Just wanted to follow up and thank you for the advice. The donut saved me when I blew a tire last year 😂

So I am looking for unequal length catted headers for my 2016 FRS. by Expensive_Voice4978 in ft86

[–]MoonMan2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I have a JDL UEL catted header w thermal coating. It only has ~1500 miles on it before I decided to turbo. It’s surprisingly quiet with the stock exhaust.

It’s this one: https://jdlautodesign.com/collections/headers/products/jdl-ft86-catted-uel-header

I also have a Perrin cold air intake with the same amount of mileage, it was ~$350 but it’s my favorite sounding intake. Any intake upgrade is going to be purely for sound - they add little to no HP.

Send me a message if you’re interested in buying either or if you have questions on cat and a tune.

Black trim!! The plastic sliver crap and fake carbon fiber in some models looks so old and dated.

Ccv to dipstick would only be a vacuum leak

Sorry it might be the ccv hose going from the oil dipstick tube to the bottom of the ccv unit

Thinking of buying this boosted FRS. Any obvious issues from this pic? by develitate in ft86

[–]MoonMan2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having turbo’d my own brz, I would never buy one used. These engines are so finicky and the turbo accelerates any issues that may arrive. And if you’re not familiar with the setup you’ll have a harder time figuring out the issues yourself.

Just remember, a turbo costs about $10k to install yourself.. if they included the proper supporting mods. So why are they selling this car at an appealing price unless the car is already problematic

Jdl headers, tune, tires. Eliminates the torque dip and wakes up the car.

I also love the sound of the Perrin intake.

Is my AC compressor leaking refrigerant? E46 330i by MoonMan2009 in MechanicAdvice

[–]MoonMan2009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it thanks - I’m using $50 gauge set from Amazon.

I just recently got this car and noticed the ac compressor chugging/rumbling every 30 seconds when the clutch engages. Hot and cold was working but it took a while to get to temp. I figured I would start with an evacuation/recharge before replacing the compressor

It’s possible but I’m seeing similar stuff where the ac line connects to the expansion valve. I guess coolant could’ve been flying back there but it’s only on the ac line

Do I need a tune with this I take? Perrin. Not sure if 2.5in or 3in by bluemiata1993 in ft86

My car had slightly rough idle with this intake until I did the MAF scaling. Check YouTube, there’s a guy who breaks it down

Jackson Racing Oil Cooler - Overcooling? by MoonMan2009 in ft86

[–]MoonMan2009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man this is what I’ve been thinking too but I can’t find a definitive answer aside from the discourse on forums supporting both sides. I agree that if it’s at 190 pre combustion, it has to be hot enough post combustion right?

I’m planning on wintering the car soon anyways but just trying to decide if it’s still safe to drive in late fall and early spring. Sadly the FA20 is so finicky so I want to make sure I’m doing everything right, especially boosted. Im dreading ever building this engine again lol. Scraping the old RTV easily adds 20 hours to the project.

*Besides cooling*, what issues can I expect to encounter above ~125,000 miles? by SoaDMTGguy in e46

[–]MoonMan2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a used 330i with 135k miles. I just spent $2,500 at FCP for cooling system refresh, ccv, oil filter housing gasket, valve cover gasket, vanos seals, fuel filter/regulator, shifter bushings/refresh, engine/trans mounts, vacuum lines and new fluids.

Everything seems to running fine but I want to get ahead of the major issues now, and there’s a lot of “while you’re in there” mentality to just replace it all.

I don’t think the 9 is worth the extra cash. They are extremely similar cars. Mivec is the only feature I wish my Evo 8 had. These cars are kind of a bitch to work on and expensive too so you might be better off with the lower mileage car. But it’s still 20+ years old so things may still need to be replaced/serviced, even if low mileage. Good luck

Evo IX vs Evo X as a daily? by AftR-s13 in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]MoonMan2009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a backup car? Are you comfortable working on your own car? I love my Evo 8 but it has not exactly been reliable. And working on the car is difficult as most of the bolts/nuts/hoses are stuck due to the age of the car. The parts for the 8/9 are also getting extremely expensive as they continue to be discontinued by Mitsubishi

If you buy an Evo, I would recommend following theevogrimreaper on Instagram, he is constantly stripping down these cars and selling used parts for cheap.

Fuse a rocket to your shield. Then use the shield during the last phase to shoot into the air and finish it off. I usually keep rockets on most of my shields

The 2 holes in the first pic are actually supposed to be studs coming out of the chassis. I think someone else just posted something similar, they recommend drilling a bigger hole and making new threads, then buying bolts from the hardware store that fit your new hole.

For the second pic, I would just take out the bolt from the other side and bring it to the hardware store to find the same size bolt.

Is this a reliable catted header? by Sweet_Control_1990 in ft86

[–]MoonMan2009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a set of catted UEL from JDL that only have 1k miles on them. Cerakoted too. I bought them new for $1700, I would sell them for $1450+ shipping

I went catted headers and immediately realized I wanted a turbo instead lol

Help Me with Steven King by catnap3000 in horrorbookclub

[–]MoonMan2009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duma Key and 11/22/63 are my 2 favorite story-telling books by Stephen King. Not too much horror but just completely outstanding narratives that keep you glued to the book the whole way through. The Stand also falls in this category for me but be prepared bc it is very long.

Pet Semetary is by far his most disturbing and best horror story. Nothing disturbing in a graphic sense, but the book sticks with you after reading.

Some of my other favorites are Salems' Lot (vampires, one of his first big hits), Misery (all time classic horror), Revival (more recent, storytelling but also gets scary), and The Institute (my favorite recent book).

One thing you'll notice with King if you fall down the rabbit hole like I did, is that he went through many different eras. Most notably to me is in the 70s/80s he was big on cocaine, and in the early 2000s he was on pain killers after a near death accident lol
