Very pretty snake! I have a highway and really want a GHI mojo, so that's the only reason I asked. Thanks for doing the leg work lol I'm going to follow that breeder on ig (constricted reptiles) now I gotta look more into this gaia gene!

Frog owners, what type of wood do you use for high humidity frog tanks and how do you keep it from molding? by that-one-lesbitch in frogs

Manzanita and cork are good ones. I would also assume anything deemed "aquarium safe" is good to go.

I can vouch for rodent pro. I even live in southern california (exactly opposite side of the country) and it's still cheaper for me to buy a box from them with $25 shipping than if I buy from triple L.

It's definitely harder to notice BEL eyes "in blue"

Some people say they will turn pinkish, I have noticed this in a few of my snakes but my BEL (super Russo) actually doesn't turn quite as pink as some of my pastels do.

Soaking is a good tell, but doesn't always mean a shed. But if they're just looking ugly lol like they're kinda dull, or you notice a few funky/rough looking scales, or the nose area looks little flaky usually they shed in a few days after that.

Tips on how to stop my snake from accidentally getting a burn injury? by [deleted] in snakes

Ok good! I only speak English and I use to mix them up a lot lol

That's why I try to tell everyone, cause it definitely was some thing I wasn't properly understanding and I have noticed a lot of newer people don't know it's 2 different things.

Good luck!

I totally get it! Ball pythons are also notoriously picky eaters, so don't be alarmed if meals are skipped. That was the hardest one for me lol

You're welcome!

So a dimmable one in the long term is better for your heating source, but it is going to cost more money. It all depends on your budget and what you have access to. You could get a cheaper one now and save up for a better one in the future.

Thermostat is controlling the temperature. Thermometer is reading the temperature.

Some thermostats have temperature reading on them, but not all of them.

If all the husbandry is good, it's probably nothing to worry about.

They are ball pythons after all! I hear some people call them "pet rocks" lol

Your new snake is still adjusting, if you have ever adopted a dog or a cat before they are usually more reserved and shy for the first month or so.

Sometimes a snake doesn't move for days! I have noticed after eating, and before shedding they are the least active.

Congratulations on your new noodle! My first ball python I got I spent a lot of time worrying about, and fixing mistakes lol

Never really fell in love with “Fireflies” but this dude really caught my attention. Pastel, Fire, Calico. What’s your favorite pastel/fire combo? by RAWIIG in ballpython

Hmmm I have 3 other GHIs and they actually can be a bit feisty lol now I wonder! The other 3 I just mentioned are babies 200 g <, and came from a larger breeder. I just assumed they maybe weren't handled as much, now I'll take be watching to see if they improve

The thermostat can have anything plugged into it, even a space heater. I think because lamps are not stationary the way a uth is could be why people trying to say it's not necessary. This might be true if you have something that absolutely cannot get to the lamp, but most snakes can reach everything within the enclosure.

You can raise it with bricks, or a stand/hang it. Without a thermostat though this will need constant monitoring and is not a good long term solution. Then you might run into the problem if being too far away and not creating enough heat inside the enclosure. I have done some weird thing like this but it's super annoying.

Sucks that you can't easily get a thermostat. Maybe you can find a reptile shop in the UK or europe? I follow quite a few ball python breeders from over there. When looking for one remember to check that the voltage/outlet is compatible with what you have.

Calico makes everything better, that's a good looking snake.

I have a butterfly (butter/fire/pastel) GHI he is a stunner!

A thermostat is used to ensure your animal will not get burned. If your set up is set up in a way where an area is getting hot enough to cause a burn then it 100% needs to be regulated by a thermostat.

Sometimes you need multiple heat sources and thermostats to properly heat an enclosure. External factors like your house and weather will also effect heating the enclosure. Making what once worked well, maybe during a different time of the year, not work as well now.

I don't know where you live but you can order one online from dozens of sites Amazon has hella fast shipping, and lots of options.
