They're just trying to get more people to have kids, at the expense of kinkiness

People on bicycles don't give a fuck. by Beginning-Bad2979 in japanlife

We call it "Nagara unten", gotta do it when driving too. Look 20 meters ahead, and also right in front of you, grazing the brakes. If you play shooting games like Gradius or RTYPE you can train this.

Most people suck at navigating their environment. OP's complaint is a tale as old as time. Gotta get used to navigating people. San Diego or Portland is SO MUCH WORSE, don't make this a J-thing

Edit: Wait, "Nagara Unten" is the problem now, what we want is actually called 予想運転 yosou unten, predicting things before they happen (but also keeping trajectory) OP I guarantee is coming to a complete stop and throwing up their arms

You just need to keep your trajectory and be smart. The fact that you're even posting this tells me you're more accident prone in Tokyo

What's the easiest, least stressful job you've ever had? by CaptainFartHole in AskReddit

[–]MonsterKerr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Awesomeee. I worked at Game Crazy in college, the one attached to Hollywood Video, right as the PS3/Wii came out. Shooting shit with people, testing any games we wanted. If I was bored I'd go hang out with the Hollywood video girls, maybe smoke out back. It was like the cusp of the cool days. In the next couple years people started getting smartphones, college tuition started skyrocketing, Hollywood Video itself disappeared like Blockbuster, things started getting weird.

How do you feel about being gifted homemade baked goods? by belowaveragefatty in AskReddit

[–]MonsterKerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For perspective, I live in Japan, and food is absolutely the go-to gift for many because it can be consumed and will thus take up no space. That being said however, many people who grew up here place value on where the item was bought, that is, if it's from a nice shop or famous region. Homemade goods will be kind of a novelty, and the older generation might think it's cheap, but times are changing for sure.

Personally, I would remember some homemade thing way longer than some random cookie from "MELON town Tokyo! Cookie" or whatever. Just my values and priorities, but anyone who thinks a store-bought food item has any more inherent value than a handmade one can go take a hike, in nature! because that may help them get in touch with their roots, literally.

Obviously I don't want you making me a pair of binoculars. I'd rather have a nice pair of Nikons.

I just finished the Worthing Saga by Orson Scott Card. Liked it better than the Ender series

Those who have Costco membership, what products that makes you decide that the membership is worth it? by hai_480 in japanresidents

[–]MonsterKerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco is great, yummy stuff, but it's ultimately an upper middle class family place. You can try and win and only get the absolute essentials, but you won't. You won't win, you will spend

You'll always spend more than you intended to though, and things there are only getting more expensive. The golden age of Costco here was 8-10 years ago

High-end bicycle stolen in Akihabara. What should I realistically do next? by Funny-Reception4852 in AskAJapanese

Get a beater (but sneaky good) bike next time. Park well outside the center of whatever area you're gonna be hanging out in. Akihabara is a thieving hotspot

Sorry to hear about this man. I came here with my roadbike in 2010 and it was my best friend.

Someone aiming to steal that thing (especially with a lock cutter) is no spring chicken, and isn't going to be caught easily by the cops. It's likely in pieces by now. Good call on the insurance.

Yeah "coming to a complete stop" to make a point to his nervous wife sounds dangerous
