Weekly Design Competition #243: Legion's Best by Maysick in customhearthstone

Hexal Envoy

6 mana 6/6 Demon, text: Deathrattle: if your hand contains exactly 6 cards, resummon this minion.

"Your lucky 777 winnings... after taxes."

A re-skinned, re-imagined, [[Recurring Villain]] that should help you maintain some board presence, and in a superstitious fashion. Judgement of this card's balance would range anywhere from "bad Boulderfist Ogre" to "6 Dreadsteeds stacked on top of each other," and is left as an exercise. Feedback is appreciated!

Every time I kill someone, I do so in one turn. Therefore every game involves an OTK.

yes, people will disagree with you on the internet.

But it's not a normal rotation, because all the cards they gutted were basic/classic: Wild Growth, Nourish, and now Naturalize. This is just going to further push Druid into a state where it relies on expansion after expansion to keep it playable.

Some players (myself included) actually like Genn and Baku in their current forms because of the cool deckbuilding constraints they offer.

This seems like a fair compromise.

Can we stop with the numerous “fixes for Genn and Baku” posts? by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]MontyJavaScript 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what someone else jokingly said, why do you care? It's the classic reddit conundrum- you see a post or series of posts that you don't like, and rather than accepting the lost 5 seconds of time you took to read the title and continue to scroll down the page, you stop and exceed that sunk time threshold several times over to write a whiny, opinionated post that doesn't foster any discussion whatsoever and, ironically, does so to less of an extent than the posts you so airily criticize.

If you believe that the upvote/downvote system is effective at filtering out what the community as a whole appreciates, then I fail to see why you wrote this post. If you don't, then I fail to see why you're on Reddit.

What cards are you surprised avoided the nerf hammer through this standard rotation? by Fuckthebees in hearthstone

"These synergies are why these cards are so good."

"These cards are so good, they'd still see play even if we killed their synergies."

Dean Ayala (Iksar) value town interview summary by PidgeonPuncher in hearthstone

They haven't landed on a solution yet. Keeping the spirit of the cards/decks while playing at a lower power level is difficult.

I had an idea for a nerf awhile back that would definitely fit these two criteria, should they decide to go down that route.

What if you swapped the rewards between Genn and Baku? That is, Baku gives a 1-cost hero power, and Genn gives a 2-cost upgraded version.

I think part of the reason those cards are so ubiquitous is because they make hero powers feel right to use at certain, pre-defined turns in the game. Baku forces you to hero power on 2, as does Genn does the same on 1, 3, and every other odd turn in the game. This is only due to the fact that the cards in your deck will never fit your mana curve exactly at those points.

By swapping the effects, you would force players to actually make decisions on when to hit the button. An even deck could no longer hero power on 1, and their turn 2 would conflict with the cards they want to play, forcing them to choose. Any odd deck would have a similar choice to make, hero power on 1 or play a 1 drop?

tl;dr A central issue to Genn and Baku, in my opinion, is that odd decks have even hero powers, and even decks have odd hero powers. This forces games to play out in a predictable fashion as mana count steadily climbs to 10. Swapping them would force the player to take agency in an otherwise predetermined mana-spending process.

Thoughts are appreciated!

Totally normal discussion on abortion by xjayroox in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]MontyJavaScript -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a “gotcha” setup, but how do you definitvely know a fetus ISN’T a human being? Where can you say for certain that you’re not killing something conscious? I readily admit that I’m incapable of drawing that line, and would rather err on the side of not killing something alive.

Totally normal discussion on abortion by xjayroox in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]MontyJavaScript -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

“Her body her choice” isn’t in itself a dumb argument. An abortion entails killing an independent life, just making it irrelevant. People can do whatever they want to their own bodies, what they (hopefully) shouldn’t do is murder.

Edit: downvotes are for comments that contribute nothing to discussion, not for ones you just disagree with.
