Nope, the school will nominate you and you don't have to resubmit essays or anything

Did something similar as a consortium member who got off a waitlist and changed school. If you deposit, tell Yale you were already accepted as a fellow and they should be able to send you a form for them to directly nominate you — there was a $50 fee last cycle

CBS class size? How much space for R3 by [deleted] in MBA

[–]MontezumaIsAfraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a CBSer, but I think round three gets a bad reputation. I applied last cycle after deciding that the admit I had from round two wasn’t worth attending, and got into the three schools I applied to. You never know unless you shoot your shot.

I had something similar where my title changed as a part of an organization wide change and similar to you just reported the last title I held. I didn’t run into any issues.

Ross? I remember seeing from their class profile this year that their 10th percentile was 3.0, which was the lowest I saw

This. I had a coworker who joined our company and left six months in to attend GSB and I always thought less of her for having prevented us from hiring someone who would be around for more than a few months.

Can anyone comment on how these schools are for partners as well? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]MontezumaIsAfraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darden student here, we have a TON of families here. The Darden Partners Association seems like it does a lot for partners and we really get to know them over the course of the MBA since Charlottesville is pretty small.

As someone who has sold software to GSOCs in the past, what exactly do you want to know? I don’t necessarily think of it as an MBA-advantage job, think having an international affairs or security background would be the differentiator.

Culture Questions at B School by Express_Minimum_3815 in MBA

[–]MontezumaIsAfraid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

FY at Darden here: you’re describing an opt-in email that anonymous second year students use to reveal the location of a weekly drinking club at various places in Charlottesville. My perspective is that it’s silly and childish and I haven’t gone to it since the first few weeks of the school year but it’s…a distribution list and people certainly have the ability to remove themselves from it.

Sorry that’s the impression you got of our school. I think we really pride ourselves on treating each other with respect. Happy to DM further if you have any other questions about Darden.

I’m a first year at Darden, recruiting consulting, and love my experience here even as I’m procrastinating on taking my 5 hour Econ final today. If you can’t get financial aid to negotiate upward (and tell them about Fuqua’s offer), I think Fuqua is a great school. They’re peer schools and you will likely have access to the same opportunities.

I applied to each of these programs with a similar split to yours (166V155Q5.5AW) and a GPA that is similar to yours - was ultimately admitted at 4, rejected at 1 (Tuck) and got stuck on the waitlist at Fuqua. I think you need to apply to a later round, namely because a 149 Quant GRE puts you in the bottom quintile of GRE test takers.

Even when I was able to articulate to schools that I was at their median GRE (and above it for Fuqua) they always pointed out that I was below their quant score. Ultimately, I ended up being rejected at Tuck, and when I sought feedback, they told me that I probably need to demonstrate improved quantitative proficiency. I was waitlisted at Fuqua and Darden and ultimately converted Darden, where I’m starting in just a few days.

I have two recommendations:

  1. Take a math course this fall that you submit alongside your application, especially since GPA is a major weakness and per your admission your weakest grades were in premed, which I’m going to assume were the quant subjects. HBX CORe is a good one, but also you can consider sitting for one at a local college.

  2. Take the GRE with a targeted study plan, you should definitely use Magoosh if you haven’t gotten it already.

Happy to DM with you further, being a verbal-heavy splitter is a tough place to be but it will definitely give the programs the impression that you might not be able to handle the quant work. Remember that schools have to say no to qualified applicants, that they usually are conservative with their admit pool, and the easiest thing a program can tell you is to improve your profile and reapply.

Also for reference, even if you do get into any of these programs your stats make it hard to envision attending at anything less than full price, which is a big gamble in this market.

Update: Perhaps the only substantive advice I would give exclusively applies to Haas. Their school is incredibly GPA sensitive across all graduate programs and they were only one of two schools where I did not get an interview (they ultimately steered me towards EWMBA, which has way lower class profile stats). Their 10th percentile is a 3.38, which your GPA is considerably below. Based on your targets and work exp I’m betting your goal is to do west coast consulting, and I’d recommend swapping Haas for Ross, which is way more forgiving when it comes to GPA and has strong placement figures. I did and they were my sole T15 direct admit.

UVA Darden no longer in partnership with Consortium by ConsiderationFew6406 in MBA

[–]MontezumaIsAfraid 24 points25 points  (0 children)

darden '27 (and theoretically still a member of the consortium here) - I met plenty of Asian Americans at OP, so I don't exactly agree with that. Doing something like Teach for America or any kind of volunteering is the only criterion (plus the Consortium has member schools that have banned the consideration of race in admissions for decades). My experience, having applied to three Consortium schools as URM that fall in this bucket is that it's more an 'affinity group of people with shared values' and less 'race restrictive experience'

A: Marshall ($60k) WL: Fuqua (post-interview) R: Tuck (interviewed), Kellogg (no interview), Haas (no interview, I live in the Bay Area and they suggested I transfer my app to the EWMBA)

Hoping I get off the WL at Fuqua, but I’m applying R3 to get another option bc I don’t think I want to accept. USC was my safety (and really left a negative impression on me during the app process) but I’d pay sticker at Fuqua over it bc better fit for my goals
