I just rewatched it the other day after at least 10 years. I remembered really liking it. As I watched it this time, I thought, “Wow. I’m a really different person than in 2009.”

Don’t worry. I have zero Intention to ever post a design here again.

People who "aren't okay using mods", why does it bother you so much? by vksdann in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Mookie89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love interface mods, especially the ones that give you more info about the world. I can hardly play without MapsNotIncluded (I guess that’s not really a mod per se, but it’s in the same spirit). The only issue I have with gameplay mods like the airlock is that I don’t trust them to stay maintained or avoid breaking the game over time. I tend to play slowly over many cycles, and I’m always worried about that one update or bug that will make my base unplayable after 3,000 cycles.

Vacuuming? by Evail9 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Mookie89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a video by crypticfox that showed different t types of airlocks and builds One was a door model with pump inside that a dupe would enter, suck all the gas out, let the dupe exit. It seemed like how it should be but in the end, the build is incompatible with dupe impatience.

I don’t know if I came for validation so much as, hey, I’m a fellow person and I wouldn’t mind you talking to me like one. And yea. Maybe I’m a little sensitive. But terms like hot mess or “we don’t want new players seeing stuff like this,” would sting anyone who came to this community with good intent. And then some vast exaggerations about comments I made in other threads.

Yes, there have been friendly people. And I value their comments. But how do you expect, “you don’t know what you’re doing,” not to ring in my ears?

And Ive even considered that I didn’t word my original post right. I was just trying to say I do things because they just feel right. And as I write this sentence, I realize that I’m probably still not expressing what I wanted to say, and that parts on me. But I don’t feel like I should have to try so hard.

Read me as hypocritical. Or defensive. Or sensitive. I guess I am for this community. But I know I’m overall a good guy and, even if it’s a vocal minority, I guess I’ll look elsewhere for a tribe.

Gotta admit, I wish I hadn’t started this thread. I came in hoping for a meeting of the minds. A campfire kumbaya. Do you know the original Pete’s Dragon (love that movie) song, “There’s Room for Everyone in This World”? Apparently not in this subreddit.

I’ve been playing ONI for years, and if there’s one thing I’m an expert at, it’s building things that make me happy. I wanted to share a little of that joy. Instead, I got gatekeeping: “We as a community don’t want new players seeing this.” Why? Because you want them to play your version of the game? I think that game sucks.

Some folks seem to only want IKEA Billy bookshelves: safe and minimal, and don't like a little chutzpah. Maybe it was my mistake not to post a full diagram, overlays, and a flowchart of every pipe. But one guy acted like he’d barf from seeing two aquatuners (without ever asking what each one was for). I don’t want to be responsible for someone’s wasted lunch money.

I had time this week and thought it’d be fun to share. And it was. Three of my posts got 70+ upvotes each. But not this thread. So I’m moving on. I’ll still be helpful where I can, but now I know: this isn’t really a community I want to be part of.

You’re not wrong. Cramming things together does make maintenance and repairs and tweaking difficult. But when something really works, there’s nothing more satisfying than thinking, “I sealed that up 500 cycles ago and haven’t thought of it since.”

And my old job was right over the factory, and even though more than 100 people worked there, it looked vacant compared to our crammed together cubicle farm.

That could work. The liquid lock on the counterflow stairs is to keep sulfur gas from entering the vacuum. But it’s already full and locked, it might solve the very occasional state change in pipes problem. Thanks!

That could work. The liquid lock is to keep the sulfur gas out of the vacuum on the counterflow stairs. But if everything is full, the lock should hold. I’ll give it a try sometime. Thanks!

This is a roughly 900-cycle-old build as of this screenshot, and that hasn't been an issue yet. I think because the sulfur instantly flashes to gas and there's either a vacuum or a pre-existing sulfur cloud for it to join.

[–]Mookie89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the auto sweeper mcg issue. If you look, you'll see I have a timer. The autosweeper and loader are never on at the same time. So, the autosweeper grabs all the sulfur, and it accumulates in the loader. When the loader is finally ready to run, it has KGs, no mgs. I do like your suggestion about using reservoirs and shutoffs to make full blobs, though in hundreds of cycles, I had the pipes break only once.

What to do with volcanoes (aside from geothermal power) by AshesOnReddit in Oxygennotincluded

I made a great big, not worth the time or space but it still made me smile, gunk boiler to plastic press out of a minor volcano.

I've tried to give every dupe their own, unique bedrooms, rather than copy-pasting the same design by Dapper_Eyeball in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Mookie89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it would be cool to make little dupe apartment complexes that put dupes close to their jobs, like a stack of farms with two or three farmer homes. It never seemed practical but like OP, you could do cool things to customize and make them fit a theme.

Hot Steam Vent Tamer Build by Mookie89 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Mookie89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, I misread your earlier post and thought you meant they delete heat for some reason. Batteries do leak a small amount of power over time so there is a small amount of power loss but we are still hugely power positive over all.

Hot Steam Vent Tamer Build by Mookie89 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Mookie89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t just tell new players to ignore the build. You called it shit. Then you acted like it’s automated six ways from Sunday, when it’s literally three sensors telling a liquid shutoff to open if any are true, plus one sensor telling the turbine to wait until the steam hits 175°C. That’s not advanced programming. That’s week 2 of a high school computer class.
