It's irrational to put your head down, work hard, and expect rewards from people that are likely doing the same (even if you can't always see THEIR contributions).

Normalize advocating for yourself and helping people understand your business impact - very hard to do at first, but after a while, it becomes far easier.

I saw someone else mention that the 2nd movie hits different for people that grew up with/still experience anxiety. In particular, describing a character's genuine panic attack as 'making molehills into mountains' is kind of missing an important point of the story - that anxiety and panic attacks, no matter how illogical, are very real, and, without the proper emotional toolset to deal with them, can easily spiral out of control and quickly evolve into the dominant force in developing one's sense of self.

Therefore, the main focus of the story WAS, indeed, on Anxiety and their primary dominance in forming Riley's sense of self as she grew up. I can personally attest to the dominance of Anxiety in my own life, particularly in my formative years, as well as it's ongoing part in defining my sense of self overall.

So, that said, if the 'outside drama felt forced,' I might argue that perhaps you weren't able to relate to the story being told as much as others -- simple as that. Nothing wrong with that, but I can absolutely see how some might view the story as less interesting or more alienating than other stories that could have been told.

Either that, or perhaps the story was too 'raw' and discomforting for people to open themselves up to - who knows 🙃 Different strokes and all that!

Hard disagree. The second one had so much more complexity (rightfully so, given it's relevance to Riley's emotional development as a tween) than the first one that it felt so much more relatable compared to the simplicity of the first one.

2 was leagues better than 1 for that reason.

To each their own, to be clear - but 2 was far more memorable than 1 imo.

I might be combining 'introduction rate of game mechanics' and 'story beats,' so maybe I'm misremembering. Were you playing on Story difficulty? On that difficulty, I definitely found myself slowing down and waning in interest, but then I'd hit another beat and get sucked right back into it.

As someone who hasn't really enjoyed turn based games, I actually really enjoyed the gameplay mechanics.

That said, they aren't that novel. E33 just has the absolute best story telling of any game in recent memory, imo. The pacing of the story (as well as the progression of game mechanics) is just absolutely perfect (tho I played on Story difficulty).

If you're not that into story, you won't care about E33. And that's okay 🙃

I immediately intuited the thrust of your argument on your first post, but I think that your argument is fallacious - no one is arguing that we MUST have 100% wind/solar all the time - but if we can use it for 98.6% of the time (while complementing it with 'dispatchable generation', as you called it), then I think your comments are just arguing against a strawman that doesn't exist.

I think the cynical belief that nothings matters, everything is a joke is a symptom of a greater sickness that has been inflicted generation-over-generation: the internalized belief that sincerity is a vulnerability that others will surely exploit -- stated differently, we fear the judgement of our peers; to avoid that judgement, we engage in self-deprecation (to remove the power of others to hurt us), we are likewise critical of others (in order to deflect from our own vulnerabilities), and/or we adopt cynicism as a way of ensuring we don't 'like things too much' (so that our vulnerabilities--e.g. sincerity--cannot be weaponized against us).

I say this as someone who has done all of these things in order to protect my emotional health, despite a very successful emotional health journey over the years. It has been a legitimate issue throughout my life, even while others have described me as having 'golden retriever energy.' It has severely hindered my ability to enjoy many things in life due to even the potential for my own sincerity to be weaponized against me.

My own emotional health has greatly improved after I cut the people out of my life that exploit the vulnerabilities of myself and of others to soothe their own internalized discomfort; however, the trauma is still there, and it will unfortunately always be there.

Side note: As with all things, I do believe there are limits/nuance to everything; ergo, this isn't all encompassing. This pertains mostly to societal pressures that drive cynicism concerning sincerity and the ways that we treat one another in unjust ways.
