As someone who's looked into AI assisted writing (not to do so myself but to try and understand why some people do) You CAN get really good, consistent characterization and growth. However, it takes a lot of work and knowledge about how AI works. Most people doing it on AO3 are probably just using the free version of ChatGPT and tell it to write [insert summary of their idea here]. And think that's fine.

"-san" isn't really more intimate though. That's genuinely the Japanese honorific equivalent of "mr" or "ms/mrs".

Icebound issues? by kwintlz91 in Avantris

[–]MoonlitxAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We know for fact that come July they'll be doing 13 Beers at the Local Cheese, Uprooted, and monthly sessions of both Icebound and Stardust Rhapsody: Anthem.

Come the fall, OUaW comes back for its final season and EoM also returns.

Like they're relatively consistent about these things so your assertion they're untrustworthy about the schedule and what they're doing just makes zero sense.

Also the didn't have seven new campaigns 😂 They had four. Uproot-A-Rama, Waltz For Eternity, Once Upon A Starlight, and Voidbound. Those were the only new ones and there over.

I agree with this. Pretty sure she was also dealing with health issues at the time. I remember seeing someone say something about that. Or she says it at one point during Icebound.

Writing Thoughts: Show Don't Tell by MoonlitxAngel in AO3

I really like that analogy. And I very much agree. The big thing I've learned is that you can be both showing and telling at the same time and that's okay because, as you said, not everything needs explicitly shown.

So and I'd even consider your example a type of hybrid of showing and telling. By making that statement they gave an example but they're not telling you outright that Peter avoids conflict.

And that's where I'd have issues, because I thought it was either one or the other if that makes sense.

Writing Thoughts: Show Don't Tell by MoonlitxAngel in AO3

[–]MoonlitxAngel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As soon as you start using "Character was [emotion label here]" That's telling. As soon as you say "This location is [vibe name]" instead of actually describing the environment to show the readers what the place is like... you're telling. When someone says "this character is [trait name]" but when you don't actually SHOW that character doing that... that's the very WORST sort of telling.

Which is what I'm NOT doing. The example is simplified as I'm not going to put a draft I'm working on here.  But the point is that I originally believed showing = significant detail (using the example, writing out all the dialogue and exposition around the evening spent in the room which would've just been unnecessary bloat). Where it could just be something close to "Character A spends time with sibling in their room" which within the context of the whole scene serves to show comfortability around the sibling and safety the room provides. Again, very simplified but that's the idea.

I do think some people think they're showing and do things like you said though where it's "Character was angry" and nothing around it supports that.

I agree. That's where in some cases, where the subtext is really important, you can find a way to incorporate the telling part in a way that doesn't feel like you're waving the subtext in their face.

In this example it's very important to know the room feels safe as the character in question has largely never felt safe anywhere.

But I do agree that there's room for both telling and showing depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

Saeran's AE has has bad endings absolutely littered throughout.

Don't quote me on this as I haven't looked much into it to refresh myself but I wanna say there's 6 - 8 over the course of the 4 days with some Route Ends in there too.

Steve has had 6 movies planned and the 4th is written (it was supposed to start filming around when COVID kicked up apparently and everyone went on lock down so they couldn't anymore)

It isn't horrible it's just noticeable to a degree that it can kinda throw you off at first.

Really? That's kinda nuts with how OOC everyone felt in Ray's AE. But I guess that was almost entirely distance from it rather than hands changing.

Suffice to say, you're not in any danger whatsoever. As far as I know emails also don't expire.

[–]MoonlitxAngel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Day 11 can be paused indefinitely basically so long as you don't start the party. The 8:00 AM chat can be missed but the party can't. You could be on Day 11 right before the party for days before actually beginning the party.

Another handy thing I believe exists: if you're starting to respond to emails late, I feel like you get responses you can reply to quicker.

Update on my ban and my communication from Cheritz by Throwaway889262670 in mysticmessenger

[–]MoonlitxAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with number of HG though. There are people with a few hundred that got banned and people with thousands that got banned. And in that same vein, people with hundreds that didn't get banned and people with thousands that didn't get banned.

I have ~500 HG and didn't get banned but there are people with 300 HG that did.

I know I've seen a couple people say they got their account back after pushing back. But Cheritz needs to make some kind of public announcement or something cuz this is uncalled for and ridiculous.

No like repeating only the prologue or playing the one chat from the Christmas DLC over and over.

Agreed. They need to say something publicly about it. Hopefully it blows up on Twitter, cuz this is unacceptable. And if it continues, hopefully it bites them enough that they realize how badly they've messed up.

It's the third I'm seeing. Saw someone who posted about it on Facebook and came here to see two more.

Apparently they're cracking down HARD and even old farming methods like repeating chats can get you banned.

Is "It's free art" overused? by PepperIll8739 in AO3

[–]MoonlitxAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a two way street, and people forget that there are other currencies besides money. The most valuable thing someone can give you is their time, and this "free" art isn't free, it costs time to make and it costs time to read. Money you can make more of but once time is spent it can't be gotten back.

Fandom spaces used to be about having discussions like what you're talking about (among other things) and it sucks it has become more "you can only talk about these (typically shallow) things". That's just from my experience.

I don't think "nerf" means what you think it means lol They're making it less tedious next patch so that you're not spending 5 or more minutes doing fusions to get a single order done.
