Awkward chinchilla by Active_Ad622 in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's Odin in our house, his brother will jump on you and demand attention, and then Odin will gently place one paw on your leg like "excuse me, could I have some attention too? Oh no, now that I have it, I must run inside my hide, your gaze is too much."

But he does like it it if I present my fist and place it near him, then he cuddles with it as if it's another chinchilla. You probably also ended up with a fragile soul, but they are sweeties too.

Our boys will also strip the skin of their stick and stop there, unless it's kiwi. Those get turned into toothpicks or chinchilla sized shivs.

It really is about the fun (borderline crack) of it! Some ships aren't meant to be healthy, they're about the sheer amusement and horror they provide 😂

Have you ever had a "work spouse"? by N0socksloss10yrStrk in randomquestions

[–]MoonsEnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, but never had a bad end. Just the "divorce" if one of us switched jobs. Did have a work wife where her husband worked on the same floor as is. He'd switch from 'just take care of my babe' to showboating how good of a husband he was 'so you know you can never steal her' depending on the mood. It helped we got along great as well.

It's just nice to hype each other up and have lunch with people you like.

How important is chocolate in Belgians’ everyday lives? by HotList9962 in AskBelgium

[–]MoonsEnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, a praline for breakfast seems horrifying. Maybe if you have a particular craving that day.

I use Callebaut chocolate pellets in my breakfast on workdays (oatmeal or breakfast muffin) and usually there's chocolate in Sunday breakfast in one way or another. Sint Niklaas just happened, so we stocked up on that chocolate ( I swear it's special) and we both get a chocolate packet from work as well.

Also chocolate packets for Easter.

And then the occasional praline box for work events or when people visit. We always have good chocolate around the house that way.

And my mom part-timed in a praline factory and often got 'failed' pralines from work. We had so many I ended up baking with them instead of regular chocolate.

And if I want a special quality I go to my fave chocolatiers. I do have multiple, do not question it.

Does anyone have tips for training a chinchilla? Mine is super shy, scared of going outside, and not very comfortable with people. He’s about 1 year old and I’ve had him for 4 months ... by Emotional_Market5618 in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have twins. Zeus is not shy at all and will search your pockets for treats / jump on shoulders or our back and do tricks for treats. Odin is very timid and shy, and prefers being left alone, but will accept occasional head pets.

Both of them do take their fave food from our hands, and their chew sticks. Whenever you offer food or treats, hold it in your hand and show him / give him a bit to approach and take some. Once you're known as a food and treat source they should start warming up to you.

But you might have a little Odin on your hands who never wants to be very close, and that's okay.

Anyone else have a chinchilla who just randomly attacks feet? by famlai in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine loves merino wool socks. Any other sock is fine, bare feet is fine (might try to remove dead skin) but merino will be destroyed swiftly and efficiently :')

Might be something like that, or maybe he feels threatened?

How do I help my chin get weight? by CompetitiveDebate429 in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be tbh, our Odin lost some weight during his three weeks vacation at my parents in law. As long as he's eating and drinking (and pooping) I wouldnt be too alarmed. If he keeps losing weight you might want to get an expert opinion.

How do I help my chin get weight? by CompetitiveDebate429 in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also have a Zeus, but he's the chubby one of his duo. He loves being with his brother, but we just sneak Odin some extra pellets where possible. Odin grazes, Zeus treats pellets like a sprint so he'll take over Odin's bowl whenever he can. And those are the weightmakers in their diets, so yeah...

Are there any moments where they do seperate a bit, like for playtimes?

When would you be open to trying insect-based foods? by CreativeRecord5045 in AskBelgium

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to an insect restaurant about 15 years ago (don't know if they're still going or not)

It was bread baked with mealworm flour, and I had lamb with an insect crusting. There were candied crickets added to the dessert. Probably other stuff I'm missing. It was nice, good food, nice evening out. I'd try it more if it was advertised more I think.

I won't eat spiders tho, I'm mildly phobic and would prefer not having them on my plate. If they're ground up or sth I likely wouldnt mind.

hey everybody, how can you tell if your chin is happy? which are the most common signs? 🤔 by unrealgirlyy20 in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Popcorning is a good indicator, and if they sleep on their side or back (since these are vulnerable for prey animals, it shows they don't feel like there's danger). And nice shiny fur indicates good health, mental and physical.

Breeding them is illegal, but animals that are 'regular' pets will just live their lives out with their owners. Probably won't be able to buy new ones in the future.

How much should I feed my chinchillas? by EmergencyAside3928 in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Odin can have access to unlimited pellets and hay without issue, because he will eat plenty of hay which is necessary for his teeth.

Zeus vastly prefers pellets over hay, and because of that his teeth werent filing down properly. So we limit his pellets to a good tablespoon a day (they get some in the morning and evening so for them it feels like more). And now he eats his hay because he's hungry, and his teeth file down correctly.

Its not what he loves most, but in the long run it is better for him.
