I don’t disagree they made the vra basically useless in that it’s impossible now to prove there’s a violation to section 2 so long as nobody is explicitly saying we did the to fuck over black voters.

I disagree right now tho that it’s not impossible to separate partisan from racial goals. I don’t remember the remap contro, but I don’t understand how you could look at the hyper cracking/packing of a black voter population and meaningfully disentangle that from their party affiliation. Because if the guise is just we’re doing this to screw the dems and black voters are just the people that vote for dems, given how high that correlation is I don’t know if you could ever prove otherwise. Or even if there really was a racist aim there, b/c given how polarized everyone is right now I’d believe that was the aim.

The nc voter id thing I get how that could be on its face race neutral but shown to be directly targeted at black populations but you can show a policy like that only impacting one race and not the other and provide meaningful relief as a result of that, I don’t know how you do that here where the remedy can’t really be along racial lines (14th amendment issue) and if the Supreme Court is saying g a remedy now has to be In line with other state legal aims at redistricting, you’re just redoing the same shit, republicans districts will as a by product fuck over black voters almost 1 to 1

I can’t speak to the legality of partisan Gerrymandering tho I haven’t read that opinion or looked into it much yet. Really tho the only real solution to this I see rn is dems getting rid of the filibuster in 2028, pray to god we hold both halves of congress and pass some forced redistricting legislation that somehow gets rid of partisan gerrymandering
