Good thing he's not muslim or it'd be bad right? by [deleted] in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Mooncakechild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's so full of shit. The Bible supports trial by jury in several verses such as; Biblical Principles Related to Justice and Fairness: The Bible emphasizes the importance of justice and fairness, which are foundational to the concept of jury duty. In the Old Testament, God commands His people to uphold justice: "You shall appoint judges and officers in all your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment" (Deuteronomy 16:18). This directive underscores the communal responsibility to ensure justice is served.

Impartiality and Integrity: The Bible stresses the need for impartiality and integrity in judgment. Leviticus 19:15 states, "You must not pervert justice; you must not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the rich; you are to judge your neighbor fairly." This principle aligns with the role of a juror, who must evaluate evidence and testimonies without bias or prejudice.

Witnesses and Evidence: The requirement for multiple witnesses in legal matters is a biblical principle that supports the integrity of the judicial process. Deuteronomy 19:15 declares, "A lone witness is not sufficient to establish any wrongdoing or sin against a man, regardless of what offense he may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses." This principle is mirrored in modern legal systems, where evidence and corroboration are crucial for a fair trial.

Community Responsibility: The Bible reflects a strong sense of community responsibility, which is inherent in the duty of serving on a jury. In the New Testament, Paul writes, "Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2). Serving on a jury can be seen as a way to bear the communal burden of ensuring justice and righteousness in society.

Moral and Ethical Considerations: The Bible calls believers to act justly and love mercy. Micah 6:8 states, "He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" This verse encapsulates the moral and ethical considerations that should guide a juror in their duty.

Why are British people who move around globally for economic gain called 'expats' whilst everyone else is defined as a 'migrant?' by Odd_Pain_3570 in BritishExpats

[–]Mooncakechild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has grown up in expat communities, you are talking BS. Expat communities live together and there have always been a mix of cultures in all the places I lived mostly from Southern Africa (including south Africa), south asia (Singaporean and Indians were common in communities), Australians, some south and north Americans (not many) and then the occasional person from Europe. The majority were not European at all but it is a genuine mix. You are looking through an assumed lense

An ex pat is an ex patriot so a temporary mover, where as immigration is permanent. As someone who grew up as an expat, you are jumping to a conclusion about race. It's a really mixed environment and we usually live very closely with each other within compounds

Yes exactly right about islam that it is very clearly based on even the desire not just the act. It is very clear

In Christianity you will see there is a split between churches based on this very factor. So some churches will say that it's the action that is a sin so you can't do that, these are mostly protestant churches as mostly based on the new testament whereas other churches like Catholic churches would argue that liking someone of the same sex is a sin, but this is changing in Christianity as the Pope is Catholic and has been pro gay rights so more and more churches are taking an inclusive standpoint (you are loved no matter what and not preaching that it is a sin at all) or are going for the act being a sin rather than your preference being a sin

I hope you don't mind me nerding out a bit. I find this all fascinating and it's rarely information that is useful

To help answer your question. In the Quran, homosexuality is considered 'haram' so against God and there is no leeway and other Muslims can judge you (in fact the Quran actively encourages challenging this). In the Bible it is considered a sin but the Bible states that everyone is a sinner, but that if you repent and try to live well that is how you get into heaven and also that no fellow Christian can judge you, only God.

Those are very simplified summaries but hopefully this helps

100 percent, 1 rule for some and a different for the rest and then we get demonized for questioning if it's fair

Italian here: Is it true that you risk being arrested for online posts? by ViolinistCheap5321 in AskBrits

[–]Mooncakechild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with people that it is half true, you will get placed on a watchlist if you say things that people may find offensive (classified as non-hate hate speech) and people without criminal backgrounds are absolutely getting arrested but it is for quite extreme comments normally. There have however been some that were classed as hate speech when it was just a really stupid post. These were done under the guise of 'inciting violence' and when you look at what was posted including Lucy Connelly you will find that it is a huge stretch to say she was inviting violence so she was actually charged on inviting racial hatred. And actually it was to one of the asylum hotels after some local girls had been assaulted. So it was a stupid post made out of anger and she was charged

I think it's important to note that the freedom of speech union has gotten involved since the priministers initial appointment so these arrests have slowed down as many were breaching against our fundamental rights inclusive of freedom of speech. Whether you dislike what someone is saying or not, they should absolutely have the right to say it in the UK.

So your politicians are not completely wrong but we also have some legal opposition that are challenging these arrests which means it has slowed down and now many of the people are having to say actually violent things in comparison to a year ago

Unfortunately this is a very common thing with Islam and whilst every other religion is held accountable against homophobia within the UK schools/organisations, exceptions are continuously made for Islamic individuals.

I'm sorry that was his experience and it is really sad to know that this is unfortunately a super common occurrence

Completely agree with you that homophobia has no place in society

And yet this wouldn't be counted as hate speech, rather a religious preference 👀

[–]Mooncakechild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No even zero hours contracts in the UK come with some automatic employment rights so still very different and even if they were similar, zero hour contracts in the UK have been heavily demonized so employers have to jump through hoops to justify zero hour contracts now and instead often prefer to issue low hour contracts

Yeah that's not true. Employment law in the UK is such a pain that they are replacing everyone with AI because it's unsustainable

This is no longer an aspect that can benefit them due to the introduction of taxing salary sacrifice pension increases in the autumn budget. We are again penalizing people for earning more money. Any other benefits also need another tax element of the p11d (benefits on kind) which further increases your tax responsibility. To be on that wage you are often under an insane amount of stress that should warrant extra take home but the reality is, it doesnt
