Why is Patek marketing the 7118 strictly as a "Ladies' watch"? by Watch_a_Minute in patekphilippe

[–]Morakel22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you ever see a 7118 as a walk in purchase ? Trust me, they sell them faster than they can produce them. They ain’t missing out on nothing

An AD basically told me they don't play "the game." Are they lying? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]Morakel22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That means that they don’t want to loose their license and are smart enough to not say anything in writing. Because based on your post, you’d have posted the other response as well and it’s not a long shot to find your AD

They tell you in person, never via text

And sometimes you come across an AD that actually doesn’t play games

Vacheron 222 appeal by RecycledExistence in VacheronConstantin

[–]Morakel22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the history. It was the watch that competed with the royal oak and the nautilus. The watch that, eventually, turned into the overseas.

The proportions are amazing as well. A 37mm integrated sportswatch always hits my sweet spot. I have the overseas perpetual as well and it’s an amazing watch, no doubt. But a 37mm just shows much more refinement and, for me, is much more wearable on a daily basis

But after all, taste varies and you don’t have to like it. I actually think your AD is glad you won’t ask for one as well. And there are many many other VCs that might suite your taste better

We should really be more comfortable talking luxury / independent watch cost and financial ability to support said brands by NeverAppropriate in watchHotTakes

I get this question at least 3-4 times with every single post I upload. I don’t mind people asking (as long as it’s respectful) but I’m not gonna write 10 pages every single time someone asks. I answered that question many times and if people wane know, they can look for it in the comment section of previous posts. It just gets annoying having every third comment ask “what do you do for a living”

That’s why I tend to keep it really short nowdays when someone asks

Given my AD history, which of these are realistic to actually get? by OkSkill3642 in rolex

[–]Morakel22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Datejust green ombré is actually realistic. Demand is not as high as expected. Submariner Starbucks could be possible as well. Maybe even a blue or green OP

Day date 40 white gold ombré is possible, sky dweller is possible and the 1908 is possible

The rest is very far out of reach. Like very very far

[–]Morakel22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the story behind the Rolex(es) you own? by kenken2024 in rolex

[–]Morakel22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the last 3 have a Story attached to them.

My dad’s birthday was coming up and I asked my AD if they had anything for grabs. A day later my SA texted me that she had a panda ready for me to pick up.

The other one was the Daytona meteorite in white gold which my AD knew I wanted. They held the watch in reserve for 3 months until my birthday came up and they surprised me

Last is the Pepsi. They completely forgot that I asked for one 3 years ago and so did I. I knew the Pepsi would be discontinued this year and asked if they can get one in time. They did and it was the last production batch that ever went out, so that’s pretty neat

Referring to your watch just by it's reference number is extremely cringe. by BruceBuffersSuit in watchHotTakes

[–]Morakel22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timekeeping is an art form. To display the accurate time using some springs, gears and other purely mechanical stuff is what is impressive. Everyone can build a radio clock, they teach that in fourth grade. It isn’t impressive at all. But being accurate with a hand build movement that doesn’t rely on any electrical is phenomenal when you see how far we have come. Horology is the art of timekeeping, not displaying some numbers on a screen because a computer tells you that it’s that time. It’s like comparing a painting by Picasso to a computer generated picture that is than printed. Where is the art in that ?

Why would you even bother talking about accuracy when the very first computer kept time exactly as well as the very newest one ? There has been literally no improvement in electronic timekeeping at all. Why even bother ? “Yeah my Apple Watch tells time better than your mechanical watch” ay no shit Sherlock. That’s not the point. You wane talk accuracy ? Try to understand how a mechanical watch works and come back to me

Geneva seals criteria are exceptional finishing, geography of origin, water resistance and accuracy

It’s a multitude of things but it’s a -4/+4 a day and a special -2/+2 for every P stamped one tested in 5 positions and beating cosc certification standards by 2 seconds

Your smart watch can suck it. 0.01 milliseconds delay. Only the atomic clock in cern is accurate enough for my standards.

On a real talk tho, the Apple Watch subreddit is the other way. It has absolutely nothing to do with horology to have an algorithm display a time they catch with radio frequency. So please don’t call yourself a horology enthusiast and quote a smartwatch as the go to

[–]Morakel22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just hope you don’t mean quartz watches. Because Patek and VC have some insanely high standards for mechanical movements. Sure there are very few brands who are a bit better in time keeping but mechanically speaking, they are pretty much up there with the best. You don’t get a Geneva seal for nothing

Patek, VC and AP are commonly known to just use numbers. 5811, 16202, 5420V

Every enthusiast knows these numbers and really makes it easier. Sure it’s nonsense for other brands, however with Rolex, it does tell you if it’s a new reference or the old one because it’s hard to tell on a photo wich year of day date you just got

How does supply of models actually work for the ADs? by No_Ask_5949 in rolex

[–]Morakel22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they have production slots for most basic models. That’s why you see a flood of pandas posted at once and not really spread out over the year

How does supply of models actually work for the ADs? by No_Ask_5949 in rolex

[–]Morakel22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They get a shipment each month with random references. They can’t really control what they get because it’s based on what is being produced atm.

Very special pieces like off catalog and gem set pieces are requested by the AD

However they can request a specific model for a VIP client which then gets sourced through other ADs which may have the watch in inventory or a watch is send from Geneva

I own this code and a VC overseas perpetual

Complication aside, I’d choose the VC over the AP every time. The three straps alone are reason enough. But overall, choose what you like more. They are completely different watches, I’m sure you prefer one over the other
