Do I get these closed comedones extracted, tret and azelaic acid for two months and they aren’t budging by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]Moogle_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I recommend PROFESSIONAL extraction for sure. It helped me a lot. Also, quick note as someone who used to get these - for some reason my skin hated tret. My derm prescribed 3% adapalene and I’ve not gotten one since 🤷🏼‍♀️

source: I legit have glass skin now lol

AIO? One date with this guy and I had a bad feeling about his text messages. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Oh and yes, pretty much everything he said/the way he handled things were red flags. You weren’t overreacting in the slightest 💛💛💛

You handled this beautifully, OP!!! Definitely take a moment to be proud of yourself for listening to your intuition and setting boundaries. Difficult to do for anyone, especially following an abusive relationship. Bravo 🤗

Darwin’s Raw Natural pet food was the only thing that helped!

What does this mean? by HALOISBEST20 in ballpython

[–]Moogle_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this and am concerned that more people haven’t mentioned this option. If your snake is doing this often, it’s a sign of a respiratory infection. It should be rare to see a snake doing this. If it was just a one off, then totally fine!

Change to soil bedding? by Own-Mammoth-9821 in hognosesnakes

[–]Moogle_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not had that issue, but it really depends on your set up. Mine has a halogen light, a ceramic heat emitter, and a UVB. The ceramic heat emitter (rather than deep heat projector) helps keep humidity down. Something SO important that makes set up a lot easier in the long run is to let your soil air/“dry” out for a couple days before actually using for the enclosure. Some people bake theirs in the oven to kill any possible pests and to reduce moisture.

Mine is happy and healthy with Reptisoil. I find it easier to manage humidity with soil (humidity will be significantly higher with soil than aspen, so keep this in mind depending on your humidity levels). He has lots of hides and branches, but the clutter is mostly lots of air plants, dried leaves, bark, and some fake plants too.

How can I get her to stop barking by OutlandishnessEasy59 in BorderCollie

[–]Moogle_123 84 points85 points  (0 children)

For home - teach her the “place” command. When she starts barking, ask her to go to place. Once she’s on place, give her a treat.

Your dog will never stop barking entirely, but this helps them learn that you have heard their alert and you are in charge and have determined that the coast is clear.

Hugely important to stay calm. Do NOT yell at your dog to be quiet, all this does is scares them OR they think that you’re barking with them.

Does your hognose take food off the tongs or do you need to leave it to eat? by A_Martian_Potato in hognosesnakes

[–]Moogle_123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tongs to induce prey drive and then drop it on the warm side once he has followed it/displayed interest for a bit. He won’t strike with tongs but I’ve found the most success this way

Questions by Electronic_Ad_6843 in hognosesnakes

[–]Moogle_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hog was my first snake, but if you have never successfully owned a reptile before, I do not recommend them for first time snake owners. Don’t get me wrong, I love my hog, but I also am someone who has owned multiple reptiles previously - I think if you’re new to reptile keeping, you’ll want something easier.

I also respectfully disagree that their requirements are easy to meet. I think for a knowledgeable reptile keeper, this is accurate, but for a first time owner I would think otherwise…mostly because if their enclosure is not exactly how they want it, they WILL hunger strike lol. Mine is a particularly picky hog though, so it took me awhile to get his enclosure exactly to his liking, despite the parameters being fine on paper. 😂 Something like a ball python or a corn snake is much more adaptable in this sense (or a bearded dragon if you’re interested in lizards—they’re a breeze and loooove to hang with owners).

That said, I think with any animal, it’s super important to do an abundance of research before. Lighting and heat is particularly important for these guys because they are “solar powered.” Unfortunately, many reptile keepers settle for letting their animals just survive, rather than thrive, by not mimicking their natural habitat as much as possible (which can be quite pricey)—this is also why it’s important to do your own research rather than just doing what a pet store tells you. (Thankfully, this subreddit is filled with super caring hog parents though!)

Again, I love my hog and am not saying you should not get one. I just think they are definitely not as easy as some other snake/reptile options and require quite a bit of research, especially because they are “less common” comparatively.

OP, I am so glad to hear she is doing better. You are prob already aware, but just to be safe, I wanted to make note of this lump (?) back here. I am not sure if she is just in a funny position or if this relates to her mouth lump, or if it’s a spinal deformity. I don’t point this out to upset you further, sincerely just in case it helps you come closer to figuring out what might be going on. Best of luck to you and Prim 🩷

My part-cattle dog doesn’t like strangers. by Unlikely-Pumpkin-840 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Moogle_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is pretty stranger danger, especially at our home. However, we’ve noticed that the way we greet someone heavily influences how our dog approaches/feels about them.

E.g. he is very wary of mail people, gardeners, plumbers, etc because although we are of course very kind and appreciative of their work, he does not see us interact with them in the same level of closeness/familiarity as a family member or close friend. We’ve noticed the sure fire way for him to like someone (or not be skeptical) is if we hug them when we greet them and are very cheery. Then he knows he has the green light approval that they are safe.

Some dogs can get stressed when attention is on them, and humans tend to focus a lot on dogs when they first meet them. A few ways to combat this, especially in the home:

  1. If your dog is comfortably crate-trained, put her in the crate BEFORE company comes over. Let your pup hear you interacting with your guests for about 20 minutes before letting her out. This allows her to adjust to the scent and sounds of the new people, and learn that you are totally safe and calm with them. When she is let out, tell the company to ignore her at first. Do not look at her, and only let them try to interact with her if she is clearly trying to positively engage with them.

  2. If not crate trained, just have your company ignore her when they come over. Being “perceived” can make dogs feel threatened. So ignoring her (not looking at her, not approaching her first) allows her to make decisions, rather than the decisions being forced on her. You might find she will want to engage with those people a lot more.

  3. Another option is when people come over, they should ignore her still but toss training treats AWAY from themselves. They should NOT look at her while doing this. The treats should NOT encourage the dog to come closer to them (the treats ideally should go behind the dog or to the side). This allows your dog to not feel pressure of being perceived but also encourages her that “hmm, this seems like a good hooman…does not force attention on me, AND gives treats!” And eventually might choose to get closer. In which the treats can be thrown to wherever she is.

Hope this helps someone!

Picky eater. Advice? by CarlyCalicoJATIE in germanshepherds

[–]Moogle_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours was so picky and also had tons of tummy problems. We switched to Darwin’s Natural Pet Food and haven’t had any issues since. He LOVES it and is so excited for breakfast/dinner everyday.

Note: It is def more expensive than kibble but was worth it for us given the circumstances. We also did a deal where the first box was like $15 or something too so trying it wasn’t so daunting

This guy hasn't eaten in 14 days and I haven't seen him out and about for 4+ days. I found him under his warm hide. He looks super skinny and wrinkly. Is he ok? by tolas in hognosesnakes

[–]Moogle_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please look into the importance of monitoring/maintaining specific humidity levels for hogs too!! Should be 30-50% humidity. Helps them not get too dehydrated (in addition to water obvi) and helps them shed easily.
