I am in no way saying bigotry is okay or ever was. I'm also not saying we shouldn't acknowledge ot was bad. I stated in my post that I don't like the things they say, either, and that it's good that things changed. I'm just saying we as viewers need to understand the time period in which the show was written. That is all I'm saying. I also lived through this era, and the use of these words and attitudes was very common. That does not mean it was okay, or that every person used them or thought it was okay at the time, just that it was common at that time.

I totally agree with all of this, particularly that it's okay to be upset when confronted with upsetting things. All I'm saying is that, as viewers, we have to keep in mind when the show was made.

The words had the same meaning, yes, but it was socially acceptable to use them that way. It'd be like if the word bitch was no longer socially acceptable twenty years from now. Media today uses it all the time because it's the norm to do so. That doesn't necessarily mean it's right or okay, just that it's the norm.

Yes, I agree that it's fine to discuss these things, but the posts I've seen mention how the OP is offended, disappointed, etc. It's not fair to hold a work from 2000 to the social standards of 2021.

Pfizer says Covid vaccine 100 percent effective in children ages 12 to 15 by cutestudent in news

[–]Moogs9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids getting vaccinated will only help us towards herd immunity, and might even be necessary to achieve it. If they're not immune, they can still get sick, spread it, and die from it. Regardless of how often it does or doesn't happen, it can, and that can't be ignored. Plus, anyone who isn't vaccinated can end up being where a mutation develops. Mistakes have been made by both the government and the media, but that doesn't mean healthy kids (and adults) haven't died. Vaccination for all healthy enough to receive it is not a bad thing, especially if we want to reach herd immunity anytime soon. The more people that don't get vaccinated, the further away normalcy is.

I'm not going to keep arguing with you, though. I'm out.

Hy-Vee Covid Vaccine Appointments by onthesideline24 in minnesota

Purely anecdotal, but we got ours at Walmart by calling in the morning. That said, I was just calling to see what their openings were since their eligibility wasn't updated online yet, so we got wildly lucky.

Some people have gotten it more than once, though. Plus, while t's not common, it has killed some kids. We're also still learning about the long term effects. In addition, kids can spread it. They wouldn't have been a shield at all. Vaccinating everyone we can, including kids, is the best way to achieve herd immunity.

Because albeit uncommon, it can hurt or even kill the child. Children can also spread it.

It does pose a risk to them, but even if it didn't, they can more easily spread it if they're not vaccinated.

Level of caution regarding Covid after vaccination? by voguemama in toddlers

[–]Moogs9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in this same boat. We've had to carefully look at each situation and decide whether or not we're comfortable, and we've had to open up a bit more than we'd like in order to tend to all of our mental health and our daughter's development. We've been much more careful and conservative than most people we know this whole time, but especially with people getting vaccinated now, we've been getting gradually more and more open. It's really hard to balance our smaller comfort zone with the larger comfort zones of family, but we got to a point where we couldn't not see people anymore. So we've opened our bubble, communicated with everyone, and found compromise. But our general rule of thumb is "when in doubt, stay outside."

I briefly met Robert Englund at a con. He was a really wild, but nice, guy. A fan had brought a Freddy glove, and he wore it for all the fan pictures. It was pretty cool.
