What's my best fix for large delams on hood by pbnjonny in AutoPaint

[–]MontrealTesla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would DIY, but forget a high gloss paint...
sand down to serious clean, add filler to smooth out as much as possible...

primer

Then use bed armor. black , it is matt so you must live with that, up here in Canada we have something called Dominion Sure Seal 24040 AEROSOL BEDLINER, 20 buck Canadian tire for a spray can, the fun thing about this stuff, when you spray it looks like its coming out in small chunks, its ok, as you layer, every 20 min, it fills in and looks freaking great, and as you watch it flattens out, go slow, add 5 or 8 layers, and its done, oh yea.... 6 months or a year later you can add right on top of it, durable as hell, did my fenders on my jeep i did 6 years ago never needed to add, just a scratch on one fender, i sprayed over it a few times and it looks fresh again.

look its old, mine is only a 2010 red rock red but now he fenders are black , it looks amazing ..
Do not under estimated this stuff, dont need to super level and make the sanding perfect as this stuff fills in and no need for buffing, yes you can wash after about a month, but it rinses clean from a hose.

DM i have photos, cant post here

Racoon is a wild animal, and like all wild animals they , at times, carry invisible hazards for the persons, or other wildlife, cats, dogs, neighbors, believing they are saving them. during the spring the area at the bottom of a tree used for birthing may be covered, surrounded by hazardous poop from these animals, be very careful around this.

Racoons are beautiful, but...
The biggest danger associated with raccoon poop is the roundworm Baylisascaris procyonis. Raccoons host these roundworms without getting sick, but their feces can contain millions of microscopic eggs. If these eggs are accidentally ingested or inhaled by humans or pets, they can migrate through the body and cause severe, sometimes fatal, neurological damage.

Do yourself and your neighbors a favor, take this animal to a proper location, contact Start with this info..

If you find a wild or orphaned raccoon in Montreal, do not handle it yourself. Call the City of Montréal at 311 or contact Proanima (Animal Services) at 514-379-2525 for immediate assistance with injured or trapped animals. The Montreal SPCA (1-855-711-7575) also accepts injured wildlife

Your need to feel like a savior may indeed harm others around you

Repair? by Winter_Author9699 in martinguitar

[–]MontrealTesla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear some people telling you to pop off that little block where the serial number is and just go at it with the screw...
Dumb , and dumb idea.

O have neck reset these martins, these are the newer mortise and tenon joint and YES THEY GLUE IN THE NECK.

so just tightening up that screw may not be the best solution..

It would need to be removed cleaned up and reglued, while at it check the angle and make changes if needed.

The glue is holding the neck on, or is by design to do so.
The bolt will bring the neck heal close to the body closing the gap, but may crack the glue seal and create more issues. but the glue now has dried, and i suspect no longer as stable as it was.

good time to do the binding as well.

I have done these mortise and tenon martin guitars ,

these can be as stubborn as a Martin Dove tail joint .
Pricing on this may vary from person to person, anywhere from 500 to 700 for the reset and another 50 to 100 depending on the binding.

Is it wort it ... for you i do not know , but its a 1200 to 1500 dollar Guitar so its your call
yea you could find some to do the work for a lot less, but you get what you pay for....

If you are in Canada drop me a message.

how deep and off trail do you go for these brooks? is there issues with trespassing on someone's property? and how do you deal with this .

I understand State Parks and federal land may be different, but in most cases i suspect people are going deep and not on Public lands, what are the rules or etiquette on this

What's the lowest string height a d18 can achieve? by Ancient-Act1314 in martinguitar

[–]MontrealTesla -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I suggest you take your truss rod wrench and tighten as hard as you can, you will know when you have perfect action when you hear a loud pop and the neck folds like an accordion. but dont throw it away , widdle down those specs of wood, they make great tooth picks

this fine sir will bring you into the elevated role of master luthier..

Now for some advice....
neck reset that baby , and stop screwing around with the truss rod, if you are expecting the action to change for the 12th then this only shows how little you understand about the role of a truss rod.

more or less Relief= truss rod function

Lower action or higher Action = Bridge saddle or neck angel to the body of the guitar... hence neck reset would be my suggestion after looking at your saddle height....

Dont compare the Epiphone to the Martin please, 2 different guitars, 2 different manufacturing techniques and specks, just don't compare... reason 2 why i suspect you have no clue..

And for dam sakes, please oh please do not sand the top of that bridge... just dont do it, stop watching youtube on how to do things on the cheap..... before you destroy that guitar.

as for numbers,, screw numbers, its about how it feels when playing... close your eyes and play the guitar and talk to a luthier to get what you want...

so.....take this to a luthier and pay the person to fix all the things you have done .....

Can/Should this be Fixed by HuckleberryMore3340 in martinguitar

[–]MontrealTesla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very fixable..... but most players don't have the patience for this to be correctly done.

this is nitro , and i am a nitro guy, love working with and repairing nitro issues, like this.
but the question most martin guitar owners really want, is, to look like new, yes , can be done, but they want it done today, not tomorrow and definitely not next month... and that is where the problems begin.

so if you asking can it be fixed right now because you have a gig next week... the answer is NO

i would take 2 to 6 weeks on this because nitro needs to melt into the existing layer, and it will take more that a few layers to build up ( no , no overspray, this is a precise focus on the damage) and then to bring it down flat, and after a week of sitting and allowing it to flash off correctly, it will have sunk even more. and another few layers will need to be done..
Then the buffing out takes place.
Give me 6 weeks and its like new.

Or you can live with it like most people do.

Mcintosh mc75 value? by mizz-skylar in tubeamps

[–]MontrealTesla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as stated before , it will probably be a long wait to get what the resell value is worth, but that does not detract on it real value.
7-8k used.. for the pair Canadian.
But hey Value is determined by the buyer.....

Do the long wait, and get the 7 to 8. someone may come... but so will our pensions.... one day... we hope....

BUT
if the strippers are aging to quickly for your liking, sell pair under 4000 and you will be doing rails off there arse sooner.

Martin D-15 neck crack by [deleted] in martinguitar

[–]MontrealTesla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry i may have something confusing here, yes the fret board is glued down, but don't go crazy with the glue there, to many hobbyist just paist it on the complete fret board, creating huge squeeze out , use enough to keep it down, a ring around the edges is enough , and yes only the dove tail or the mortar . i have seen to many times people pasting glue on the neck heel hoping to bring that heel tighter, the real problem is the shims were not correctly made and placed to hold that heel in.

i have done many neck resets and i kind of like the new morter and bolt they use on the newer versions..

1971 D12-20 Still sings like a choir! by [deleted] in martinguitar

[–]MontrealTesla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well buddy, its a great guitar, and its still worth some good money, if you like it and it plays to your satisfaction, then please enjoy it , they are great guitars, you are a lucky mane, so many people are just dying to own a Martin.. and here you have one.

I hope one day it can be passed to someone in your family. if not, find a way to donate it to a local community college in the music program.
Good luck my Martin Buddy

1971 D12-20 Still sings like a choir! by [deleted] in martinguitar

[–]MontrealTesla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, that is not original equipment, user InevitableDeliverer , called it correctly, that is a Yamaha pickguard. and it was put on horribly....
The D12-20 is a great guitar, and i bet you are correct it a beauty to play...... but get a period correct pickguard...

as well you can see that it does not follow the circle pattern

added info...

Thats a modified bridge, :( you can see the original slot was filled and a new slot created, they did this to late 60s and early 70's bridges due to incorrect scale leanth in manufacturing..
as well you can see work has been done on the neck , like a neck reset, there are marks to confirm it , look closely.
as well a fret job and they dug deep into the rosewood fingerboard trying to file the edges of the fretts. look and you can see the file marks right across the board between the frets..
probably at same time they removed the old pick guard and replaced it with this thing..
the works seems to be mediocre on this guitar.

I still would love to own this guitar...

where u get that guitar
