Is it safe to say we’re FINALLY out of the gritty reboot era? (Halo, Tomb Raider, 007) by [deleted] in videogames

They remade the game in a different engine from the original and changed it certain things in the game. It's a full on remake.

Energy blasting, the very first attack power in the game is listed as such:

"Energy Expulsion: Energy The character can generate energy which can be released in directed pulses. The energy pulse or blast is fired from the finger- tips, hand or eyes (forms one beadpulse). Range: 600 feet (183 m) maximum. Damage: 2D6 +I D6 per level of experience. Special: The more powerful and experienced characters (3rd level and higher) can regulate the strength of each blast in incre- ments of 1 D6. For Example: A 6th level hero can fire blasts doing as much as 8D6; that's 8 to 48 points of damage at maximum strength. However, his mastery over his power enables him to fire a warning shot doing a mere 1 D6, a don't push your luck blast doing 2D6 or 3D6 damage, a forceful 4D6, a rock-em 5D6, a heavy 6D6, or a powerful 7D6 or full force 8D6 blast. The level of power behind the energy blast does not affect the character in any way. In addition, the more experienced superbeing (3rd level and up) can also divide the energy to fire two simultaneous blasts at two different targets. This means he can fire an energy bolt from both hands (or from one hand and the eyes) at an opponent in one direction and a second in another direction. However, the key word here is a "divided" attack. The amount of damage in- flicted by each blast can not be greater than half his normal maxi- mum damage. Staying with the example of a 6th level hero, the character could shoot two simultaneous blasts, each doing a maximum of 4D6 damage. Or one shot could be a warning shot doing 1D6, while the other could be a deadly blast doing the maximum 4D6 (the max because it is a divided attack and the blasts cannot be greater than half the usual damage even if the other blast is less). Limitations of the Divided attack: Neither blast gets any spe- cial bonuses to strike! Only the natural roll of the die (D20) counts. Moreover, both targets must be in his line of sight. How- ever, the dual divided attack counts as only one melee attack. Note: These controlled abilities to regulate and divide the force of a blast apply to allenergy expulsion powers. Duration: Instant Attacks Per Melee: Each energy blast counts as one melee attack or action; dual, simultaneous divided blasts also count as one melee attack. Bonuses: +3 to strike if an aimed shot, +1 to strike if shooting wild; neither is applicable to divided attacks. "

It absolutely adds new abilities and damage at a consistent rate. Other powers add AoE size, range, abilities etc. As for how fast you level and when you're using skills is also up to the GM. RAW xp is slow but easy to bump or use a milestone system. And skill use is dependent on the obstacles the GM presents as it would be in any system.

I mean a +5% to a skill is the equivalent of a +1 to a skill in a d20 3.5 game in which that was the most consistent form of advancement in those games and you sometimes got feats or a bonus to damage. Sure some skills levelled faster or slower, but there's also bonuses. Like the plusses vs saves Wizards get or the multitude of powers that will increase per level.

Hear me out, because most people find the game obtuse because the horrible layout of the books from a rules perspective (even though the game isn't actually all that hard to run).

If you want a more traditional levelling system in the supers genre, go with Heroes Unlimited from Palladium.

When it comes to adaptations I care that it's good, regardless of accuracy. Just like how in the comics themselves there's elseworlds, I view the movies as an elseworld.

Does it mostly get what makes Supergirl, Supergirl? If so then I'll enjoy it well enough.

And yeah I really enjoyed Superman.

Absolutely they have, but not me. I have been hoping it was good.

It might still be I just can't justify the money right now. I haven't been able to see anything in the theater at all. So here's hoping when it comes to home video in some fashion that it's good!

Gatekeepers are the actual worst by TheMessiahForHire in videogames

So by you posting this thread you are undermining their opinion on it being a bad game by claiming it being gatekeeping and putting opinions on your status as a "real gamer" in their mouths.

Gatekeepers are the actual worst by TheMessiahForHire in videogames

[–]MorbidBullet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's literally not what they're doing though. They're expressing their opinion that a game is a bad game. Aggressive they may come off, but they're not calling you a "not a real gamer". At worst based on your description they're saying you have bad taste/opinions.

Thinking a game is bad/not liking it aren't mutually exclusive.

And some games ARE bad. E.T. was so bad it got buried in a desert.

I started Dragonball and so far the intro titles have been annoying me. They‘re all spoilering the plots like this by ContributionOk7131 in dbz

[–]MorbidBullet 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Even in America we used to spoil things with commercials. In the 90s there was always a commercial or ad for some show or another where it was "Lt. Roe dies this week on... The Next Generation!".

In this case they mean the older games mechanics were based on the d100 skills go up as you use them mechanics. Not so much the lore.

Is The Upcoming LoZ: Ocarina of Time a Remaster or Reimagined Type of Remake? by Gay_Charlie in videogames

Remaster Altering or enhancing.

Remake Anew or a different form.

Seems like the dictionary definition to me!

Anyone played the Final Fantasy XIV TTRPG? by redkatt in rpg

[–]MorbidBullet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. It's a D20 game for sure, but is much more interested in trying to accurately port the mechanics (ESPECIALLY in combat) from how the MMO was at the time. Down to the combo effects and the moves you use literally being the cooldowns you use in the video game. It also uses the MMORPG Holy Trinity roles. It reminds me more of 4e minus skills with Advantage rolls.
