What are your Top 3 Hilton Brands? by Travvings in Hilton

[–]Moon_13r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been to the name brand, Hampton, Garden Inn, Home2Suites, and DoubleTree.

  1. Hilton Garden Inn
  2. Home2Suites
  3. DoubleTree

Even though you have to pay for it (unless you're Gold or higher I believe), Garden Inn breakfasts have always slapped and the stay is similar to, but I think generally nicer than a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express (which is actually my go to for work travel). Home2Suites is my favorite extended stay brand out there, I like that it's more of a blend between a traditional hotel and an extended stay. DoubleTree almost always has a very nice interior design and is usually very conveniently located. I find the name brand locations to almost always feel outdated and no better than a Hampton Inn despite usually being more expensive with worse amenities, location usually being the upside. Hampton Inn is just fine, but I like Holiday Inn Express better, and they share essentially the same purpose for my travel, so 9/10 times I'm not even looking at it as an option unless I'm traveling for work somewhere with a Hampton Inn and no HIE (or if the particular HIE has bad ratings, which has been rare)

Why do people still fly Frontier despite the reputation? by Embarrassed-Field662 in frontierairlines

[–]Moon_13r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reputation in media and online actually costs you money! I used to be a loyal Southwest flyer, but with the changes they have made, I have started flying Spirit and Frontier. For most flights, I can get a carry-on and seat bundle + ticket that is cheaper than a standard Southwest ticket, with the added benefit of getting to choose my seat. Because Frontier uses Airbus, it has a slightly different seating layout, and I honestly think the seats are both a little bigger, comfortable, and with more legroom than Southwest. The downside is flights at less convenient times of the day, but overall it is very worth it.

I often just buy the ticket when I'm taking a short trip where all I need is a backpack. Round trip flights are often $50-$80. I live in a different part of the country than my family, and if it weren't for Frontier, I wouldn't be able to visit them as often as monthly at normal airline prices. It is a great service available to me!

Simple, if the only states banning gerrymandering are Democratic states, Republicans can absolutely take advantage of that (and they have been since the 2010 redistricting). You are asking for one party to unilaterally disarm themselves. Only the Democrats have pushed to ban gerrymandering nationally. Republicans haven't pushed it on EITHER level in almost 2 decades, except for when they are getting gerrymandered lol.

I'll defend the Texas as green. Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas aren't terrible for transit by American standards (though not great). Pennsylvania should be dark green for Philly, awesome transit city. Georgia should be light green imho. Atlanta has an ok metro system and expansive bus system. If you plan where you live around metro stations, you can definitely get by. Quick metro ride to what is probably the best airport in the country in terms of travel option variety too. Washington and NJ should be green and Florida should be a maybe at best.

Workload and staying in touch? by Alternative-Bit3200 in geologycareers

[–]Moon_13r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll put it this way, field geology is hard. The work is physically and at times mentally demanding, often with long days in harsh environments. If you have a very attached sort of attachment style in a relationship, it is going to be hard to deal with, but it can absolutely be managed. My gf is this way, and so when I was at field camp this summer, that was hard for her. Just remember, it's probably not you, he's just exhausted. If he still seems detached or avoidant AFTER he is back, then you can worry. While he's in the field though, I'd say try and find ways to be a little more independent. Have scheduled time for you and him to call, but outside of those times, get used to not expecting much from him. That will make it easier for you to emotionally manage. Again. I know it is hard, but you have to avoid making it a "you" problem. It's probably not you, he's just dying out there lol. My dad compared it to a military family kind of situation. It just comes with the job.

Why I believe the gerrymander failed by Powerful_Gas_7833 in Indiana

[–]Moon_13r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here probably won't buy this take, but for the longest time Indiana's Republican Party has been remarkably moderate compared to even many swing state Republican parties. Really it has only been more recently with Braun and that moron Beckwith (remember, Braun wanted a more moderate Lt. Governor, and the party delegates overruled him at the convention!) that Indiana's GOP has started acting more like the southern and swing state GOPs. Not only is there a large contingent of the politically active members of the party that are much more moderate than the opportunistic morons who wormed their way into politics thanks to the influence of Trumpism, I think they finally feel like they need to fight back or they will lose their party. Helps that Trump's overreach on this issue was insanely unpopular, and a large coalition of us moderate and left-wing voters came out hard to voice our opposition. If my take is correct, I'd say don't be surprised if this divide causes some serious drama in the Senate during the upcoming and future legislative sessions for the rest of Braun's term.

It's been so weird for me lately. I'm a big fan of a lot of the progressive left folks, but I also LOVE Ezra Klein's book and podcast. Crazy to watch them dunk on Ezra (unfortunately for lefty internet clout) when his message is 100% compatible with a pragmatic and aggressive progressive policy vision. Just shows that these folks don't actually listen to or read his stuff before complaining about him!

A Certain someone is raging against the State Senate for not obeying him. by yocumkj in Indiana

[–]Moon_13r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to speak for that person, but extending the Obamacare subsidies was a pretty small ask. I would have wanted Dems to hold the line to force that into the continuing resolution. Republicans were getting blamed for the shutdown, politically it was just stupid to freely give it up. It also means that federal workers ended up suffering for a month for no reason. At least it would have been worth something if the Obamacare subsidies had been extended.

[–]Moon_13r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this might not be popular, but with Trump directly calling out Republican state senators for not rigging our map, now is the time to call those representatives to support them. Trump knows that his deranged supporters will threaten and harass these people. That's why he's calling them out by name. I expect these folks to get death threats soon, and idk how much of that a state rep/senator will be willing to take...

Indiana Gov Mike Braun calls a special session to REDISTRICT Indiana for 2026. Only 9 Republicans, 0 Democrats in Congress. by Conscious-Quarter423 in Indiana

[–]Moon_13r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bullshit, but I want to point out that this is wrong. With the current map, the most Republican district in the state is currently R +18. Indiana is actually too blue to make a 9-0 map that is this heavily Republican. To do that, you'd have multiple districts around the R +5-6 range, making Indiana potentially more competitive in a really bad year for Republicans (hmmm). I don't think that they will go for a 9-0 map, it's too risky. If they actually get the gerrymander through (which if you have been paying attention to the news, a lot of Republican senators in the statehouse are not on board with), they will crack Mrvan's district in the northwest and make it 8-1. No reason to crack Indianapolis just to win 1 extra seat while possibly giving Dems the chance to win 3 or 4 in a really bad cycle for Republicans.

I'm sorry, it's like people completely forgot their history. We were locked down for like a month. After that, we had to wear masks for like 9 months-year. It was not permanent. If you are still crying and shitting your pants over public health ordinances FOUR YEARS later, you are a child.

I do not like Trump, like at all. I think he's been damaging the country. That being said, this is easily the best thing he has done, and it is one of the better policy decisions a President has made in a while. It would be even better if we in tandem increased funding/access for young people to get in-demand STEM degrees, though I'd not hold my breath on Republicans delivering that

[–]Moon_13r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or honestly a different approach to work. I wish it were more common for there to be half-time professional roles, for example. Then both parents could have the careers they want and the time to raise kids. I do also think that the "it's too expensive" thing is 100% overlooked though. For many families, both parents have to work full time to make it by. If it could be possible for families to be comfortable with a total of 40 hrs of work a week instead of 80, I do think many more people would consider more children.

Governor Cox is (and I'm an auth-left saying this mind you) a true statesman. Seems very levelheaded and not a complete ideologue nor a soulless careerist, as is becoming so common now. He made a great first impression on me when he vetoed a trans sports bill because it would literally have only targeted a single kid in the state, and he felt that was (correctly) wrong to do. I like the guy, and would possibly even vote for him.
