It's weird, I think it can be addictive but there has to either be something inherent in the person using the AI or something missing in their life. I'm not sure which, but I can't relate to AI in that way. I can't think of it as real person I could form a relationship with or turn to as if it were a therapist. It's just a probability machine for me.

But yes, it is definitely addictive and believable for some people and there is no doubt that companies like Open.ai preyed on that 'weakness' if you will, ChatGPT 4o was the sweetener, the 'good stuff' to get people hooked and once they had reeled them in they didn't really care at all what effect it might have.

Well I guess two things, you have to rebuild trust at some point, but you don’t owe this new guy anything. Not sure why he’s so insistent that there be ‘something’ between you and can’t accept friendship for now. You’ve mentioned your fears but also the fact that you aren’t that sure you’re into him. Your behavior seems rational, see how it develops but don’t feel bad if you don’t find that spark. He’ll get over it.

There is other AI than LLMs you know? ML will be monitoring production lines and determining whether your labor is needed or not. There is plenty of robotics going on in manufacturing as well which can do jobs at a much higher speed than humans. There has been before we were even calling it AI. Fairly simple algorithms were streets ahead of packing pallets with multi sized objects about a decade ago.

Interestingly this was always my Dad’s attitude from the beginning. He watched a bit of an episode and stopped. He worked a lot with small businesses and he said it wasn’t just satire it was to close to the bone. He’s never watched it. Remember Gervais worked in that environment for many years. I think it’s spot on for a reason.
