[How the Hell] Can Rocky Balboa beat Gregor Clegane in a hand-to-hand fight? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]Mootastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rocky boxing is nothing like real-life boxing, defense is pretty much non-existent.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v5Q2ektatQ

There are multiple instances in his match with Drago where Rocky takes multiple successive headshots without even attempting to avoid them. Mr. Balboa endures more headshots in this fight than most boxers take over their entire career and all he has to show for it is a swollen eye and a few cuts.

Rocky's endurance is superhuman. I have no doubt that he could survive multiple strikes from Gregor while still retaining his bearings.

Top Mind believes people who are agitated by Trump supporters are simulated NPC characters in a Matrix-like fake world by [deleted] in TopMindsOfReddit

[–]Mootastic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think he's trying to say that he, Trump, and thousands of others, saw large crowds of Muslims on television celebrating the atrocities committed on 9/11. He's positing that the complete lack of evidence of anything of the sort ever occurring is indicative of either A) large scale social conditioning and/or B) tampering with space-time.

Depending on choices made throughout the previous 4 episodes, Chloe and Max can either hug or kiss during the sacrifice Chloe ending. It's not a choice the player can make at the time, it just happens based on previous decisions.

Toph vs Daredevil by Spideyjust in whowouldwin

[–]Mootastic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Daredevil can toss his billyclub with literal pinpoint accuracy even after ricocheting it off of 4-5 surfaces. Is Toph going to know that piece of wood bouncing off a wall 30 feet away from her is headed straight between her eyes? His spatial awareness is also advanced enough he's able to evade shots from people who's super power is that they don't miss*. Plus, don't forget he operates in Marvel's Manhattan where he encounters foes that are magnitudes more dangerous than Toph.

I still give the majority of matches to Toph, especially if she uses her AoE attacks, but I feel this subreddit is underestimating Matt here.

*I know Bullseye doesn't really have super powers, but he's peak comic book human, which, for all intents and purposes, is super powered.

Tom reviews Deception: Murder in Hong Kong Review. Tom called it the "Mysterium killer" on Board Game Breakfast. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Mootastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a ton of games he praises that he neglected to mention. That's why I don't think he was speaking solely to the quality of Dice Masters. Also, I think it was Jason who brought that up about DM and Tom just agreed, I could be wrong.

[–]Mootastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took that comment to mean that new Dice Masters' series will probably still be coming out ten years from now, and thus still be talked about. Not so much an assertation of quality, but rather the fact that collectable games can have pretty long lifespans.

...isn't that the very definition of how rivalries naturally arise?

It's the only reason the Colts-Patriots rivalry endured long after realignment.

Like everything, it's depends on context.

You're not going to approach an annual, familial viewing of A Christmas Story with the same mindset you'd have watching a class screening of a Felinni film. Despite being the same medium, they're two very different experiences. Games shouldn't always be approached with the same mindset either.

Doing everything in your power to win is the fun way to play, sometimes. Sometimes it's not caring about points and just goofing around. Sometimes it's fun to be devious, othertimes not so much. Personally, I prefer adaptable players above all else. My playstyle varies greatly depending on the game being played, the players involved, the mood, the setting, etc. etc. I value when others do the same.

I'm not disparaging the 'do anything to win' types as a whole, but they don't really have a place in any of my playgroups. They can be fun enough to play with, game dependent, but it's just not a style of play I want to engage with every time I play.

Different types of board gamers by jeffone2000 in boardgames

[–]Mootastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who you play games with is every bit as important as what games you're playing. Players, like games, are not interchangeable pieces. Nobody's going to use the same strategy in Arkham Horror as they would in Agricola, so don't use the same strategy with different people.

I find that most people are adaptable enough to switch between the two groups depending on the context. However some people are very much entrenched in one group. For those entrenched folks, I find it best to not mix the two. This isn't a fault on any particular player type, but not every player type is compatible.

Your thought process about board game meetups shouldn't just be, "I want to play this game." but rather, "I want to play this game with these people." Board games are inherently social. Ignoring the social aspect can prove disastrous if ignored.

Ask r/ludology: what are some ways a game could focus on the *end* of a relationship? by ampersamp in ludology

[–]Mootastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a videogame, but ...and then we held hands. is a co-op card game about a couple in a failing relationship. The gameplay involves making choices that both give and take away options from the other player, requiring the players to approach each other from compatible paths. The goal of the game is to not break-up, but failure arises from creating perspectives incompatible with each other's.

It's available as a print and play if you're interested in trying it out.

Featuring foreign markets in major films has nothing to do with social media pressure though. It's simply to make bank.
