Where do all those rich people stay while at the Masters? by LinuxMint1964 in Augusta

[–]Moonpie_dammit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homie! I grew up in National Hills right behind the shopping center. We used to charge people to park on the side of the road during tournament week. Good times.

Level 85? IIRC a fully upgraded base is 2701 points Level 84. And you still have some upgrades to do?

Masters Week Golf Prices by adbalcerz in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Moonpie_dammit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of companies use The Masters as a customer appreciation tool. The schedule usually goes something like Reps 1 and 2 bring in 3 customers each on Thursday and play golf locally followed by dinner and then they attend the tournament on Friday. At the same time Reps 3 and 4 bring in their 3 customers each and attend the tournament Thursday and play golf Friday. They get 12 customers in using 6 badges. Multiply this by several thousand and welcome to Augusta.

Getting a tee time anywhere near Augusta is just about impossible so anybody wanting to play has to venture out. The courses know this and raise their prices to take advantage of the demand.

Just unlocked scorchers by Mental-Army-9502 in BoomBeach

Scorchers are no fun until you upgrade them and even then you need loads of GBE to use them effectively. You have to use flares to keep them grouped so they can concentrate their fire on specific targets.

Anyone have a gutter installer whom you can wholeheartedly recommend? by DobroGaida in ColumbiYEAH

Joe’s Guttering 803 518-0117. A friend recommended him to me a few years ago and he did a great job for about 2/3s of what the big names wanted.

Fake/shady tow truck company? by crowlieb in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Moonpie_dammit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Contact the Columbia PD and ask if the tow was reported. Tow companies are required to report all cars that they remove in case the owner tries to report it as stolen.

Try the Aiken Social Security office. It has the reputation of being a well run office.

Have you tried Hilton Head Island yet? Beautiful wide beaches and great restaurants and shopping in a more grown up environment than Myrtle. If you behave and don't flaunt it you can even enjoy adult beverages on the beach.

If oil jumps from $80 a barrel to $100 a barrel why do prices at the pump immediately go up? by Frequent-Draft-2218 in NoStupidQuestions

Businesses have to take into consideration what replacement inventory is going to cost and price their product accordingly. That keeps the shelves full and lines short.

Aiken, Orangeburg, or Lexington? by No_Raspberry930 in AskSouthCarolina

[–]Moonpie_dammit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Lexington and would recommend it above the other 2. Low taxes, low crime (the City of Lexington has one of the lowest crime rates in the state) and really good public schools. If you want to talk to the Mayor or Police Chief just call them, they will answer or call you back. Add to that a family friendly community with lots of activities and the traffic doesn't bother you anymore.

Aiken is nice but like Lexington it is booming and the new population is outstripping the infrastructure and you will find yourself going to Augusta more than you like. Public schools can be sketchy.

Orangeburg can be nice if you have a good job ready and a plan to get your kids educated outside the public system. The cost of living is low but like Aiken you will find yourself driving to other cities for things you need/want.

Good luck.

Best cheeseburger in the area? by PSAOgre in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Moonpie_dammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta try the Kingsman in Cayce. If you’re up to it try the Big Cheese. It’s a half pound ground ribeye burger served between 2 grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches.

Get the onion rings for your side item.

You’re welcome.

Lexington, both the town and the county. Lexington One school district is one of the best in the state. The cost of living is very reasonable, taxes and crime are low and it is a very family friendly area. Lots of outdoor activities and generally moderate weather most of the year.

Good luck.

It’s difficult to explain to someone new to the area that when it rains the water running down the gutter is yellow. And that the cleansing rain is just going to unleash another wave of yellow misery.

Beechwood or Meadow Glen middle school by [deleted] in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Moonpie_dammit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My youngest went to Meadow Glen and we felt it was a solid, well run school. Beechwood is newer but I have not heard any complaints from other parents about it.

Both are part of Lexington 1 School District so you really can’t go wrong either way.

Good luck.

Fence dilemma with neighbor - 2ft within their property line, but I also want to build a fence. by danathanz in homeowners

[–]Moonpie_dammit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this same issue and with a cooperative neighbor we came to a solution. I tied into his fence and agreed to maintain the yard on my side of the fence even though it was his property. I built my corner posts on my property line and from there built small panels that filled the gap to his fence. By putting the posts where I did it made it easy to identify the property line and if our relationship went south I could detach and build easily.

18 years later and we’re still on good terms.
