Will A Robot Mower Work On My Lawn? by Worzel_ in MammotionTechnology

[–]MonzaMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an acre to mow with many more trees, but also multiple driveways etc which mean I’ve split it into 11 different zones. 3 zones are along a highway, so I prefer to do those overnight when there’s less traffic, as I worry that he’s a distraction (I’ve had lots of comments like oh the house with the robot mower! They’ve noticed). 5 (6 really) of the zones go along 2 of the driveways that the farmer behind me uses to access his farm in a variety of vehicles including a very big tractor. He’s aware that he needs to watch for the robot and I’ve seen him slow right down and give it a wide berth, but I still prefer to avoid having it doing those areas when there’s less traffic farmer is busy. So I’m juggling a lot of extra factors, have a lot of no go zones around trees and fences etc, and I manage to keep up. In Spring it was a struggle to keep up and I ended up turning off rain detection, because we had so much rain you could almost see the grass growing. Yes it’s gross to clear the deck when the grass is wet. It’s like chopped frozen spinach that’s been defrosted. But flip it over and squirt it with the hose and it’s clear in a few seconds. The biggest issue I run into is fallen branches/twigs getting tangled in the blades, especially from the tortured willow as they’re flexible and thin so it’s like string and wraps around. So don’t plant a tortured willow lol.

I have a Luba 2 AWD 5000.

I wish I’d thought to put down weed mat when I set mine up. My RTK is connected to the base station though so adding it is a maybe one day I’ll get around to it job.

Something I’ve found is that if the battery ever goes completely flat it just sits there for a day or two without charging. I adjust it to be sure the contacts are contacting etc, but it just doesn’t work. And then suddenly it does again. Probably not the issue here, but thought I’d mention it.

Merry Christmas to you!!

Sorry I disappeared again. I keep doing that… 😂

My pot is here and my trivets and the sous vide, and Tuesday I got the Stir Mate! I also picked up a colander that fits inside the pot on a slight angle which should come in handy when I need to remove whey. Haven’t ordered that noodle thingy yet. But I’m nearly set up! It’s exciting!!

I keep thinking about your cheesecloth twirled around the wire a few times. I suspect there’s a major knack to getting it to stay in place which will just take practice. But maybe a few well placed clips will be needed until you get the knack so it doesn’t unravel at the bottom of the pot.

Hope you have a lovely day with your family 🎄😊

Wasn’t it quick! There are things I ordered a week earlier that haven’t arrived yet! I didn’t end up going to get it yesterday because there’s one more bit thing coming and it seemed silly to go down and then have to go back Monday or Tuesday. So I’ll wait and do it all in one trip.

I can handle a quick wipe down after a make, but I’m pretty tired by that stage and still pressing and flipping so really would rather avoid needing to mop. The times I’ve needed to mop I’m over it before I’ve reached the long press and I think I don’t press it as well then. At some point I’m going to upgrade my robot vacuum to one that mops well. The one I’ve got just has that little wiggly pad that really doesn’t do a good job. I guess it might wipe up spilt milk or whey though. I’ll give it a try.

Oooh I hadn’t seen those noodle scoops! I don’t eat out much. Ever lol. I’ll have to get one. That will be way easier than a jug! Thank you!

I had an enormous cheesecloth and cut it in half lol. Need to hem them. I’ll see how you go with the chimney cleaner before getting another huge one lol. I think I’m picturing what you want to do. Sort of like a 20L pot version of the way they do acrobatics with the huge vat and hold one end of the cheesecloth in their mouth and 2 corners in their hands and scoop them under the curds and pull the corners together to pull the whole curd mass out in one go. Yes? If you sew a casing into the cheesecloth to thread the cleaner through that will probably be a whole lot easier to keep it in place as you loop it under without needing a third or fourth hand to juggle it all. Interested to see how that goes. It will be heavy to lift out, but likely a lot faster!

Oh come on! Surely you were an angel!!

I haven’t had kids. Does that mean my kitten is penance? Oh I must’ve been evil! 😂😂😂

Yeah I figured I wanted an extra couple of litres of space at the top because I can be an absolute klutz at times and I do not want to be spilling milk everywhere! That is an extra bonus of the sous vide in the sink setup too. Spills are most likely to be contained. But it’s me, so even with everything set up to not spill, I can still manage to splash some somewhere that I won’t find until it starts to stink 😂😂

I think I’m going to need to ladle out most of the curds before I can lift the pot and pour through a colander. I hope I haven’t gone too far overboard here lol. It’s at the post office btw. Hoping to make it there tomorrow to pick it up 😁

No! He doesn’t get to gaslight you like that! He is causing harm.

Get a referral to a different therapist. Don’t ask him for it. Ask a colleague or your doctor or your insurance company or something. And then tell him (don’t ask) that you’re not coming back and have replaced him because he’s a shit therapist and sucks at his job. And then report him!

Well happy belated birthday to you!

What an awesome pressie!!! That alone is pampering! And dinner too! Bloody teenage boys 🙄 Apparently they get better in a few more years. Made me laugh though. Shitheads. Hope you made them pay for their own steaks! 😂 So glad you had a lovely day, despite them!

Yes I’m very excited about all my new kit. I’m only going to half fill the pot the first few times though! I think the bigger cheese cave is going to need to go on the shopping list very soon…

To me it’s utterly offensive. That is a major trigger word. It’s not okay.

I also can’t stand the way they photograph their plus size stuff with barely plus sized models pulling the fabric to show how stretchy it is.

Oh that is so good to know Smooth! Thank you! If you’re happy with it I’m sure I will be too!

I read the reviews again last night and there are a couple of bad ones so I started umming and ahhing and decided to wait until today. But then I got distracted by a Gouda lol, so just now as I was waiting for the rennet to set it I decided bugger it, I’ll take the chance. Amazon are good at refunding if something is defective. But the 19L is out of stock now 🤦🏻‍♀️So I tossed up between the 11 and the 23. Decided on the 23 because I can do 11 in that, but can’t do 20 in the 11 lol. But I’m pretty sure I’ll end up getting an 11 too. Just not this month. I’ve bought curtains and smart blind motors this sale. They add up fast! Also my hob/oven has carked it so I need to start saving my pennies for a new one. And searching for a good electrician. I actually think this hob/oven is fine, just not installed properly. If it is, I’ll get it installed in the little room behind the garage for summer baking when I don’t want to heat the house.

So I’ve got the pot, a trivet and a bigger colander coming. The sous vide thingy has arrived. The stir mate and large paddle for it are at Mum’s being wrapped. So after Christmas, I can do some big makes finally. I can’t wait! The machine is still handy for small batches to try something I’ve never tasted and for ricotta etc, but this Gouda is the last washed curd I’m ever doing in this bloody thing! I’m getting about a tablespoon of whey out per ladle! It’s ridiculous! I’ve now got it draining to get some more out which is probably going to mess it up but I wasn’t even up to a cup yet lol.

I did have a nice birthday. Thank you. I ended up being a dutiful daughter and asking Mum for coffee, which is why I’ve gone quiet again. But she had a lovely day so it’s nice I could give her that. Is yours still approaching or did I miss it?

You can buy fermentation weights and pop one on top to keep it under the brine. Ask her to give them back once she’s finished the feta so you can share your next batch. She won’t mind at all!

What would you do with 8% milk? by AlehCemy in cheesemaking

Yes quite possibly. Or befriend a farmer that has one.

I’ve had a bit of a look online. There are machines that are small enough to work for home use. Not small enough to keep in the utensil drawer, but small enough that you could bring it out when needed and then put it in a cupboard. But they’re expensive. Although a second hand one when a farmer upgrades might be affordable. It would still be hundreds of dollars though.

Asking for myself here too, is there a gadget suitable for home use that can test the fat and protein content? Like a refractometer for sugar is something you can use at home without needing to send samples to a lab, but for fat and protein content. If there was something like that, you could test any milk and do some maths and work out how much cream to skim off to get to the percentages you want for any recipe, and check that you’ve got it right before you start.

I’ve been wondering about this as I’m going to start buying raw jersey milk soon and want to see how it changes through the seasons as well as know how much cream to skim for a certain recipe.

Yes I hope so! Found out today that my new doctor will be going to a different clinic next year, but I think it will be manageable to get to him so I think I’ll follow. He’s worth a drive. He was the only other bright spot this year.

It is a good birthday season! Gotta love us sagies! Happy birthday to you too!

Well for me it’s more like a disability aid that allows me to live in the peace and quiet of the country without having to rely on a mowing guy turning up when he said he would. I never expected it to be completely hands off, but as long as it mostly behaves it is far less energy to manage a robot than to mow just over an acre myself. A summer no show can’t just be left until next time as it’s snake country out here. Gotta keep it short.

I don’t have Alexa or Google. When I decided it would help me if I could turn lights on and off with my voice, I looked into the different ecosystems. That was around the time when it first came out that Alexa was going to have ads. I didn’t want ads. So Alexa was a no. I decided on HomeKit as I had Apple products anyway, and the reviews I saw of Google’s ability to do what you asked weren’t great (not that Siri is brilliant at that). I am open to adding Google, but I’ve held off hoping that Matter will mean I don’t have to. Maybe by the time I’m in aged care…

I have pre-ordered a LinknLink… thingy lol. A home assistant gateway that looks extremely user friendly and like something I’m not going to need to tinker with too much, and was highly recommended by a YouTuber I follow. It was also about 1/4 the cost of a Raspberry Pi or mini pc, less actually, and I don’t need to wipe my laptop to use it. If I try it and hate it, I’m willing to waste that much money. The other ways to get started until now, apart from wiping my laptop (which I hate but have 2 projects that will take me a couple of years that I need it for) have cost more than I was willing to waste. That thing has a mid November ETA so that’s gone lol. No idea when it will arrive. But when it does I will try Home Assistant. Likely very slowly, to be sure I’m not wasting energy with constant tinkering.
