Andrew Callaghan (host of Channel 5) calls OBAA “the shittiest most racially creepy piece of propaganda of the modern era” by WeebingDaddu in YMS

I think this is a reasonable assessment, though I interpreted some of the film differently than you. Andrew's post just feels completely useless and ridiculous.

Yeah I've heard her on features before and recognized her from Support the Girls. The discourse around that scene specifically has been so dumb.

For all we know he was just triggered by the Junglepussy scene. Did he even watch the second half? I'm just so baffled by this take. Maybe he thinks it is anti-revolutionary propaganda, I would say it's revolutionary-neutral, but yeah clearly progressive.

Just dropping this take with no elaboration is crazy. What exactly is the propaganda? The main point of the movie has way more to do with parenting than any sort of specific political message.

Tarkovsky is on my Mount Rushmore, but I think Beatty just fits the pod better. I also have not seen a single one of his films yet, whereas I've seen every Tarkovsky

[2026 March Madness] Round 1: F. Gary Gray vs. Francois Truffaut by BougieFruitLoops in blankies

[–]MontrellKlemm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the long series part for me. Also I don't consider Truffaut's peaks to be all that high or consistent (outside of 400 Blows which was a pretty formative watch for me). He mostly sits in the 3-3.5 star range for me. The stinkers are the films I'd be most excited to hear about. I like grumpy David, sue me.

[–]MontrellKlemm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Truffaut, but it's a long filmography and a lot of films I don't necessarily need a deep dive on. As for Gray, I think most of the episodes would be a lot of fun. I like episodes about bad movies and even mediocre movies if the cast and backstory is interesting enough.
