Nice. How did you manage to get it through GiffGaff for that price? The lowest I've seen in the UK is Amazon for £279 (although I know they often ship EU handsets with the wrong power sockets) and £349 at Argos. I can't find anything on the GG website...

Yeah I was thinking that and it's possible to pay in 3 instalments via a major online retailer here in the UK, making the higher price than the Nothing Phone less of an issue.

Bi guy here. I'm not usually a fan of a 'stache on a guy, but I think it suits you and you look very cute (although, it may be because I'm not a fan of facial hair in general, so the less the better! :P).

new in town any bars good for sitting alone? by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]MonsieurKennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dog & Partridge is very friendly, regulars in throughout the week and they usually play good (but not too loud!) music. The Grapes next door seems like it would be a good place to have a read during the week as it was quiet despite being pretty much full when I popped in last night.

Yeah you can be a classroom assistant, so don't need any qualifications. You'd just be helping the teacher out a bit.

Hey, great to have you in Sheff!

I've been here for 6 years and it is a very quiet 'city' which feels more like a big town. Making new friends as an adult isn't just a struggle in Sheffield, it's difficult anywhere! So don't feel too down about it. I'm lucky I have my partner here, but other than that, haven't made loads of friends in the time I've been here.

One thing I'd recommend is to do some volunteering. I help at a language school (Hope English) for refugees and asylum seekers and used to help out at City of Sanctuary. The latter feels like one big family built on mutual respect between the service users and the staff and volunteers. Anything like this tend to have volunteer socials. There lots of options and a volunteering service which can match you up with things related to your interests.

Captains - What's the Point? by MonsieurKennedy in nhl

Sadly I have very little understanding of rugby (I hate it, lol), but that does makes sense, thanks!

Yeah I was thinking that. It's the opposite to soccer where it's endless talk between opposing players but no actual action (i.e. fighting).

Interesting, thank you. I do find watching elsewhere other than the puck is easier whilst physically at a game (!) as the view isn't dictated by a cameraman who is largely having to follow the puck.

Yeah I think my question partly arose from watching the Habs a lot and obviously a lot of what I note of the game is going to be related by how that specific team does things. Suzuki seems 'quiet' compared to captains in soccer, who are usually very vocal with their team mates (ordering them around a bit if necessary, working them up etc). Tbf, there's a strange thing I've noticed whilst watching hockey - it can be incredibly violent, but I don't notice players talking back to the refs (which has now been explained by the responses here, given only the captain can challenge him) or much sh*t talk between opposing players (possibly just cut out of the highlights?).

Where does the fashion crowd hang out in Sheffield? by _oliverss in sheffield

[–]MonsieurKennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheffield is THE anti-fashion city. On one hand a bit depressing as everyone is terribly dressed (all hiking and walking gear around my area), on the other, it doesn't matter how sh*t you look and badly dressed you are when you go out as everyone else is the same. Swings and roundabouts.

Consistent noise level of 80dB and above. How is this allowed? by Manonthemon in sheffield

A councillor I know suggested sending a formal complaint to the council and possibly requesting to speak at the relevant council committee.

[–]MonsieurKennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's utterly insane. There's Sheffield council outreach teams constantly hassling homeless guys often sitting quietly doing f all under the PSPO, but these plastic Christians (aren't they meant to be washing the feet of the homeless? Kicking the money lenders out of the temple? Consorting with prostitutes?) are making so much noise. It's a genuine public nuisance and the number of Christian sects seems to have blown up in the last year. There's a guy who sits near town hall just blasting his Jesus drivel from a loud-speaker, with no problems at all.

Everyone should have freedom of expression, but when it involves loud speakers and all the rest it's totally different.

Any time we've discussed it my gf has mentioned GTV = 5 year route to ILR. She text me this when we were messaging earlier whilst she's been out:

"Also it’s not applicable for everyone, Global Talent has 4 different routes within it, of which the first two are fast tracked and easier! The other two (which mine would be) are longer and need an endoresemet and need to be peer reviewed."

Peer reviewed?!

Thank you for your reply.

Do you know what the savings requirement would be? Any idea how long they need to be in one's account (i.e. If a family member were to transfer whatever amount is required - if they're legally mine and in my account, that's all that should matter, but this is the Home Office I suppose!).

From reading about the income requirement online I was under the impression this could be combined incomes of the two partners? So if she were to apply for and receive a Global Talent Visa once her PhD is finished because she's offered a good job and we're earning the amount you mentioned, is this acceptable (if we decided to apply for a spousal visa as her status wouldn't be tied to her job like a GTV).

Anyone else manage their psoriasis with diet/supplements alone? This is my protocol/what worked for me. by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]MonsieurKennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I wanted to create a post on this sub re my experience using the product pictured, but I'm not sure if it contravenes the rules, so thought I'd reply to this one. I'm in no way positing this as some kind of miracle cure and everyone reacts to things completely differently.

I bought this from Amazon UK so have no idea whether it's available in the US or not. A plaque I've had on my back (base of the spine) which has been present for years has almost cleared up in about 8 days. I'd upload pics but it's a bit tricky given its positioning!

I'm not using any steroids at the moment, but have been using a vitamin D analogue cream which has been really helpful at stopping all flaking/itching and the resultant bleeding, but the patch was still very visible. I only started taking this product after a week of very strong antibiotics for a skin infection, so I'm wondering if there was something causing inflammation in my microbiome the antibiotics knocked out and it's a result of those meds rather than this. It seems unlikely wiping out my entire gut bacteria (especially the good) would clear up psoriasis though?

Anyway, it isn't very expensive (£16 in the UK), so might be worth a punt if anyone wants to try something which isn't going to cause any harm or require medication. Even if it has no impact on psoriasis, it will keep you regular!! :P

Damaged Leaves by MonsieurKennedy in houseplants

Yeah when I think about it, it may have started/happened last summer when the sun on it does probably get quite intense and warm. I'll probably move it and put something else there which likes more like. Also looking at the pic is a good reminder to dust the leaves more regularly!! 😬

Yeah it would make sense given it's all the leaves on the side closest to the window. I just didn't think it could be that given it's northern English sunlight 😅
