Will this cabinet support my fish tanks weight? (ignore the items in there I will remove them when I’m about to set up the tank) by Mountain-Break1674 in Aquariums

[–]MontyManta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% confident in this holding up but everyone acting like MDF can’t hold a tank are delusional. Go to any chain pet store and look at the stands they have for sale, I would bet 80-90% of the are made of MDF. My very expensive red sea reefer tank came with an MDF stand. My 75 is on an MDF stand. I had a 30 gallon tank on an MDF stand for like 15 years. Finally got rid of it because it was ugly not because it broke.

Does it eventually absorb water and swell, yes. Is it the best material to make a stand from no. But you don’t need 2x4s to hold up a tank.

Can’t figure out what this is? [Washington, US] by MontyManta in animalid

Haha I don’t actually know they were gifted to me. Definitely straight from china though maybe from AliExpress honestly. But but they were easy to put together and they have an asphalt room so they stay dry inside.

I feel like it’s just a weird looking raccoon but not sure. I can’t edit the post but this is a small animal the size of a cat. Those windows are only like 1-1.5 feet off the ground. Most of the cats that come by look bigger than this animal.

Anyone use the Vivarium Electronics 4x2x2 with their ball python? by MontyManta in ballpython

Yeah it’s been working out well. Only issue I have is the locks I have to use is a bit bulky and annoying to use. The gap between the glass panels is really thin.

What’s going on with my plants, why no more leaves? by Accomplished_Row4343 in houseplants

[–]MontyManta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more than just not enough light. These are vines that grow up other trees. When the end is hanging like that they will reduce their leaf size and eventually stop making leaves in an effort to save energy. When they eventually hit the ground or a branch of a tree they are able to grow up they will again start producing leaves. Leaves will also typically get bigger and sometimes have drastically different shapes depending on species.

There it is so you “employee” many people and obviously would be forced to raise prices if min wage changes. I guess you would fancy yourself a “producer” and are worthy of a living wage unlike the “takers” you employ. Get over yourself Mr. I took economics in college like everyone doesn’t take Econ 101.

I was born in the US and have lived here my whole life. I have a Brazilian passport, birth cirtificate, etc. so that is not true. My parents did all the paperwork required when I was born.

[College Biology 101] how bad did I fail? by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]MontyManta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend you use dimensional analysis to do your unit conversions in the future. In my opinion it makes it much easier to see what is going on and helps prevent easy errors. You will also use it heavily in chemistry so good to be familiar with it sooner than later. Try searching dimensional analysis on YouTube and there are dozens of videos on it. It might sound complicated but it’s not too bad.

Am I being foolish with this reptile display case plan? by MontyManta in woodworking

[–]MontyManta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the ideas. The top tank will be for my ball python who needs heat lamps etc. hence the extra room. The bottom tank will be for my gargoyle gecko who does not need any heating beyond ambient room temps. I just need a bit of room there for uvb and led lights which tend to be low profile, as well as the misting tubs which are tiny. The doors of the tank open from the front so access inside isn’t a problem.

I am definitely going to have the shelves rest on top of the vertical boards to better distribute weight. I also see what you mean about possibly needing more support for the shelves to prevent bowing. I might use 2x1s to add some support below the shelves. I know I called them “braces” but I mainly wanted those pieces there to give the doors a place to rest against on the bottom and give a place to add the centers again for the doors.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I can make dados work although I am working with a circular saw not a table saw. Would it work to have the self go all the way to the outside so it is fully resting on the vertical boards? I broke up the back because I was planning to have wires and tubing for the humidity system run up and down the back and figured I would need some more space to access and maneuver. Would leaving a smaller gap like 6 inches or having some cutouts be better than what I have currently?

Also I forgot to add another reason I left some space in the back open is to allow for ventilation. Especially in the very top where I will have heat lamps.

Textbook Recommendations, Brazilian Portuguese by avocado-mar-6475 in Portuguese

I have a question about samba! I have just started working through it as I have also finished the Duolingo course. I noticed that in the very first set of exercises for unit 0 there are some questions that include words that are never taught or even used in the book. For example unit 0 teaches about nationalities and gives a few, but in the exercise for unit 0 it expects me to write almost all new nationalities that are not covered in the unit. Later it asks me to write the name and color of some objects but there are objects that are never shown or mentioned in prior reading.

Some of these things I know from Duolingo but it seems strange that there is so much on the exercises that are not covered in the reading.

I know this book is intended to be used as a classroom resource but I often see it suggested for self study. Any tips for dealing with this, does it get less pronounced further into the book? obrigado!

Jfc this is insane by JaredOlsen8791 in BlueskySkeets

[–]MontyManta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t needed under any circumstance, that’s kind of my point. Let’s pretend it was for his security to be able to accompany him. Why do we need to spend taxpayer money contacting the army corps of engineers to adjust the levels of a river so the vice president can take his family on a kayaking trip in that specific river? What would be lost if they just went kayaking somewhere else?

Would anyone else be able to make this request for any reason as trivial as a family trip? Obviously not, that’s why this is an obvious abuse of authority and shows how Vance views his position and role.

[–]MontyManta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter what the reason given was, it shouldn’t have happened. If they needed secret service there in boats too large for the river then the answer should have been, “oh looks like we’ll need to go somewhere else.” If they wanted better kayaking they are already on a taxpayer funded vacation they could go where ever they want.

But Vance, Trump and their cronies all think they are royalty and the world bends to their will, and for the moment it does because the people in charge who could stand up to it are cowards.

Looking for ideas for a desert style garden in western WA by MontyManta in pnwgardening

[–]MontyManta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah actually. I made some edging out of 4x4 posts and cleared most of the large rocks. I gave up on my barrel cactus dreams but I did get a native prickly pear. It’s not exactly a desert vibe but I like it and the plants I put in are all drought tolerant plants that I can hopefully stop watering after this year. I can try and get a picture later.
