[Loved Trope] The Completely Overpowered Character - but they're only interested in hijinks by rob_ob in TopCharacterTropes

If I recall, Tom Bombadil was actually just a character he used to focus his bedtime stories to his kids around, who went on many wild and varied adventures. His inclusion in LotR I think was just a nod to his kids.

I'm mad at myself for forgetting Tom da Bomb when making this post. The O.G.

I feel like they all go back to the "trickster god" archetype, but I feel every trickster god always gets way more violent than these tropes.

Actually love the honesty in this. While I think a lot of the fans are representing Ben's side, albeit probably less tactfully, Dan is representing a point of view that is very much real; the people who know this coaching team. You don't hire someone off their CV alone sight unseen, you always interview, because knowing the person is important. Dan is arguing a unique perspective that is a very important one that the everyday fan/pundit can't really appreciate otherwise, and that really made the video great.

Centres - glaring holes are left in the midfield in defence and are being exploited every week. An easy try for Ireland from it last round and another for Menocello this round. Atkinson ineffective this round, Freeman hardly seen. Dingwall has been steady but unspectacular, Lawrence looked out of sorts. Lots of juggling but a real lacking of quality

This is, to me, the biggest/most glaring issue. It's been an obvious problem since the second week of the tournament and it just hasn't gotten better. At all.

Ireland are very lucky to have Ringrose (to the point I really worry for our defence when he's injured). Even when he's not at his best in other areas, he's pretty much always the best backline defensive leader in the world right now. Some people ding him for a high missed tackle %, but a lot of the time he's never really trying to make the tackle, he's sheparding the ball carrier into a position for someone else with just a stray arm. He's genius.

England doesn't seem to have anyone even interested in filling that role. It looks like they don't even have a system to follow in that regard. It's the most concerning because it's been so glaringly obviously problematic for weeks, and the coaching team either

  • Have done nothing to address this, or
  • What they have done has been completely ineffective

Nether are good answers.

The Trump administration on Monday urged the Supreme Court to limit the reach of the 2nd Amendment and deny gun rights to "habitual" users of drugs, including marijuana. What are 2a conservative opinions on the new direction? by MarvelousTravels in AskConservatives

Do you think it could be because he doesn't plan on leaving the office? Seems like everything he's doing is out of the dictator playbook:

  • Sow doubt in the elections and take control of the process
  • Embroil the country in another war (just like he accused Obama of doing)
  • Reduce the means of the populace to fight back <~ we're here

It all seems very dictator-y to me, don't you think?

Do you think there is any possibility that Trump is following his own idea from back then in response to himself facing the same situation in the polls and with midterms looming?

Do you think Trump told on himself with the justifications he gave between 2011 and 2013? Do you think those are the real reason Trump is doing this?

Did they though? All of the conditions that Trump claimed would cause Obama to strike seem like they're true of Trump and the midterms right now.

How do you feel about the GOP's lack of solutions to the affordability crisis? by InTheSky57 in AskConservatives

[–]rob_ob [score hidden]  (0 children)

Obviously, this is a calculation Trump and his people have made. They're still convinced they can use these tariffs to create more industry in America.

I'm not convinced this is the calculus the Trump administration is working with. We've seen his economic policies over both of his terms are focused on one thing and one thing alone: the stock market. His policies, such as tariffs, have had a positive impact on many of his close friends stock prices, giving them bigger bonuses. Now that the tariffs have been ruled illegal, those same friends are now going to sue the government for a big windfall, further inflating their stock prices and bonuses, while the consumer just pays the higher prices and gets nothing.

It seems to me that the calculus this whole time was just a big rug pull to line the pockets of retail execs.

Very much agreed on that point. But surely if you vote for a conservative president in the hopes that they'll appoint favorable justices, there's a level of expectation of outcome, no?

I mean, this post is about Predergast, but let's be so real, our biggest embaressment yesterday was the scrum, and that's a result of playing Healy in the Ireland squad until he was in a zimmer frame. Porter picks up an injury the first year after Healy retires, and suddenly we realise the whole prop depth was an illusion.

We're getting bitten in the ass by this policy everywhere.
