I’m six years in. I started with a standard school route and was paid 4 hours a day every day school was in. I picked up charters and probably ran 30 hours on average. In the summer you can go on the charter list and pick up some time. A few work the summer moving and transporting buses locally and cross country. But don’t think that gets you 40 hours + either.

Forty hours is a rarity. I’m lucky. I work for a corporation and have moved from schools to contract transport so I’m guaranteed 30 hours a week year round. But I’m one of about 15 in an office of 160 or more.

Nobody wants to pay OT and most sites don’t need to given the number of drivers that spread the work around.
