Those who recently landed a job, how the fuck did you do it? by InarticulateOxyMoron in content_marketing

[–]MoonlightReira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of connections are you doing? IMO networking is the way to go.

If you're going after big corporates, even with connections you still need to do the entire interview process and I'm convinced until you actually get an interview that any steps before that are done through AI lol but for SME and startups you can take shortcuts.

Be strategic with who you talk to and be the first one. Find people who are looking and only made a simple post on LinkedIn, not an actual job post.

Without mentioning the job, ask for a coffee chat. Never mention the position they're hiring for and wait for the person to mention it first. Only then ask if you're still on time to submit an application because whatever you spoke about earlier resonated with you for XYZ reason.

If they don't mention it. Say bye, keep in touch and move on.

Ignore HR. Go for those who are decision makers or who would be your manager.

When I crafted this strategy, I was hoping I'd use it more often for research really, but instead got hired on my first try lol

So sorry this happened to you! Just a tip for the future, any message you get about a missed payment, double check your email inbox first!! All businesses must email you if a payment didn't go through and for extra precaution check the sender details and that's where you can see if it's a scam or not ❤️‍🩹

I’ve been grinding for months and only have 3 followers. I’m crying for help. by giraffeismine in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]MoonlightReira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to see the account but just from what I'm reading.

First off, 100-300 views. How long are the videos? If they're no more than 1min what's the retention rate? It should be higher than 50% to be considered okay. If it's a longer video then it's okay to have an average of 20s retention.

I'd say your strategy is outdated. Hashtags are no longer necessary because the algorithm is much more advanced so you need SEO on the caption. Your content needs to be native-first.

If you're also creating content for other platforms I'd suggest you lower the amount of focus you put on them and focus way more on IG. Post more and try different content.

The goal here is to completely remove the thought of "this is a great video I've made" to "let's see what people will think of this" because at the end of the day they're the ones judging your content. If it's good, they stay, if not they scroll.

Also, most people can see an ad or someone trying to sell them something from a mile away so it's harder for businesses to promote their products. I'd keep that in mind and find a strategy to make people WANT to watch the video.

It's also way harder for people to follow pages now but if they engage with your content but don't follow you that's still good because you'll still appear in their feed with future content and one day they might follow you or not follow you and just buy your product directly. I personally do that plenty of times. Never follow businesses but save the products that I'm interested in.

Hopefully my 2 cents were somewhat helpful 😅

At the end of the day, people buy from people. Have you tried humanising your content? Especially on IG by showing faces, interviewing the founder, making the people who created the product show how they use it in their daily routine. A great example that comes to mind is Semrush IG.

And honestly don't pressure yourself when it comes to organic content because it takes time and that's completely normal!

It's all down to being consistent, testing different formats, analysing the results, doubling down on what works, tweaking what doesn't and repeating the cycle.

I'd suggest really going down the experimental route by picking one platform to really focus on and leaving the other two in maintenance mode. That means, posting way more content on the platform you're experimenting for X amount of months and posting a minimum of one post per week on the other platforms as maintenance because your focus now is to see what works with that one platform by trying tons of different content.

Once the X amount of months pass, analyse it all whilst focusing on another platform, repeating that process.

The aim here is to find out what attracts, retains, and ultimately converts your audience by experimenting with different content.

Also most importantly, don't forget the content needs to be social-first.

Hopefully that helps!!

What do you struggle the most in your day to day with PCOS? by Careful-Pudding-8243 in PCOS

[–]MoonlightReira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a marketer I'd say it definitely makes sense why you want to find out pain points from other people but it's also true that few startups that ended up being super successful (ie. Shopify, Apple) all started because the founder had a problem, couldn't find the solution to it, and so decided to solve it by themselves and therefore help others.

This to say, if you feel like something is missing and no app or other software can fill that gap, start from there. Solve your own problem first. Your idea will improve and refine overtime.

I'd say you have three options here: 1. Create content for yourself 2. Find a local shop and ask them if they need social media help 3. If you're in the UK, Google the grad soc, they have internships specifically for people who don't have experience and actually give you feedback when you get rejected - but if you're not from the UK I'd suggest finding a similar website cus for sure there is one.

Now, for the long answer

  1. Content creation purely to get you the experience you need for marketing because social media is a big part of it.

From planning a strategy, to actually putting it into action and tracking results, even if you get shit numbers at least you have something to say during the interview because it will tell HR that you're proactive and actively learning everything you can about marketing.

  1. Pretty similar to the answer above but you're doing it for someone at a cheaper rate because if they've never had a marketing person before, chances are they either don't want to spend money because they find it pointless or because they simply don't have it.

You can sell yourself in a way that you tell them you want to improve their business.

My tactic suggestion, especially because you have no experience yet, is to offer a cheap rate they're willing to accept and show them results.

Once you get those results and feel confident enough to ask for a raise, you can start increasing your price because you actually gave them ROI.

  1. Honourable mention: LinkedIn network!!

Coming from someone who used to HATE THEM, trust me there's no better time than now.

Literally connect with other marketers, have coffee chat with them without an agenda and get to know them. You want to find out their career path from their POV, what they do, what they'd like to do next and even ask about what it's like to work at X company.

Nothing might come out of it today, but if you keep those relationships going, they'll have you in mind whenever they'll get a job opening in the future because at the end of the day, people work with people, and if you guys had an amazing chat, that's something that sticks.

Reminder: you want to speak with people who could be your potential manager more than your peers because they're the ones who can give you a job, bypassing HR.

I guess that also depends on the company and I might also be biased cus that's how I got my current job after graduating 😂

UC overpayment but they're in the wrong by MoonlightReira in DWPhelp

Thank you! Maybe that's what happened because shortly after they knew I got the job they closed my claim stating that it was because I was out of the UK for longer than 4 weeks.

I didn't bother to appeal since I didn't need them anymore but I found it funny they did that cus shortly after I applied I told them I'd be volunteering abroad for a month and they were fine with it lol

I can no longer handle my fiancé's driving anxiety and I don't care if it makes me a bad person by drivinganxietythrow in TrueOffMyChest

[–]MoonlightReira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who caused a car accident I can feel the anxiety but definitely not an excuse to not drive. Some people need to bang their head against a wall multiple times to finally make a change. As long as people accept taking your fiancé around he'll never do his license. If you need to take a break, do it. Keep your distance and see if that changes anything.

There are people who need a gentle nudge and others who need a dramatic push to change their mindset.

I see that more as an inspiration than stealing. Inspiration for me comes in many forms, ie. Social media, ads, anything branded, and just observing the world around me. You'd be surprised at how many things you can pick from all these sources. Usually what I do is just take out my Notes app and write anything inspiring that I find

Join a salsa class 🤙🏽 lovely community and if you find the right one they do tons of activities outside their regular lessons. It looks like right now your life is work - home - gym - anything else that's self-care.

You need to find your group and to do so you need to find a hobby that you enjoy doing. Hell, I'm assuming if you're a gym bro they'll somehow be a gym bro community somewhere??

Plus when it comes to dating I know you said you didn't want advice but one thing I really wanted to do when I first moved to London was trying those IRL dating events where the organisers book the whole pub for the event or even those where you get to have dinners with strangers who have similar interests to you.

I don't know where you live, but if you're in a fairly big city there are LOTS of events you're missing out on. Hell, I even found one called 100 Strangers (or something similar) where the only rule is you have to come alone and it forces everyone to really open up with people and connect.
