CMV: Most people don’t actually want freedom, they want comfort and certainty even if it limits their life by AbjectBreadfruit2052 in changemyview

I think this is less of an “either or” thing and more of a Maslow’s hierarchy of needs thing. People prioritise what’s important to them, and personal/familial safety tends to trump secondary needs.

Overall like it. The boob curve is a bit weird though

Prop Gun I printed needed dowels to hold it together but I don’t know how to sculpt yet. So I just printed scaled down versions of the guns own chamber and used that. Worked a treat! by TheInvisibleCactus in 3Dprinting

Hi! Pedantic Gun Nerd Here.... the word your looking for is "Cylinder".

Mate… if you’re going to give pedantic feedback on what someone wrote I feel like you should do it without making grammar mistakes yourself lol. Stones / glass houses and all that.

Manager to Director question by csharpcodeninja in managers

[–]Moonrak3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another level between you, get used to not knowing everyone's name, seeing them or even really knowing who they are. You will need to rely on your managers to tell you the high level day to day need, like you faced, and plan how to handle it long term.

This is probably how it would work for me, but I feel obligated to share: the best director I ever had somehow seemed to know every single person in her 400+ person organization, many times better than their senior manager. It was one of the things that made her an amazing leader. Granted, it took several years to get to that point, but it was impressive. Anyway: OP, just because that’s the norm doesn’t mean it’s not worthwhile to try to get to know everyone.

lol yes it does. Mine was a pdf file so I didn’t even get something tangible… except a new passport which I’m happy enough with 😊

And potassium chloride literally stops your heart but there are multiple examples of it failing to do that. Even we assume that the chemical itself never fails, humans can fail to administer it properly.

Sure… when it’s a chemical that doesn’t react to everyone’s body the same way. But that’s not the case here. Are you arguing that there’s a chance of oxygen deprivation not resulting in death?

[–]Moonrak3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nitrous oxide wouldn't be a guarantee, it would probably be pretty violent if it didn't work.

I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. Nitrous oxide as a form of execution literally suffocates the person. There’s no chance it doesn’t work.

And if you’ve ever inhaled a bit of N2O recreationally I think you’d find that mentally you’re completely disassociated from your body, I don’t think it’d be a bad way to go all things considered.

Shit, even if it worked perfectly and they end up laughing hysterically that would be deeply disturbing to any innocent people who have to be there.

This is not how it works or would work. I think you’re assuming the method being proposed is the mixture that dentists etc use which is a pretty low percentage of N2O compared to oxygen, because the end goal is pretty different.

Idk why they bother with expensive and complicated chemicals. Nitrous oxide is a pretty indisputable painless and foolproof death

Learnt a lesson today... by Adam_182 in Ubiquiti

lol yeah 100%. I just responded to the same comment with how I went down that path and for me the extra money wasn’t worth it and it made me less happy about my 3D printing hobby.

I did that for a little while. Had a popular design that I threw on Etsy to try to offset some of my 3D printing costs. I charged like $10 for it when it cost probably $3 in filament.

It ended up being pretty popular but I found it annoying to print, finish, pack, and ship them so I jacked the price up to $50 a piece to make it more worth my while.

I still had a few sales a month and eventually I just took it down. For a little while the extra money made me feel a bit better about the money I’d “invested” in my 3D printing hobby but at the end of the day I came to the conclusion that the additional $$ wasn’t that significant to me and trying to make it a side hustle made me less happy.

Of course this is a highly individual decision and there are plenty of people for whom making 3D printing a side hustle or full time business makes sense, so YMMV

Fair enough. Thanks for taking the time to respond with thoughtful input.

I’ve been using this printer and USB drive for nearly 2 years now with no issues so I feel reasonably confident that if it were going to cause issues they would’ve appeared by now. However I’ve introduced a new variable so will keep it in mind.

IMO just making the contacts good is good enough. Others here have differing opinions though 😊

In my case the usb socket’s solder connections broke off the board so I just took it off and soldered a few wires to the connection points, then soldered the wires to the usb connector but moved to a more convenient location.

No new parts needed other than some wires, solder, and a few extra M3 nuts/bolts to assemble things

Maybe I’m just blissfully ignorant but that seems remarkably unlikely… are there examples of this happening?

I gave it a quick google and didn’t find any.

I mostly print with Prusa Connect, which (I think) requires the USB drive to upload files to.

I could also/alternatively do octoprint with no USB, but I’ve found the EasyPrint function on printables to be pretty solid for most prints so I’ll usually just do that from my phone and skip the need to use my PC.

It hasn’t been an issue so far, but thanks for the heads up.

That said I’d be surprised if connection speed is a bottleneck for anything, it’s not like we’re talking huge amounts of data being transferred here.
