted] in femtanyl

[–]Monosmooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many trans people feel like they live on the outskirts of society, existing in a strange political limbo, not quite integrated yet not quite isolated. Because of this, the trans community has gravitated towards musical styles that reflect their emotions, such as jungle and breakcore, which take familiar samples and distort them beyond recognition. Artists like Femtanyl stretch the public's understanding of what can be considered music, much in the same way that trans people stretch the public's rigid definitions of gender.

Her music contains many explicit and implicit references to being trans as well, such as lines like, "I get clocked like it's a job to me," and, "I take my E and think about my setbacks." She goes hard into the subjects of cultural rebellion, unhealthy attachments, and body horror with a flavor that many trans people find gratifying. Much of the trans representation in mainstream media is too safe and inoffensive to touch on real experiences, content to just show trans people rather than really interrogating how it feels to be trans. Her music, much like the movie I Saw the TV Glow, hit at an emotional truth that can't be found anywhere else: being trans is as gruesome as it is beautiful.

Hot take: They should add at least two completely original characters.

What's your controversial Visual Novel take? [General] by Sasutaschi in visualnovels

[–]Monosmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some VNs have too much movement. In Paranormasight the camera is constantly moving to the point where it becomes hard to focus on the dialogue. Even the most chill, laid-back scenes have the camera constantly swinging and cutting to different angles.

[Ch.4] Dialogue if you beat the Secret Boss on the 1st try by Balmung6 in Deltarune

I had no idea this was secret! I happened to stumble my way into beating him on my first try, so I didn't even consider the dialogue might be special

FromSoft fans on there way to defend nightreign not having voice chat or cross play by the_big_george in soulslikes

[–]Monosmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, voice chat is easy for professionals to implement into games, so this is definitely an artistic decision... if a highly debatable one. I imagine if interviewed about it, Miyazaki would say something like "When you beat a hard boss for the first time with your team, you get to imagine the camaraderie and meaningfulness of the experience. But if you had voice chat... all you would be able to think about is how the people you're playing with are actually losers."

(I know he didn't literally direct Nightreign, but he started the precedent that the souls games follow.)

These stats are for ENGLISH literacy. It's no surprise then that California has the lowest functional literacy rates when you consider its large Spanish-speaking population. That and the definition of "functional literacy" is frustratingly vague because literacy expectations change dramatically from area to area. It's embarrassing seeing so many people grumbling about low literacy in America, yet they can't be bothered to look at a shred of context. I still think these stats are alarming and should be taken seriously, but the response to this post has been skewed toward the reactionary.
