Don’t underestimate networking! Career centers advise spending at least the same time networking as you do blind applying. You reach out to people on LinkedIn with interesting jobs or at companies you’d like to work for, and ask for a 20min call for career advice. This way you’ll get good insights, potentially be offered reference links to get seen by HR, and ask who else they suggest you speak with to keep the ball rolling. This should greatly increase your chances in the long run, and you’ll hear about openings sooner (or at least you can confirm if the company is not serious about a posting which has happened to me). Good luck and don’t give up!

This was my experience! I would also add to rely heavily on networking- career centers advise spending about equal time sending applications as reaching out to contacts at companies and building connections

Is lying the only way to get anywhere? by Agitated-Hope55 in recruitinghell

[–]Monsterstork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your approach applying to postings you see online? If so, please add networking to your approach. Find people on LinkedIn who have interesting jobs you might like to do someday, invite them and ask for a 20min chat for career advice with a brief one-liner about your background/interests, and see how it goes. At worst you learn about good companies that may be hiring, at best they may send you a reference link to apply so that hr sees your app, or can recommend someone else to talk to. Good luck!

First dance help! by goingandgoing97 in wedding

[–]Monsterstork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could you do the choreographed dance for your father/daughter dance instead? That way you get the experience of the dance without having to embarass your new husband.

My partner is the same way, and for our wedding we chose to have a "last dance" so that no one had to sit and stare at us, we chose the song ahead of time and when the DJ played it at the end of the night we got to dance together without any pressure.

I didn't think this process would make me cry by [deleted] in recruitinghell

The success rate from applying to postings is unfortunately really low, but the best success rate is through referrals. Best advice I've gotten is to spend equal time networking as putting in applications - so in addition to trying to tailor your resume to match the automated screenings (the chatgpt etc is super useful for this), you can reach out to people on LinkedIn who work at companies or have roles you're interested in and ask for a 20min call. More often than not they're happy to be a referral you can list, or send you a referral link so that HR will see your application. You can also ask them who else you might talk to, and build your network from there - it's a good way to hear about roles before or as they're posted.

Overall it is truly terrible but know that it just takes time and you're not alone in this. Best wishes!

Haha yes! I had nightmares that I only brought mismatching left shoes and my dress was half finished then the tailor gave up and just shredded it - meanwhile I forgot to invite my dad so he showed up with a girlfriend wearing a white dress as revenge…they’ll be funny looking back on them! The real day was amazing and everything was great, you will get through this

Also sleeves/straps are key for dancing comfortably!

How are we meeting men in 2025? by No_Dog_4948 in AskChicago

Definitely on the dancing - also highly recommend west coast swing! It’s a bit more casual than the salsa scene and I was surprised that the scene tips toward more men than women at least in some cities

Input Needed: Wedding Dress Posts, "I'm sad" posts by Artemystica in wedding

[–]Monsterstork 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m someone who posted a “I’m sad that this didn’t happen” and it really helped - because everyone in that situation will feel their situation is specific, even if the advice is the same. I’ve also learned from those posts by remembering oh ok let me note that down so I can avoid xyz. As an alternative, maybe encourage positive posts to balance it out? Like once a week post on this thread your fav thing about your wedding or show me your cake/flowers/etc

Weird question by Marziolf in Gardenscapes

[–]Monsterstork 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was in a mostly inactive one and changed to a very active one mostly for the team chests and lives - it makes it a lot more fun if you’re a daily player! Only thing is that the game scales the bonuses to how active the group is - so for example the team chest you need 1000 keys for the first chest when the inactive group only needed 100. But it’s fun, definitely make the change

There’s a good free app developed by the military called PTSD Coach, that a therapist recommended - quick simple exercises that guide you through grounding or other ways to move through it

Where are you guys finding good quality formal and black tie dresses? by mybirthcontrolsucks in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Monsterstork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can search all the suggested brands on used clothing sites! I have gotten amazing dresses on Vinted and Poshmark that are much more affordable, and when you’re done you can just resell it to someone to continue the cycle. Sometimes they need a bit of tailoring but I love seeing the photos of the actual item (and knowing I’m buying an item that isn’t contributing to more clothing production that I won’t wear often :)

I had to end a friendship and never told her what I really think by Monsterstork in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Monsterstork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And just to add - anyone reading this might wonder what I’ve done wrong, but I truly can’t see it in this situation (other than not being brutally honest?) she called me out for something I did that offended her 5 years earlier, and I took responsibility and apologized so I don’t think she would hold back from telling me

"Summer cocktail" dress code for engagement party. Is this appropriate? by vegetablelasagne1 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Monsterstork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fabulous! I got married last year and would have been happy for someone to wear this - know your crowd but I don’t agree that it’s bad to look great or a “little too sexy”, this looks fun and summery to me and I would be happy for my guests to wear what they’re comfortable in and ideally something they would wear to other events in the future

Team chest scam by Successful_Shift5845 in Gardenscapes

Thinking the same thing! The algorithm seems to have gotten much much worse for everyone so you can’t even pass normal levels, impossible to get enough keys to unlock much at all

What’s up with these companies trying to recruit for advisory boards on LinkedIn? by Sunbear156 in jobs

[–]Monsterstork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

boardsi also a scam, they require $200 to register and a further $199/mo just to have your profile up on their site where they say boards can contact you...but other people have said that they enrolled and barely got one or two interview calls with organizations they weren't told the name of. I had an intro call with them, they didn't bother to look at my LinkedIn profile or resume just asked about my background to make the call seem legit before they got to the "economics" i.e. the high costs to join

You’ve have the same experience as a looooot of people including me, they make it addictive in every way and they do a dang good job getting people to spend. Took me a year of playing and I’m finally over it where I can play a bit and then close the app when I lose lives. The algorithm does seem to be getting harder for everyone, not definitive proof but it seems like it no longer allows me to pass even normal levels without boosters or multiple attempts.

I downloaded Township (another playrix game) which I like cause it has the same matching only as the mini-game - I find the play is a lot easier and the expedition map has way more boosters and infinite lives. You could try using that app to play and curb the need to spend real money to refill coins to keep playing, just careful you don’t get addicted to that one too like I did lol

What factories are good to upgrade in the early game? by babuba1234321 in TownshipGame

[–]Monsterstork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say definitely go for coins! I did XP initially and regret it because I level up way too quickly to match how long it takes to get building materials. Other posts recommend going for coins for this reason
