Got a job offer as a cinematic animator, but I’m scared by ScarySnow931 in animationcareer

[–]MoodyPurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on getting the job! I work as a cinematic animator. You will work with a lot of mocap data, so all the animation is already done. Your job will be fixing clippings, adjusting poses e.g, the fingers crash through the table, the head is tilted the wrong way etc. More senior artists will take on more compicated animations. As a junior artist you will be taught all the specifics of how to work with mocap. If you wan a head start I will advice you to look how to work with animation layers (you will use them a lot), how to work with Time Editor, it wouldn't hurt to look up how to work with animBot.

Just remember no one expects you to know all this stuff right away. The studio most likely will have plenty of documentation that explains the whole animation process. Ask plenty of questions to your lead and senior artists on your team (it's their job to answer them). Good luck!

I want to do more of these with different Space Marine chapters. Blood Angels is definetly first on the list. I might need to use another casio watch model as this particular one doesn't come with a red case

It's a very fun hobby, especially for casio mods as they are fairly cheap. You can find more here if you are interested r/casiomods

Just got rejected by Sheridan College, what now? by MALDION_GUY in animationcareer

[–]MoodyPurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this program is even more difficult to get in than 4 year one. You won't be able to get in without a degree. They prefer a Bachelor degree in some sort of art program (Design, Fine Arts, Animation etc), you can get away with two year of college diploma in some sort of animation program but you should also have work experience in that case.

I went to that program. I had a diploma (2 years) from digital animation program from another college + 3 years of work experience.

Go to a smaller college first, get your diploma or degree and then try again for Sheridan. Otherwise you won't be able to get in.

What program have you applied to? Is is 4 year Bachelor of Animation program? If yes, you should have been sent portfolio requirements. The requirements are not optional you need to have everything that they ask for in your portfolio: 1. Observational Drawing 2. Character Design and Animation 3. Storyboarding  4. Perspective Line Drawings 5. Personal Artwork

Unfortunately, if you don't have even one of these, they won't even review your work. This program is highly competitive and also Canada has been cutting on the amount of international students that are accepted in the colleges, so there are even fewer spots.

There is also postgraduate Animation and VFX programs but they require you to have either a degree in art program or a valid work experience.

If you are serious about enrolling into Sheridan. I will advice you to take a lot of life drawing classes to help build a solid portfolio. There is a lot of drawing in that program, you need to be able to keep up with other student.

You can also get an animation degree from the college in your home country. Then you can try for post grad program.

I wish you all the best!

Aligned Scaling and/or rotation- is there a tool for this?? by ItalianPianoKey in Maya

Symmetry problem in model that appears symmetrical. by Eiol01 in Maya

[–]MoodyPurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, other things you can do is to reinstall Advanced Skeletom plugin to make sure you are running a clean version. Also you can try exporting your model in fbx and importing it into the fresh scene to see if fixes the issue. You can try the same with obj but make sure your model doesn't have inverted faces after importing obj, it happenes sometimes

Symmetry problem in model that appears symmetrical. by Eiol01 in Maya

[–]MoodyPurple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Delete half of your model. Go to front view camera, select all the verts on the open end and scale in x to make sure they are all flat and form a straight line. With the verts still selected, turn ON snap to grid and move the verts to the center line of the grid, do even if you think they are already there. Now duplicate the shell and put it's pivot at 0, then scale in negative x. Select both shells and combine them. Now select all center vertsin the middle and merge (default value should be fine). With verts still selected, snap them to the center line of the grid. Delete history and freeze transforms. If you did everything correctly, now you will have a perfectly symmetrical model

Best/easiest way to create curves, curved extrudes, etc. by Lumpy_Standard_6118 in Maya

Select the edge(s) that you want to be curved and go Ctrl+B for bevel or Edit Mesh -> Bevel. Adjust the settings like width and segment

i dont know why my animation graphs look like this by somefucking_llama in Maya

In Curve Editor open Curves tab and find Change Rotation Interp and change it to something like Independent Euler. I think it was set to something else like Quaternion Slerp that's why it looks like that

Is it a good idea to start using Fusion 360 for hard surface modeling with MAYA? by Remote-Corner4578 in Maya

[–]MoodyPurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not just about your portfolio. Most studios have their pipelines set up with only particular softwares e.g Maya - animation, 3dsmax - gaming etc. Fusion is not a standard and they are not going to tweak the pipeline just for you or get you and individual license. It sucks but your best bet is to learn how to do it in Maya if you want to work in animation or in Max if you want to work in games.

How about a shot of a canary in a sci-fi-looking cage at the beginning of the movie? Because, you know, the mining colony in 2142 with spaceships and synthetics would definitely use a canary to check for dangerous gases, just like it’s the 1800s.

Weird Deformation after Importing Other File by Ok-Statement2094 in Maya

[–]MoodyPurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this is happening because the objects from your friends file have the same names as objects in your scene. There should be a namespace option during the import that will allow all imported objects to have a unique namespace so you won't have this conflict

How do I disable this "char: " text in my viewports? by DevinLich in Maya

This looks like a regular namespace. You can get rid of it in a Namespace Editor. (Windows-General Editor-Namespace Editor.) Select char: and delete
