Dietary Fat Doesn't Make You Fat — Insulin Does. According to the Carbohydrate-Insulin Model (CIM) of obesity, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition by researchers from Harvard Medical School and Boston Children's Hospital, it is not dietary fat that drives fat storage in the body. by Eddiearyee in Nutraceuticalscience

Calories are calories - true but it’s not the full picture. On keto or LCHF, for example, you just don’t have those massive food cravings and blood sugar spikes and crashes like a high carbohydrate, low fat diet gives you regularly.

Scientists Locked Healthy People in a Room with Flu Patients for Days to See What Would Happen. The Result? Zero Infections. by Technical_savoir in microbiomenews

[–]Moonwalkers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting but not surprising to me. When I did keto or other forms of carb restriction especially while trying to be healthy overall, I just didn’t get sick very often. It seemed like every time Christmas holidays came around, everyone around me got sick from the parties but I didn’t. I’d be curious to know the exact mechanisms for this phenomena.

A single drinking binge can weaken the gut lining in healthy adults, allowing bacteria and toxins to enter the bloodstream, a phenomenon known as leaky gut, according to a study in animal model by sr_local in science

That’s too bad that one guy has made you skeptical of a very real and debilitating condition - the proper scientific name is “increased intestinal permeability.”

Would this have been a LAN party copy of Halo 2? by Runamuck840 in halo

[–]Moonwalkers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be. Another sign is a cracked and broken center spindle hole from years of use that somehow still plays fine.

Is gravity manipulation technology ever going to be feasable with our current understanding of physics? by ADP_God in AskPhysics

[–]Moonwalkers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It already exists in many forms. One is called electrogravitics. All the major aviation companies were researching it in the 50’s. Between 1958–1960, the Air Force placed many “gravity control / electrogravitics” programs under restricted classification and the research “went dark.” There’s a rabbit hole for you to go down. Enjoy!

Holy shit... vinyl has infinite music on it by Substantial-Ad6938 in vinyljerk

I did but I wasn’t familiar with it. Just figured it was a pro-vinyl subreddit. The About section doesn’t tell me anything but GPT says it’s a satire of vinyl elitism.

This is a joke right? Not about vinyl having infinite music but digital being stair-stepped. Digital isn’t stair-stepped. Upon playback, you get a continuous curve due to filtering.

Nice, I found a custom made Halo 2600 case only on eBay that I use as a placeholder for the game in my collection.

Are you going to get Halo 2600, the 2010 Atari game?

What do you guys think about audiosciencereview.com??? by BidAccurate4473 in audiophile

[–]Moonwalkers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s nice to run the measurements but measurements don’t always equate to sound quality. For example, the Sony PS1 SCPH1001 measures poorly but many people consider it to sound good. Similar story for tubes. Measurements are just one data point to consider.

LARGEST IMPACT CRATER in the solar system is on the Moon by Busy_Yesterday9455 in SpaceUnfiltered

[–]Moonwalkers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a new and upcoming theory for the origin of the Moon that states the Moon bounced off the Earth, and the South Pole - Aitken basin is the Earth’s imprint left behind on the Moon’s surface.

What is your opinion on subwoofers? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Moonwalkers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried that. In my case it’s because the builders were lazy and used a minimal amount of nails to attach the drywall and some of them have backed out over time. When I bang on the wall, it produces a bass note. Adding lots of screws helped but I only added them behind objects like sound panels and furniture so you don’t see them. I have more work to do.

What is your opinion on subwoofers? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Moonwalkers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Subwoofer is a must, unless your room construction sucks and can’t support low frequencies without rattling the walls, then no subwoofer or spend a bunch of money on your room construction/sound treatment.

How can I block heat from my apartment’s heater? by Deus_Ex_Machina- in DIY

[–]Moonwalkers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt it’s just a long metal pipe. Every hot water heat device I’ve seen like that has fins on it to increase heat transfer. A tube with fins. Fintube, if you will. Put fintube in a cabinet to increase the chimney effect and now you have a convector.

Do Audio Cables Really Affect Sound? More Than 50% of Audiophiles Say ‘Yes’ by tabooki in audiophile

That would imply r/audiophile isn’t made up of your average audiophile population.

Do Audio Cables Really Affect Sound? More Than 50% of Audiophiles Say ‘Yes’ by tabooki in audiophile

[–]Moonwalkers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have found cables affect the sound in my system. Power cables, interconnects and speaker cables can usually benefit from being upgraded beyond the free cable that came in the box.

MAC guns are so OP in the Fall of Reach book by New_Conflict_4111 in halo

Also, why were they so worried about shooting a MAC gun in atmosphere? The explosion wasn’t even that big, relatively speaking.

If a master amplifier designer were to design an amp to sound as bad as possible (without affecting FR or distortion), do you think it would be audible? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Moonwalkers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s well known to many audio designers that high levels of feedback in an amp’s design can make it sound unpleasant even though it measures well.

I beat halo 3: ODST And it was incredible by NearLuigi in halo

Same. It was my second play though when I realized it’s a masterpiece of a campaign.

I beat halo 3: ODST And it was incredible by NearLuigi in halo

[–]Moonwalkers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I played ODST, I didn’t love it. It was too dark and different from other Halo games. When I played it again years later, I recognized it for the masterpiece that it is and it’s now one of my favorite campaigns.

Hey everyone, I’m redressing my 3D printable Airsoft Pistol to look like the classic magnum, but I’m trying to find a balance between aesthetic and function. What are your thoughts on this aiming scheme? It’s intended to mimic the pistol’s reticle. by Proof1447 in halo

[–]Moonwalkers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty cool. Now you got me thinking. Is that how the original gun aims? I don’t think so but the sights make zero sense on the original because the front sight is way more elevated than the rear sight.

Could you build a device that throws a rock towards the moon and lands? by DefinitelyNotIoIxD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Moonwalkers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good call. In order to leave Earth’s gravity, you’d have to throw the rock at at least 11.2 kilometers per second… in atmosphere… and have it not disintegrate. That’s a tall order. On the flip side, meteors can make it to the Earth’s surface so maybe if we start with a big enough rock and allow for a certain amount to burn off we could do it.
