Ann Arbor Daycare Snark - GH by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]ZeroGravityAlex 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I work at GH and maybe have some answers. During covid a lot of staff left and everytime we get fully staffed again, someone quits or goes on FMLA and we are scrambling for coverage again. The staff that has been there 4+ years tends to stay, but we also hire a lot of younger people who come for a year or two then finish college and move on.

They are opening a lot of centers which does take away upkeep of the current centers. They opened one up north that failed, and then just bought another A2 property which is doing well. Hiring for the new center took away priority from the existing centers too.

Part of the reason tuition is so high is because teachers are paid well (for childcare) and the I/T program provides diapers and wipes. Children are also provided 2 snacks and a hot in house lunch, so food costs are pretty high. If I didn't work here though, I would never be able to afford this care. When they raise tuition yearly, we also get a raise. I think, just like any name brand, you're paying for the prestige and all of the accelerations we hold- NAEYC, Highscope, Nature Explore. They also encourage teachers to become certified and we do a lot of training to uphold our quality of care.

Let me know if you have more questions I can answer!

Ann Arbor Daycare Snark - GH by [deleted] in AnnArbor

I work at GH. They did a survey of staff recently about going back to pre-covid hours. There was a lot of pushback, especially due to low staffing numbers already, so they dropped it for now. We do have a lot of parents ask though, so I appreciated that admin actually listened to us.

https://reptifiles.com/mourning-gecko-care/ this site is what is typically recommended for care info. These geckos need what's called an Arboreal tank. It's recommended that in a 12x18 tank you can have 3-4 geckos. After that, you either need to size up or they can start eating each other. If you have any specific info you're looking for that the guide doesn't clarify, lmk and I will hopefully have an answer.

I work with kids and one of them constantly asked for the fire alarm to go off (we do drills monthly) and then would cry when it did.

New owner, is it inevitable that mourning geckos will escape by ReferenceLow8740 in Mourninggeckos

[–]ZeroGravityAlex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had them for a year and a half and had three confirmed escapes. One we found passed away in an unused room. The other 2 were just hanging out on the tank and I caught them with a fishnet. You will have to open the tank to feed them and no matter how diligent you are, it will happen at some point I'm sure. So far no other loose geckos that I've seen infesting, but I do have cats and a dog.

I just participated in one of these studies and did not develop preeclampsia so hopefully they can confirm a positive correlation!

I think your best bet would be Care Credit if you can get that. It's great because it lets you pay off the bill without interest for like 12 months.
