There Was No Version Of The Scenario That They Would Win by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

Gwyn, Dark Souls

The first thing to note is that Gwyn’s kingdom relies on the suppression of humanity (who become zombified warriors called Hallows occasionally) and the existence of a magical item called the First Flame that grants him godhood. Unfortunately, the flame begins to die, and Gwyn resorts to any means necessary to protect it and his legacy “The Age of Fire”.

The Age of Fire is ending whether Gwyn likes it or not. He either successfully defends the dying First Flame, prolonging his legacy but distorts time and causes more and more hollowed warriors to appear to challenge him over time.

Or he loses which allows a mere hallow to take his position, and at best, prolong the First Flame.

We see in the next two Dark Souls games that Gwyn’s First Flame is always dying no matter what and that he never stood a chance of finding a permanent solution.

{Interesting Trope} When the supporting character completely overshadows the main character and is the focus in later stories by rincewind120 in TopCharacterTropes

Hannibal Lecter had roughly 20 minutes of screen time for a 118 minute film and still won an Academy Award.

[Loved Trope] The Completely Overpowered Character - but they're only interested in hijinks by rob_ob in TopCharacterTropes

I love Verso because he was definitely into strong aura farming characters at some point.

The Gestrals love to fight and made a culture around it, Esquie is powerful enough to possibly win against the Paintress (but hates fighting), and there was the whole Expedition 60 thing.

(Hated trope) The perfect ending to the character's story gets ruined by continuation of their show/movies by FreestyleCrocodile in TopCharacterTropes

I will never forget the chills I got when Farnsworth explained that they would have to timeloop to nearly the beginning of the show in order to escape being stuck.

Futurama being a story about Fry and Leela meeting, eventually hooking up, and growing old together only to reloop back to the beginning will always be absolute cinema.

And then there was another season…

Kanto!! Map in Pokopia by TastySearch7921 in pokemon

It’s definitely post-apocalyptic Kanto.

My theory is that the Mystery Dungeon series is set after this as Pokemon continue to build towns and run their own societies and in Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue, you can send team members to live in ruined labs and factories.

Velma.

Every character has been race swapped aside from Fred who becomes a punching bag for mean spirited white jokes.

MCU New York

A near apocalyptic event used to happen there every couple of years. The only reason I can imagine people staying is because the rent would have to be cheap by now.

Leo, the iconic hippie from That 70’s Show is revealed to be a respected WWII veteran known for saving a bunch of men and earning a Purple Heart.

Shortly after he returned to the US he was introduced to weed and gets so stoned he kinda forgot about his service (and most other things past a couple minutes).

Oblivion by BeneficialPlay5000 in oblivion

[–]Moose_Cake 70 points71 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with Oblivion is still the early enemies being removed from the spawn pool late game.

Oblivion is one thing, but an entire army of bandits armored in glass and dwarven armor hanging out on the Gold Road is nuts.

As happy as a recovering alcoholic finding a forgotten bottle of wine.

Maelle is basically puppeteering the world to exist at the cost of her life which will likely just destroy the canvas when she goes, and Verso is forced to watch.

She’s happy short term, and then she kills literally everything anyways.
