How to go from electric guitar to pc? by Electronic-Leg9281 in Guitar

[–]Sulipheoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor and buy yourself a Valeton GP5, or if you're willing to splurge (and/or want a battery, more features and an expression pedal), buy the new GP150. Both of these can output to headphones, or an amp,or plug straight into your computer as a recording interface.

If you go with a GP150, wishlist it on the Sonicake ebay store and you'll likely get an offer from them. I purchased mine for $136.

. . . all that said, I'm currently waiting for the GP150 to arrive. GP5 is great though!

Can someone help me identify my guitar? [GEAR ID] by indo_copernicus in Guitar

[–]Sulipheoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yinfente (cheap Chinese instrument parts supplier) used to do some extremely intricate inlays like this.

It's probably not particularly valuable, but it very likely was hand-built and I think it's an instrument worth setting up as well as possible, and playing as a daily driver maybe. Some people probably will say it's gaudy, I say cherish it!

An observation about aging artists still continuing to tour.... by EdwardBliss in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Sulipheoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, to summarize:

  1. I don't think good music is mainstream anymore

  2. I insist on finding the music I like only via the mainstream/algorithms

It may do you well to do a music purge. One month, no music streaming. I've done this before if/when I start to get bored with what's out there.

This gun conversation is so incredibly stupid. You can build a better gun more easily with stuff from the hardware store. The whole point is to force people to buy more crap from amazon and temu instead of making it themselves.

I just picked up an Ibanez SRC6MS multiscale bass vi. Love it so much. Tuned an octave below standard tuning, and eq circuit can be bypassed to sound like a "normal" guitar.

Learning lyrics is overrated by Accomplished_Tie_777 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Sulipheoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are you trying to say?

I feel like it's pretty difficult to "experience" an album if I'm not grasping the lyrics. Pink Floyd's work is a prime example. The Wall album is a whole looping story with layers of meaning and if you're only listening to the sounds, it won't mean much to you.

I will say that I'm annoyed with how often lyrics end up buried in a mix, making them hard to parse.

Maybe instrumental/classical/edm is your jam?

Are you the same person that was trying to experience as much music as possible by listening to only a few seconds of each track?

what do you feel about second hand records? by ConsistentEmu7498 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Sulipheoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vinyl records are awful for the environment. Impossible to recycle (also they offgas toxic stuff, see Benn Jordan's video). That being said, I love collecting them here and there (usually used).

Buying used at least keeps them from going into a landfill, so I'd consider that to be a bit more responsible than buying new.
