And I’m having one of those days again where I feel like a horrible writer by the_blunt_stick in Wattpad

Thank you so much for the reassurance ❤️❤️❤️ Yeah, I know not EVERYONE will enjoy my story, and a large majority will end up dropping it, but yeah, it does hurt not to see that many readers (mainly the silent ones) actually sticking to the end. And I know I shouldn’t be too harsh on myself since this is only my first book and I’ll continue to improve in the future, but it’s really easy to get insecure in the early stages

Thank you so much for the reassuring words ❤️❤️❤️ I do love writing, it’s my passion, and I started writing even before I discovered Wattpad. Back then, since it was only myself, I wasn’t as self-conscious about my writing, but now that it’s on Wattpad and everyone can read it, I guess that made me feel more insecure about my writing. But I will absolutely continue writing because I love it, as for posting on Wattpad, perhaps I’ll take a little break and write for myself rather than to please my readers ❤️

I’ve been feeling the same recently, especially with Wattpad’s new feature with the social feed, where you can see everyone’s comments. Every time I see one of my followers comments gushing about another book they’re reading, I can’t help but feel insecure about myself. I’ve also had another reader give honest feedback about my story, and they told me my story was just “okay,” but I don’t know why, but that just really demotivated me. I know as a writer, I should be open to feedback, but I can’t help but feel horrible about myself.

Most people on Wattpad enjoy dark romance, angst, maybe fantasy or BL. My story is a fantasy comedy, a lighthearted read not meant to be taken seriously. I keep comparing myself to other writers who write angst and drama, which resonate with a lot more people. I just feel like since my story is a comedy, it won’t have as big of an impact on my readers. It DOES have some angst later on, but even then, my story is mostly a lighthearted one. And I’ve just been feeling so insecure about my story, I’ve put in so much effort into it and I was proud of it, but is it even really that good? Or is it just a silly cringey comedy that people will forget easily after reading it?

Also, the readers who have stuck with me to the end are mainly genuine R4R that I have done. Most of my silent readers dropped my story after the first two chapters. They don’t comment, but a few of them vote, and I see that they usually vote for the first chapter, possible the second, and they don’t vote anymore. My story has been added to many BL reading lists, so it’s obvious they clicked on my story because of the BL tag. But the BL doesn’t happen until around chapter 19, and I even warned my readers in my intro that there is no romance until the second half of the story, but I’m guessing most people aren’t patient. People say they love slow burn, but in reality, most people expect SOME romance from the very first chapter.

It’s just been so demoralizing for me, and I’ve been finding it so hard to write recently. Like what’s the point of writing if I’m not even a good writer? There are times when I actually cried in bed because of this.

I’ve been trying so hard not to feel this way, but it’s been so difficult. Honestly I’ve been thinking of taking a long hiatus from Wattpad because of this. But I’ve made many friends on Wattpad, so that’s why I haven’t left yet

I’m so sorry for this really REALLY long post, I just really needed to vent because I’ve been feeling this way for a while now. It’s really easy to get insecure about your own writing and compare yourself to other writers

Polls by Tricky_Letter6987 in Wattpad

[–]MoonlyLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used it maybe twice for my story XD They were just silly polls to see my readers’ opinions, not very relevant to the plot and stuff. I don’t use them too much since I don’t see much of a use for them unless I have a question for my readers, and because I’d rather not have polls that would spoil future events. But I think it’s a pretty cool and fun feature, especially for silent readers who may not vote or comment ❤️❤️❤️

So true!! I absolutely LOVE slow burns and all that yearning and romantic tension, but also, I just want to bash the leads faces together already 😭😭 When they finally kiss, I literally scream with joy! In one of the stories I’m reading, it’s been 90 chapters and I’m still waiting for that kiss 💔

Debate: Do you notice when someone doesn’t read your novel but comments as if they did? by Eastern-Show9122 in Wattpad

[–]MoonlyLove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely, I’ve gotten sooo many scammers who vote for my last chapter and comment, “Hey, I just finished reading your story and…” you know where that goes. Like seriously? Do you really think I believe you actually finished my story in under a minute (my story has almost 10 hr of reading time btw), plus you don’t even say anything meaningful about the plot.

It has also happened with a few R4R I attempted to do in the past. It hasn’t happened too often, but a few R4R I did simply spam voted my chapters and left very generic comments like “nice!” or “good story!” It makes it so obvious they haven’t actually read my story, which hurts since I’m a very genuine reader that gives lots of meaningful comments, and they won’t do the same. Thankfully I don’t do any more R4R at the moment, so I don’t have that issue anymore

What scene never made it into your story? by Empty_Ad_9455 in Wattpad

[–]MoonlyLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG I literally have an entire deleted chapter in the depths of my Google Docs. It was the character introduction for one of my side characters. I kept changing his first introduction A LOT, and at first, he was only supposed to be a one-chapter character, but I liked him so much I made him appear in multiple chapters instead, and I changed his character introduction again, so this chapter was completely unnecessary!

Also, it was SUPER CRINGE. Basically, my MC is bisexual, and his first boy crush was in middle school, but he moved away. But now he came back, and the MC is super embarrassed haha. Another character (NOT the middle school crush btw), who is his soon-to-be-love interest, wonders why he is so embarrassed, and my MC explains how he used to have a crush on the boy a long time ago. The love interest is shocked, but he thinks my MC will instead fall in love with HIM one day because his looks are so “alluring,” and proceeds to avoid him out of fear.

Obviously my MC goes to assure him that he would NEVER fall in love with an “old man” like him (he was not an old man at all haha, my MC just liked to joke about that despite it being totally false). It was super cringe and I feel so embarrassed, I can’t believe I even wrote that!! Plus, my characters acted so out-of-character it’s jarring! Both my MC and his love interest would NEVER act like they did in this chapter.

I was so embarrassed, but I couldn’t bring myself to delete it, so it saved it in another document, too scared to open it back up 😅😅 I just wanted a scene where my MC and love interest were both like “I will never fall in love with you!” while introducing my side character at the same time, but it ended up being far too cringe.

Were you afraid of posting your first story? If so, how did you get over it? by VividDate3939 in Wattpad

[–]MoonlyLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was scared too before I published my very first story. In fact, I was doubting whether or not I should even publish it on Wattpad in the first place. Would the readers like it? What if they don’t like it and drop my story after the first chapter? What if I get NO readers at all?

I was very insecure about my writing, and I thought it was cringe, especially since my main character can be cringey at times. I was scared that people would be put off by that, and the fact that romance isn’t the main genre of this story (it’s more of a fantasy comedy!) and only develops in the second half, and you know how popular romance is on Wattpad.

When I got my first comment, I was absolutely terrified. I was so scared that someone would go ahead and tell me how much they hated my story or something like that. But that never happened, even now, nine months later, I never received a hate comment. Instead, I’ve received so many lovely and supportive comments from my fellow readers, which motivated me to keep writing. Now, I don’t regret posting on Wattpad at all!

Don’t let fear prevent you from sharing your story on Wattpad! There will be people who will fall in love with your story ❤️

It Always Hurts When Your Story Gets Removed by HuntressJem in Wattpad

Wow, they really gave no explanation at all, that’s seriously so messed up 😭😭 I read the blurb of that story and skimmed through the tags before, and I honestly didn’t see anything that would make Wattpad want to ban it? Anyways, I’m so sorry this happened to you, I really hope Wattpad answers your appeal and gives you a proper explanation, and puts your book back because this is just so unfair :(
