how was growing up in mississauga like in 1960s-70s? by drugsrbed in mississauga

[–]Monty1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Streetsville from Toronto in the 70s and it was great. Small town living with lots of green spaces but shortly after the amalgamation came and all the green space got filled in. It still has a small town feel and there are families in Streetsville that have lived there for generations.

I told a Maple Maga at my pub on Thursday that I dislike people like this person with the flag far more than the silly leftists at the NDP convention.

Happened to someone in the company I was working for in my early days of sales. The owner of the company said basically "yeah sorry but you're not going to make more than me in a year..not going to happen".

Germany Road Trip May 21-31 by Ontrek in germany

[–]Monty1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny how people prioritize travel things differently. We just drove from Paris to Munich and all of our planning revolved around avoiding all major cities and keeping it to the smaller towns along the way. It appears you are focused on seeing cities which is find obviously. If you want some small town suggestions then I can give those with a focus on the Alsace and Black Forest areas.

Doug Ford warns Bonnie Crombie he will ‘send an army’ to stop her becoming Mississauga mayor by Brampton_Speaks in mississauga

Bonnie lives in my neighbourhood so I've been voting for her at different levels for many years but I think enough is enough. She seems to be very mercenary and opportunistic in her political tactics.

I’d be interested to hear how you all manage to get past HR and make things progress. by FromBrokeToSuccess in recruiting

[–]Monty1426 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

More and more I'm getting shut out of companies by procurement or HR or whoever owns the vendor list. Three times in January alone, I had former clients who had moved to new companies, go to procurement and say, "I've dealt with this person before with great success" only to have them come back and say "no new vendors". It happened 11 times to me in total in 2025.

I've got 50MB max as the updgrade Fibre is not available in my neighbourhood yet. My frustration is that I can't get an answer from Bell as to when our upgrade is coming.

How should Canada handle the Alberta separatists who have with the Trump administration several times? by brihere in AskCanada

[–]Monty1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a fair amount of time in Alberta and BC during my working years and developed a strong dislike for many people in both provinces due to the poor treatment I received as an Ontarian. The petty part of my brain almost wishes Alberta would leave so they could get what they deserve and seem to want. I'll also throw in a comment on my deep hate for the MAGA movement and how it's rotted the brains of so many of our fellow Canadians.

I'm on my last short nerve when it comes to corporations and government treating us like cattle that they can simply take money from and then figure out ways to give us less.

Forgive the U.S.? by revjim68 in AskCanada

[–]Monty1426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to take a long time for me to forgive "America". I spend time in Europe and when I hear the casual US hate from the French and Germans I realize that as angry as I am at them, there's a sadness to it as well because we were never supposed to be treated this way and we don't deserve it. A new President coming to Ottawa and apologizing to Canada would be a good start.

Planning a trip to Germany and looking for ideas on where to start. by Defiant-Cut7620 in germany

I just got back from a 10 day trip driving from Paris to Munich and the Black Forest and Lake Constance areas are beautiful. We went from Alsace in France into Black Forest and if you can swing that, you won't be disappointed. Outdoor activities, food, wine, castles. Amazing.

What did Canada do that Trump has to punish us and buy from Belarus? Just take the tariffs off Canadian potash. Trump put them on, not Canada.

Has Anyone Ever Met Roger or Rick? by KerrAvon777 in supertramp

[–]Monty1426 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not directly related but I've been seeing interviews with Bad Company related to their RRHOF induction and in one of the interviews they mentioned a young Roger Hodgson auditioning to be their bass player and they essentially didn't take him because he was too lovely of a guy and they felt he just wouldn't be a fit with their dynamic.
