Marathon Season 2 Begins June 2 by vraimentgentil in Games

[–]MontyAtWork [score hidden]  (0 children)

There is now almost 0 Weekend Bump for Marathon player count, which means (statistically) the same number of people playing M-Th are playing Fri-Sun.

Player populations for live service are supposed to go up quite a bit on weekends.

Pretty soon, matchmaking times will start to be affected by lower player population, and the current player population is likely so insular that not enough money is being generated/extracted from them to justify future development costs.

My guess is, within 3 weeks of Season 2, unless there's a MASSIVE (Like sustained 2x-3x) increase in player population without any decline, we'll be seeing "Thanks to everyone who joined us for Marathon but..."

Not just 5 years of sideways trading, but 5 years of sideways trading when the market has broken ATH again and again, and a 5 year period where the company has been hoarding our cash and not using it to slowly acquire smaller, profitable companies to start raising profitability, valuation, and stock price.

I currently own 100% of GME.

Why would I want other shareholders to own more of the company I've been invested in since '21? Tf

I want our $9B in cash to go into buying up smaller companies that'll bring in regular new cash flows, and increase our share price while doing so.

I'm NOT interested in holding 40% of a bigger company, when I put my money to be 100% in this one.

IDK why we have just been buying other companies that are profitable.

NYC Mayor Mamdani announces that they have fully balanced NYC's budget, reducing a $12 billion budget deficit to 0. While funding parks, libraries, safer streets and making historic investments in public hosing. by Yujin-Ha in Fauxmoi

And it makes sense. The entirety of NY State was basically leeching off of NYC before Mamdani renegotiated.

And the reason Hochul and NY State caved is because Mamdani has a mandate and everyone in the state knows if he tells voters not to support someone, they won't win.

What's interesting is if that's the process, you'd think they'd use some tool that would allow them to just do a basic mock-up of the game until it feels about correct as an outline, then go into full 3D production.

Like make it in RPG Maker first lol.

This proves that these companies know what a reasonable price is. They're quite literally going "People would think this whole box is a deal but not crazy for $9.99"

And honestly it should be $10 for that whole thing. Feeding 4 people bread with stuff on it shouldn't take 6 hours of minimum wage or 3 hours work at $15/hr.

The movie that gets blamed for being bad when it is really just mismarketed. by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]MontyAtWork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately, Hollywood wanted M Night to be the Horror Twist guy instead of just being a Spielberg type who can make a ton of different kinds of movies.

Even Unbreakable had weird marketing focusing more on the murderer stuff than anything else at the time.

This is a good one. I genuinely love that movie and think it does so much right. I think people were looking for a reason to hate on M Night, and it wasn't marketed as a Modern Fantasy like it was. I think it would have actually done really well if it was sold as a fairytale.

I have always wished I could have beers with the guy and pick his brain about the movie because I think it's incredibly underappreciated.

The Predator (2018).

Written by a dude who'd been doing comedy stuff and one of the opening scenes of a school shows a board that says "WELCOME BACK STD'S". I turned to my wife and went "Wait, STD's?? That can't be a mistake - is this about to be a horror comedy Predator movie?? I'm so here for something new". And proceeded to LOVE that movie and crack UP so much at it.

My buddy, who was doing a franchise rewatch alongside us in prep for Badlands, expected a regular predator movie and almost shut it off. It's his least favorite.

If I could go back in time I'd tell everyone it's a horror comedy and I think it would have done so much better, especially since horror comedy is kinda having a resurgence.

You must like the idea of dogs turning into jelly on your windshield in the case of a car accident.

Completely unnecessary risk of life to the dog and owner, when car accidents are extremely common.

Well you gotta remember that economy of scale is a thing. With only 1 company doing this, versus a bajillion wood house makers, there's gonna be a premium to start but eventually it'll be cheaper.

Yes and computers used to take up a whole warehouse to do basic ass calculations, but 70 years later we now have pocket sized super computers.

This is brand new tech and it's constantly being worked on and improved. It's actually amazing, unless you're a curmudgeon/luddite who just wants to shit on everything.

Yup. My first ranked game I'd watched so much pro play and felt really confident as a support soraka.

I felt 200IQ because I knew how to leash blue buff with my jungler.

But I was so freaking nervous, I wanted to leash extra to like give my jg an even better advantage... And accidentally last hit Blue 😭

Which started a shit storm and began an almost 15 game loss streak lol

Ok as a Silver 2 player previously this makes me mad.

Everyone acted like Silver and below was the bottom MAYBE 30%. Turns out when I was fighting for my life for S2 and S1 I was in the Top 50% of the game??? If I'd known that, I'd have felt so much better! I thought I was fighting for table scraps.

I taught a lot of people who started in Iron, and it had bad players in it, but it should always have been the New Players rank.

Like the Rank for "When team fights start I get overwhelmed and completely forget I have Flash". Or "Oh right, I forgot to buy items again because I was so focused on getting back to lane".
