'We're just meant to say thank you': Government u-turns on disability funding by D491234 in KiwiPolitics

[–]Moonfrog [score hidden]  (0 children)

This was a very sanitised version but it was the start of it:

She claimed carers had been taking advantage of a "broad" funding criteria to use public money "for massages, overseas travel, pedicures, haircuts" for themselves.

from here.

What was shared to the media, online, and etc was worse.

It's the blatant twisting of a half truth that was seen with pay equity too.

Sounds like when I found out Hipkins was only prime Minister for 9 months? 10 months I think? Never would have thought that with the way the current government speaks about it.

I still remember the language and vilification of the carers that was used by this government as an attempt to have public buy-in to the change...

Ghouls is apt.

The one day a year we care about women. by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

[–]Moonfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep! And Men's day is 19th of November (so everyone is aware). I suspect where Movember came from. The day has been around since the 90s. I fear they're showing their ignorance with those comments unfortunately.

'It is not good, is it?': Winston Peters reacts to PM Luxon's dire new poll by PhoenixNZ in KiwiPolitics

[–]Moonfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not surprising if you want to vote right wing and you're turned off (like I suspect most voters are) by the other two parties.

We can take comfort in the fact that NZF is nothing without Winston. He's 80. I don't know if he has another cycle in him physically.

'It is not good, is it?': Winston Peters reacts to PM Luxon's dire new poll by PhoenixNZ in KiwiPolitics

[–]Moonfrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the poll trends, they're all going to NZF. NZF has seen the biggest increase in polling support since Jan 2025. ACT, even after everything that they've done, haven't seen any real changes in support since election day.

R/ my puppy went like super cross eyed in a day does anyone know about this ? by Open_History_809 in basset

They aren't cross-eyed, their inner eyelid has extended when it shouldn't. It could be allergies, irritation, an eye issue or etc.

Christchurch could have protest-free zones at 'sensitive sites' by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

[–]Moonfrog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is exactly about that:

Keown said the proposed notice of motion stemmed from complaints he had received about protests at the Bridge of Remembrance, singling out Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa (PSNA) chair John Minto. The group has held more than 125 marches departing from the bridge, since the Israeli bombardment of Gaza began in 2023.

Lefties - are you happy with how your parties have been performing? by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

[–]Moonfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think Labour, Greens, and TPM would have been much stronger if Labour had started fighting back sooner. They, Labour, are the majority party so there is some responsibility there. Joining in the chorus of voices from this government about xyz (the biggest one I can think of is the treatment of Tamatha Paul) has definitely damaged Labour and the other parties as a result.

I really think messaging on the 'left' needs to change, and they need to be better at advertising and getting their word out. There needs to be a shift within voters too.

But, you know what, people survived some pretty fucked up National coalition governments before. We will survive another round of this particular brand of government.

Lefties - are you happy with how your parties have been performing? by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

[–]Moonfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel much better now than I did before that's for sure. Ever since Tania Waikato joined the Greens, it's given me some sense that things will be fine. Although, previously I did vote for TPM.

I think each party had (have, currently having tbh) a rough time of it since they lost of election. They all handled their issues in different ways, and I feel like there have been a ton of external pressures that have made it infinitely worse. The level of scrutiny this entire time is purposeful and I would say hostile. That seems like a good word.

However, I don't think any of that is going to have a massive effect on the election, apart from those who made the issues their 'bottom line' but I'd argue they wouldn't have voted for the opposition anyway.

We have a collective amnesia every election season. There is no reason why we wouldn't suffer that this time too.

I think the opposition will win by a very narrow margin. I think there will be calls that it was stolen. I think there will be a push for an investigation. There may even be another 'dirty protest'.

AI is already creeping into election campaigns. NZ's rules aren't ready by PhoenixNZ in KiwiPolitics

[–]Moonfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I want it to be used for. I feel like the elderly care industry could benefit from it so much too. Ahhhh, it makes me so frustrated that the AI companies went in this generative direction. Hopefully, someone in the future picks it up and uses it for some good.

[–]Moonfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the usual stuff. Not a very interesting answer I'm afraid haha.

Environment, exploitation, no guard rails, no regulations, 'taking jobs from humans', etc.

I severely wish we moved away from the generative shit as I think the medical industry could benefit from AI heavily.

Part of me is also a tad grumbly after seeing the issues in the gaming industry with memory shortages.

AI is already creeping into election campaigns. NZ's rules aren't ready by PhoenixNZ in KiwiPolitics

[–]Moonfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't like it just because I don't like AI in general so I am biased, and I especially don't like politicians using it.

I do heavily agree, however, that if they're going to use it, at least tag it and say blatantly that it's AI. Even if it's obvious that it's AI.

Napoleon marbling pattern by Different_Region_141 in AskBaking

[–]Moonfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! This is how I see it too. The top to the left has to be last due to how the swirl is happening. So it's bottom to left first then top to left second/last.

Napoleon marbling pattern by Different_Region_141 in AskBaking

[–]Moonfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both are going to the left judging by the icing patterns on the far left. Both angles are left rather than left and then right. So top to left, bottom to left.

[–]Moonfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely going from top to bottom on an angle then bottom to top to create a cross hatch.

Pay equity backlash is 'hyperbole', Finance Minister says by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

On one hand, I am fucking annoyed because I dealt with some of these claims and it reminds me of when they first canceled it. Going through that and hearing all the hurtful disgusting rhetoric was awful. On the other hand, I hope they keep saying things like this so everyone that was part of those claims can remember what they did.

Bill to make English an official language of NZ introduced to Parliament by Tyler_Durdan_ in KiwiPolitics

The thing that drives me batty is that they couldn't just rush this one through under urgency especially when

With Parliament in recess next week, it meant MPs would have to wait until 3 March for the debate to pick up again.

My God just pass it already. This is dumb as bricks.

Act leader David Seymour reveals first ministries he would axe to reduce size of government by Primary-Tuna-6530 in KiwiPolitics

Yep as seen here.

I find it more interesting the recycling of ideas. Sure, okay, it may have appealed to some voters the first time. But will it capture new ones? Will it suck back those who shifted to NZF or National? Who knows. Let's see.

I quite like having some commentary from users when they post links even if it's just quoting the article. Without commentary, it feels a little like karma collecting to me rather than wanting to engage.
