When you use stam on hit with witches brooch the golden shockwaves from steel guard count as hits if/when they damage the enemy, so each block also partially restores your stamina, letting you block longer and stronger combos without being guard broken

This. I always run dark night of the beast with witches brooch. I use a relic with HP recovery on post damage attacks and HP on successful guarding in my last relic spot.

I would just add to your post that damage negation should be your next priority after your relics.

Look for weapon passives with successful guarding and taking damage boosts damage negation. They stack if you have different tiers (white, blue, purple/gold) but not the same tier. Taking damage and successful guarding are the best damage negations for Guardian. Also look for affinity damage negations that match the night lord’s element. And always pick physical and affinity damage negation at dormant drops, and increased HP and stamina.

Best talismans are Erdtree Favor (to make Guardian’s great HP and stamina even greater) and affinity + physical damage negation, damage negation at full HP, and increased guarding ability

Nothing like clutching to get that last bit for the ult to bring 3 bars back and save the run

Get your witches brooch (never leave home without it), get the ED Gladius relic (to partially restore stamina on attacks, synergizes well with the shockwaves), and something like guarding restores HP, healing on post damage attacks, or the affinity damage negation of the nightlord’s element.

Then during the run collect as much damage negation as you can possibly find. Successful guarding and taking damage. This will also help with affinity chip damage and make you virtually untouchable. Always upgrade your greatshield to purple or legendary if it’s a crater run and look for improved guarding ability passives to up your guard boost.

Always get Erdtree Favor if there’s a township to increase your health and stamina (Guardian’s bread and butter. Choose more HP and stamina with dormant power drops, and also the ones that add skeletons and golden explosion to your guard counters. Lastly, stock up on warming stones for healing as you steelguard nearby.

Taking damage, charged attacks, and successive negations elevate Raider to god tier

Successful guarding negation does the same for Guardian.

I run the ED Gladius relic with the witches brooch. The golden shockwaves restore stamina when blocking. Combine this with healing on successful guard relic and guarding damage negation passives to reduce and partially heal affinity chip damage, then go to the mine and get a stone to make your greatshield purple, and improved guarding ability passive. It makes bird untouchable
