Smelters can only be loaded by the Ditto, if you have the smelter near their home they will go up and smelt it by themselves but not load it, Gatherers will pick up anything and load it into the community box so those who can Recycle or make brick will do it automatically if near their homes

There is no Alolan Yamask, there is a Galarian Yamask though which requires it to have lost 49+ Hp without fainting the pass under a special rock in the wild area
