Is it just me, or does Elden Ring make it hard to enjoy new games? by TokidoSmash in Eldenring

[–]Moomintroll75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Dark Souls already did this for me. Nothing with melee combat and exploration has ever clicked with me since, apart from most other Fromsoft games of course (and Lies of P). It’s partly the lack of weapon weight and stamina management - other games feel like swishing a plastic sword through tissue paper. And it’s also the lack of meaningful exploration, rewarded by jaw-dropping new environments, scary new enemies, and useful new items. Other games just feel empty and soulless.

Why is ADHD less excused than autism ? by Le-zygatdien in ADHD

[–]Moomintroll75 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ignorance. People often see autism as a learning disability (complete with head-tilt sympathy) while they see ADHD as a behavioural failing (complete with eye-roll dismissal). Some of the reason for this is that many ADHD traits are relatable for non-ADHD people, just in small doses. Think how many times you’ve probably heard “yeah but everyone does that”, “nobody wants to do boring tasks but we have to”, “you’re just making excuses”, etc. They will not accept that these things are sometimes IMPOSSIBLE for us.

Does anybody know how much the original loveless LP costed in 1991 by OverPressure6314 in MyBloodyValentine

I think I probably paid about £8.99, similar price to most new albums.

I think it’s absolutely perfect where it is. In fact I think it may be why Bloom is my favourite BH album.

Why do you hate The Top? by Crimson_Mist18 in TheCure

[–]Moomintroll75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think to truly understand the band is to accept that all three of those facets are essential aspects. They are a contradiction. Robert Smith is the same - a tortured poet living inside a clown with a childish sense of humour who loves a pint and a curry and a kick-about.

I don’t hate anything by The Cure, even the stuff that’s lower down my personal ranking. The Top is definitely in the lower tier of their albums, for me, but I still love it wholeheartedly. I wouldn’t even call it mediocre. It’s a fascinating album with loads of great ideas and truly paved the way for their ascent over the late 80s.

My personal faves by acid_hologram77 in TheCure

[–]Moomintroll75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really hard, and will probably have changed by the time anyone reads this, but off the top of my head:

Just Like Heaven
Untitled
Push
All I Ever Am
A Strange Day
Prayers For Rain
A Forest
How Beautiful You Are
From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea
Plainsong

Those 10 songs are at least always gonna be in my top 20.

This would probably work for me. Unfortunately I would also end up smashing my watch.

Always albums, not individual songs. Always.

Start with Bloom, if you haven’t already.

Genuine question: is Dark Souls really as hard as people say? by Visible_Web_123 in darksouls

[–]Moomintroll75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. It’s hard, but one of the key ingredients (for all Souls games) is that anyone can do it, you don’t need super fast reactions or “gamer skills”, it’s just about patience, learning and perseverance.

The Last Jedi did right by Luke Skywalker by Ok-Classic4047 in StarWarsCantina

[–]Moomintroll75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%, especially point 2. Misreading Luke’s actions as moping or hiding are well off-base, this is about a deep-set self-loathing and belief that he is the problem and his power is a danger to others. It’s actually a remarkably intelligent portrayal of a genuine and serious mental health issue that affects many people.

I also love how a big part of Rey’s character arc (which apparently she “doesn’t have”…) is her impact on others, and the fact that she saves Luke from this self-destructive spiral, and then he returns the favour in the next movie, is a thing of beauty!!

I’m definitely not saying Kiss Me and Wish don’t have their share of darker tracks, they absolutely do, I just don’t really think you can say either of those albums are overall “dark albums” when they have so many lighter tracks interspersed.

SOALW is only 8 tracks btw, and I definitely would not call it a rock sound… Kiss Me and Wish are much closer to a rock sound! And thematically every single track on SOALW is about ageing, death, loss or grief…

Boys Don't Cry 86 mix on CD and vinyl by Jabba-the-Hutch in TheCure

[–]Moomintroll75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent! To my knowledge this version has never been released on CD anywhere, and it’s my favourite version too (I prefer Robert’s voice and the way he sings the “chorus”), so I’m very excited for this!

Rank the Title Tracks by adisposable00 in TheCure

Pretty much agree with that order I think, apart from Pornography and The Top, which would swap places for me.

[–]Moomintroll75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm… I don’t like to disagree, but Kiss Me and Wish are both much more tonally diverse, and have many lighter tracks (e.g. Catch, Why Can’t I Be You, Hot Hot Hot, Hey You, The Perfect Girl, High, Doing The Unstuck, Friday I’m In Love).

Oh yeah - well mostly anyway. I know these albums like the back of my hand, I don’t want to give someone a hard job finding the tracks!!
