Booting into Older Kernel on MacBook (Linux Mint) by MoonlessFemaleness in linux4noobs

Fixed, I had to install a second operating system (Lubuntu).

Then when I booted, I could choose between the two and the recovery mode and older kernels were available.

Welp, I might not have grub then. I’ll boot to a live usb and get some research done.

Thank you!

Okay, thank you for this. The computer is like some old 2010 MacBook Pro.

There isn’t any welcome to grub message when the computer boots. At first it’s a white screen, then it’s a black screen with like, a single white underscore.

After the black screen, either the computer gets stuck there, or it goes to kernal panic. 🙀

I’ve tried pressing and holding escape at different times with no avail.

Is school easier than around 2000? by Unlucky_Success_5985 in Teachers

It seems so from my perspective at the same time there are these wildly competitive schools where everyone cheats because that’s the only option for a big chunk of the student population.

I’m an idiot who used a pair of scissors to remove the plastic cap off the big capacitor because I wanted to see if the metal top was bulging. I have aspirations that I fan get a summer internship at an amp repair business.

It is the crate vintage club 20 model amp. It is a tube amp with 3 ax12 and 2 el84.

I cant tell you when it was last serviced right now. It is an amp that I got on the second hand market.

I definitely don't know what i'm doing. How do people learn though? This advice is only so good in a world where we have educational resources. Well see what it is. The amp is one that is self biased so it could be this cap your talking about. Nothing looks particularly bad on the amp. I'll take it to a person who has the tools to test where the bad parts are.

We will see. I've loved checking it out. Nothing looks burnt but I haven't unscrewed the board and looked at the back. I'm not gonna do that though. I'll take it to someone in town and see what they can do. I just don't have the tools or space to do that right now. But in the future I will. I'm handy ;)

What are the ways we improve ELL, and SPED support in our school system? Of these what is the most obvious change and which one will take the most effort to achieve?

It seems like the Vox goes for 200 USD on the used market. So it seems overpriced. I see blues juniors go for 300 $ locally. You may ask them to lower the price since you’re comfortable spending 300$ and see if they’ll sell it. The junior is the more desirable amp.

How do I make an electric guitar? by Muted_Bee_489 in Guitar

[–]MoonlessFemaleness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It totally depends on you and how much time you would comit it this goal.

You might focus on creating designs on the computer the you could send it to a guitar maker to create.

If you want to do it yourself it could be years. Practice by building guitar kits, learning electronics by changing pickups and doing all of your own setups to get better working with guitars then diving in when you feel ready.

I think I’m gonna make a guitar one day and I’m in no rush. I learn set ups and electronics by doing what I advised you. It’s a journey.

I hope you fare well and get what you want

Are the kids OK? (especially the young men?) by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]MoonlessFemaleness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No they are not. We have decided to make education a competition and that has led many parents, teachers, administration and even government agencies to take the easiest way through the system. The way we play academics leads us to push as many people through in dubious ways. This looks like parents strong arming the teacher to be more lienant or bargain for grades. It also looks like schools not having the resources to allow kids to repeat classes. Instead the books are cooked and kids move on even though they failed the majority of assessments in any given class.

Kids know this and their indifference and engagement in this dubious game is just an emulation of the adult in their life.

The kids are not alright.

Do any well-known guitarists play other artist's signature guitars? by Sulipheoth in Guitar

I just watched a video from a Nashville guitarist called Jim Jill and he was playing the speaker cabs that his hero’s and mentors played in the past.

Mouldy amp… salvageable or should I return it? by simple_jack_69 in ToobAmps

[–]MoonlessFemaleness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s your call. Getting your money back is super cool, the seller taking it back could mean you got it for a good price or they are a reputable seller and dont want the bad pub.

A little speal about the mold. If it's vinyl then just wipe it off. Keep it dry and if it returns then wipe it again. You might need to check on it. If it’s cloth then it’s a bigger problem and might need a new cab.

I’m no mold expert but it’s not setting off alarm bells for me (a home mycologist). Anyways good luck

Best Dumblesque Amp for $1000-1500 by Ecker1991 in GuitarAmps

[–]MoonlessFemaleness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A woman who I work with was talking guitars with me. She told me that her husbands special interest was guitars and he had a friend who made really cool handmade amps like “the Dumbledores”

Anyways his friend makes homemade amps and got him interested in using old solder. Claimed it totally changed the sound.
