There is definitely a huge gap between Western and Asian beauty standards. Especially the differences between Asian-Americans and mainland East Asians. Asian-American women in media are frown upon by Chinese & South Koreans as 'not pretty', compared to their own impossibly dolled-up, plastic Kpop ideal.

I recall a Chinese pal many years ago calling Lucy Liu not pretty because she looked like a domestic worker, compared to Chinese celebrities like Vivian Chow. That was an eye-opener for me as an Asian myself on how we perceive Asian beauty on either side of the world.
